1 Unluckiest Girl Alive?

What would you do if one day you suddenly wake up only to realize that everything you used to have was no longer yours? Money. Parents. Job. The life that should have belonged to you...? Would you curse out? Cry? Or do the unthinkable?

For reasons she had not yet digested, Cherry Morris found herself in this situation.

Her parents disappeared. Some said they were caught smuggling illegal goods at the border, so the government quietly erased them. Well, not really quietly, since somehow, words about it spread.

Now, from a normal big girl whose only worry was to do well in her newly found job, she suddenly turned into a hated and mocked orphaned daughter of two wanted criminals.

Her boyfriend broke up with her after finding a richer and more beautiful girl. Maybe that bastard had even rolled in the sheets with this new lover of his.

Her friends too left one by one. Who would have guessed every single one of them was the fair-weather type. Cherry did not really want to remember these good-for-nothing 'friends'.

Her boss fired her. It seemed the world had turned against her because someone put her in some sort of blacklist. Now no normal companies wanted her. Even small restaurants refused to hire her as their waitress or janitress! Crazy!

Just what the hell had gone wrong?

What else was left to her? Money?

But the banks froze her parents' account, and all she had on her was her own savings from working for three months. Sadly, it only amounted to a few thousand.

House? Thankfully. But all day long, there would be people camping outside to throw rocks, eggs, and everything rotten to the roofs, windows, and yards. Who would dare to live in a place like that? Putting the nasty smell and the deafening swear words and yells aside, what if one of the random rocks or sharp weapons thrown kills her?

Damn! Everything and everyone seemed hellbent on driving her crazy!

Thankfully, she was someone who could see the littlest thing positive in everything or else.

Imagine if this happened to someone else. They might have jumped off a tall building already!

So, yeah, thankfully, she was not like that.

Look, when all the frustrations became too much to bear, she only spent a few dollars so she could chug down three bottles of cheap alcoholic beverages.

Cherry definitely never thought of taking her own life. No matter how hopeless everything seemed to be, she loved her life too much to think of committing suicide.

That was the case, even after she found herself in a damnable and puzzling situation.

However, it was true that she tried to forget her sorrows through liquor.

It was in the middle of the night and on her way back, she immediately regretted drinking.

Cherry Morris gulped. The wind danced along with her long hair, sobering her up and making her smell her breath and clothes that reeked of alcohol.

"It's because of you!" Suddenly, she found herself being glared at murderously by a red-eyed drunk man,

The place was dark and deserted, and her vision was a bit blurry due to the alcohol. But under the dim light from the lamppost of this god-forsaken street, the huge knife the man held shone eerily, sending chills to her fast racing heart. The one holding the weapon was only three meters away from her.

'Freakin' muffin!'

'Of all people in the world, it's I who encountered this lunatic who seems to be dreaming of becoming a killer. Whyyy???'

It had only been a few seconds since she encountered the man. She hated herself for not going back to her apartment early and for not immediately seeing the ominous weapon the man had in his hands before their distance lessened.

She swallowed again. The clothes on her back turned damp and cold, and her hands and body were trembling.

"P-police! I must call the police!"

"No! Just run! Dammit!"

Between the two options, her body and instinct chose the latter! She ran! And she must run faster because the thin middle-aged drunkard chased after her!

"F*ck my life! Damn! Damn! Damn! Don't come after me!!!!!"

Since her life depended on it, she sprinted like there was no tomorrow. She put all the remaining strength into her legs. But to her woes, the man also did the same. He was inexplicably so determined to chop her body into pieces! Why was he targeting her? She questioned the heavens as she flees.

"You're not escaping from me!!!! B*tch! I'll kill you!" Malice could be heard from that raging voice.

Then the reason for the intense hate and killing intent escaped out of the man's mouth."After taking away my heart and my money, you want to elope with your new lover? No! I won't allow it!!! I won't forgive you! I'll kill you! I'll really kill you!!! Hyaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!"

Cherry wanted to cry. The crazy man mistook the innocent her for somebody else, and a green tea b*tch at that. What was with her life!?

And why were her legs shorter than the lunatic's legs? Why the heck did she also choose to drink her sorrows away in a convenience store far from her apartment?

Depression got her good this time!

"Don't run, you b*tch!!!" The man roared.

"Psycho! Who won't run away from you?!!!" She replied, of course, only in her mind.

Suddenly, fear gripped her heart.

Shocks! Why was the man now so near to her?

'Eh?'

Because she momentarily looked back to check how far she was from the man, she didn't see the stupid stone lying ahead. Well, actually, even if she didn't turn her head back, since this part of the street was still more or less five meters away from the lamppost, she wouldn't manage to see the unassuming thing blocking her way.

Naturally, she tripped.

She was falling, face first at that. And there seemed to be a dog poop on where her forehead would land! Son of a dinosaur!

But the worst thing was not having to fall on something so disgusting and smelly!

"Got ya! Hahahahhahahhahaha!"

"Give me back my money! Pay the interest with your life!"

'Oh, no!'

The drunkard caught up with her and without letting her say or explain a thing, he raised his knife and swung it down hard.

A scream came out of the girl's mouth and eventually, tears also ran down her eyes. It was so painful! She could feel the searing pain that assaulted her senses when the knife lodged in between her ribs.

It was so painful, but she doesn't want to die! And thus despite the pain, she still attempted to free herself from his clutches.

"Haaaahhhh!" Yet with her hair pulled up, she didn't manage to escape. The sounds of flesh being stabbed echoed again and blood squirted out. Again. And again.

At first, the man's laughter was accompanied by Cherry's cries and moans of pain until only the drunkard's voice filled up the desolate darkness.

"Dead already?"

A minute later, the assaults finally stopped. Cherry was still alive, but she could no longer open her eyes. The torturous laughter finally stopped traumatizing her but sounds barely registered in her ears.

The thoughts in her mind transitioned from 'Pain!', 'Bastard! You'll die soon too! You'll get your karma for this!' to 'Am... I dead already?'

Either the drunkard finally realized that she was not the person who he thought she was, or he had simply lost interest in her, so he ran away.

Cherry was left lying in her own puddle of blood. Her life was literally hanging by a thread or two. Even the smallest breeze would be able to kill her.

Up above, the thick blackish clouds drifted a bit to the left to make way for some rays of moonlight. Around this time, her phone suddenly rang.

However, she really had no more strength remaining in her. She was no movie female protagonist, hence she had no miracle sudden power outburst that would allow her to fetch it and check the reason for the buzzing. The vibrating phone in her pocket was left on its own. She hardly cared about anything else in the world.

She suddenly realized that she was very tired. The world and everything that happened to her these past two months had made exhausted her so much. She just wanted to rest... She badly wanted to...

Despite knowing that if she falls asleep, there would be no waking up anymore later, the desire to rest was just hard to fight back against.

Because of this, after coughing and choking on her own blood, Cherry decided to heed her body's call, closing her eyes. Once done jokingly and self-mockingly whispering to herself a 'goodnight', she finally chose to get her so-yearned sleep. It was still the dead of the night and her phone was ringing.
