16 Confrontation

16: Confrontation

Lara blinked awake when she felt someone grab her wrist. "What..." Her eyes were disoriented, like waking up from a trance or something.

She searches for Noah and he was still on his back under her on the bed, his electric blue eyes staring back at her.

Lara shook her head, trying to jog her memory a bit. "Did I- Did I do something?"

Suddenly found her question amusing, he asked; "Something like what?"

Lara grimaced. "Uh. Something weird or indecent, maybe? I-I don't know, you tell me."

Noah chuckled.

"Oh, Lara..." His laughter died down slowly, lifting the back of his hand, grazing his fingertips on the side of her temples, slowly lowering them to her chin before tilting it up, making her eyes meet his own in an intense stare.

"Don't worry, little bunny." He said looking so handsome her breath hitched in her throat. "You did nothing of the sort."

Little bunny? Lara suddenly felt sore that she frowned. Did he just call her a little bunny?

Studying her face, Noah noticed she didn't like the endearment he gave her, and so he gave her another suggestion to choose from. "If you don't like it, I can call you buttercup instead?"

Lara sighed. She wanted to yell at him, saying that she was serious about her question. She honestly felt like she did something wrong, but from the looks of it, she did nothing wrong. Nothing that will make her lose her job.

Either way, Lara let the matter go. Instead, she asked him about his condition.

"Is the pain gone?" She asked. Looking down at the chiselled faced man beneath her, he didn't look like he was suffering any pains anymore. He looked relaxed. He even poked fun of her a while ago, which was (a bit) surprising on Lara's part since it was the first time she saw Noah being playful in front of her. She thought he was all brooding and passiveness only.

Noah quietly assessed himself, not letting her go of her waist. "The pain is still there but I'm feeling much better now thanks to you."

Noah controlled himself just in time before things escalated between them. A werewolf's natural mating scent could affect the hormonal levels of a person (which was) in short, works similar to an aphrodisiac. Lara was basically under the influence of drugs at that time.

"Great!" Lara said with a note of relief in her voice. "I should get off of you now…"

Without waiting for his permission, Lara climbed off the bed and stepped back. Noah let her go. The feeling of her softness still lingered in his hands and wanted to pull her inside his arms once again. But he stopped himself. For now, he has to be patient with her. Next time, she won't escape his arms anymore.

Unconsciously, Lara wiped her palms on her skirt. She felt uncomfortable since her palms were sweaty and her heart was hammering inside her chest. She willed it to calm down, using the breathing techniques she learned during her physical training.

Remember what you came here for, Lara...

"So, why are you here?" Noah sat up.

He was now back on business, so Lara immediately changed her posture and took in a deep breath to calm her nerves.

"I wanted to talk to you about something."

Noah regarded her for a second before standing up. "What is it?" He asked, his tone even as he glided past her, his movements slow and sure, appearing like a predator walking around his prey.

Lara gulped. "About what happened a while ago."

"Hmm." he droned.

The person she witnessed in that office was back. The one who offered to hire her as a secretary despite her shortcomings. The person who made her feel thrilled about simply being in his presence. Heat spread inside her core.

"I already told you, I'm fine. The pains are almost gone. You can rest easy, for now." He spoke in an even tone before taking a seat on the expensive black leather armchair across the room before crossing his powerful legs, his chin up, back resting comfortably on the chair, leaning away from her.

"That's not what I was talking about."

"Then what is it?"

"The event in the elevator."

Noah became quiet.

"That time when you kissed me." She whispered, closing in while studying his expression. "Why did you do it?"

A long deafening silenced stretched on between them. His face was impassive, devoid of emotion or any reaction from her.

Lara clenched her fist. She can hear her heart beating erratically inside her chest. "Please tell me the truth."

"The truth?" he asked.

"Yes," she whispered. "I only want to hear the truth, so please be honest with me."

Noah uncrossed his legs and stared at her.

She gulped. "Why- why did you kiss me?"

"You know why."

"What?" Lara unconsciously took a step back when he stood up and approached her.

"You know why I did it, Lara Louis."

"W-What are you-"

"The answer is already in your head, but you keep on denying it."

Her eyes flickered with panic when her back hit something cold and solid. Shit! She didn't realize he was cornering her to a wall.

"What I'm thinking might be wrong."

Noah caged her in with his arms, blocking her exits. "No, it's not. I've been for you to know who I am."

Her brows drew together in confusion. "No. No, it can't be, I'm a-" Lara caught herself before she reveals any more information about her identity in front of him. She won't blow her cover. She won't do it!

Noah smirked, "Why did you stop?" He asked. The corners of his mouth turn up into a grin, "You're a vampire..."

Lara's eyes widened in shock. W-What...

"Y-You knew…" She couldn't believe this!

"Princess Lara Louisa Dragomir, the half-breed princess." His eyes softened as his lips curved into a smile. He caressed her cheeks. "After much delay, you're finally facing me with your true self, mate."
