9 Unknown [2]

Lucy sat in the corner of her cell in a detention center. She was remembering what Detective Santillan exactly told her. She hugged her knees and shove her head against her arms to rest it.

"You were innocent yet, so you better help yourself and watch your mouth!"

Yeah. . I just have to watch everything! She thought bitterly.

The life that she painstakingly built was crumpled in just a day, She saw four women when she come in, and wonder herself how could they survive in this living hell? They were still innocent, anyway. But they were as hopeless as she is.

She did not bother to asked them, maybe one day they'll be transferred into a correctional facilities if proven guilty.

"I won't last long in here, someone will eventually come and finished off, what was left undone!" She thought.

Detective Santillan has a point, indeed. She would become a scapegoat on Cassandra Myer's murder, Devy's case just add up and makes everything even worst.

She remembered her father thought her as a child, by holding up one hand towards the sky it is possible to blot out the sun. That's what they were trying to do to her. They raised a hand and blotted out her life.

But she doesn't understand why something like this would happen to her, she was nobody. She live her life all by herself since her parents died in a car accident.

"Because I have nothing, I am the easy target. Someone will just step on you when you have no power!" she sobs.

Reality sucks but its true, when you have nothing you are doomed.

"Devy I'll find that bastard who killed you please guide me! I don't want to rot in here while someone else is living a happy life out there!"

Lucy recalled everything that she remembered before the incident.

She was about to go home right after the two detectives visits, when her phone rings.

"Hi Lucille, can you please pick me up in the airport?"

Lucy rolled her eyes when she heard her best friends voice in the line. Devy used to call her Lucille to teased her, it was actually her mother's name.

"Just grab a cab, Devy! I'm not in the mood today, something just came up."

"Oh! Then lets talk about it in your place. Let me sleep in your apartment tonight."

"Sounds like a good plan!" she smiled before ending up the call.

It was already dark when she drives on her way home, she frowned when she remembered the look of Mr. De Guzman's face, her boss, when he saw her.

He clearly had something to say but why did he hesitate?

"I got nothing to do with Cassy's case!" she thought, but its just strange that everyone is like accusing her.

She hardly hit the brake when she almost hit the black cat sitting in the middle of the highway. The tire made a high-pitched squealing noise, and she almost bumped her head in the stirring wheel because of the impact.

"Shit!"

When she open her window and stick her head out, there was nothing in there.

"What the heck was that?"

Lucy shook her head it was like a bad omen. She hurriedly drives as she felt unease along the way.

"Good evening Doc, Your friend just arrived and asked me the spare keys!"

She smiled at the old man, Mr. Martinez is the watchman in their building. He's always been friendly to everyone.

"Thank you sir!"

She smiled and bowed before leaving. When she steps inside the lift, a man in black just step out from the opposite lift. He slightly turned his head towards her before walking out.

"Probably a new tenant!" she shrugs.

"Lucy!" Devy walked fast to catch up with her. "I went down to buy some beer."

"Whoa!" she exclaimed when she saw the two plastic bag that Devy was carrying. "Are you throwing a party?"

"Yup!" she winked. "The two of us, been a long time since we got drunk. I missed the old days, I miss you!"

Devy said in a fluffy eyes.

"Gosh! You knew how terrible I am when I'm drunk!" Lucy laughed. "You never changed, You are still as childish as you are!"

They both laughed, She and Devy is a childhood friend. They grow up together like sister as Devy is the only girl in the family. When both of her parents died, Devy's parent foster her and give her new home and new family.

Lucy's life was a constant battle, she strives hard to achieve what she is now. Unlike Devy who were born with silvers spoon.

"Wait!" Devy suddenly stop when she noticed the door. "I remember locking it before leaving—"

"Never mind!" Lucy waived her hand. "It's not new to me, you always forget to lock the door. Besides, there's no valuable things in here."

"But I'm not joking, I really close this before leaving!" Devy took the key in her pocket. "Here's the key!"

"Oh! I'm just going to ask Mr. Martinez to view the CCTV, come'on we don't have a whole day in here."

They went inside, the first thing that Lucy noticed was the unfamiliar scent that welcome them.

"You change your perfume?"

Devy shook her head, She's always been sensitive with scent but clearly the one she smells is not belonged to any of them.

They both jump when someone rings the door bell.

"Are you expecting someone?" again Devy shook her head that makes her frown. "It's probably Fred!"

But she remembered Fred is still out of town. She open the door, it was a delivery boy carrying one large box of fried chicken.

"Room 113?"

The delivery boy asked.

"Yes?" she asked uncertainly. "Devy you ordered something?"

"Nope!" Devy shouted back. "I'm sorry, perhaps you got a wrong—"

"No—!" the delivery boy immediately cut her. "I'm certain, this is the exact room. Don't worry its already paid"

"But we did not—"

The delivery boy stuff everything in her hands and give her the receipt and leave without a word.
