[Zero] Extinction.

The TV went static. The last remnants of human technology to work ever again. No more early morning cartoons to be played on it. No more news, movies, television, cooking shows, documentaries.. All of it a memory now.

The streets are loud, not with the bustling of the city life, but of roaring flames and screeching of eldritch horrors. Hoards of undead masses roam around, seeking its next meal.

The military is gone, the government collapsed, the entirety of human longevity gone. Extinction is certain.

99% of all humans are dead. Turned into food for the beasts, turned into another number for the undead hoards.. Or merged into the grafted mounds of diseased skin and bone. The consciousness of hundreds, if not thousands of humans merged into one, bent into submission by those that command it. Many survivors consider that the worst way to go, since you don't truly die.

Things once weren't this hell on earth, but I know you all know that. If it was, we'd have evolved to win, or to never have existed.

But.. Speaking truthfully, humanity believed we could win. When the demons appeared, so did mana, and powers.. magic, spells, summoning, everything you would expect in a fantasy game, appeared in real life. And we thought that, with these powers.. we could win.

But we didn't. It didn't take long at all for it to end up like this. For me to end up as I am now, just like every one else. Doomed to die.

I was one of the few to not unlock these powers. Only receiving the minimum, physical enhancements that come with mana-body unity.

But that's enough.. I'll tell you how it happened.

Day one of the outbreak.

The world went dark. It wasn't that the clouds covered the sun, or the street lights went out.. It was as if the sun just dissapeared. Then the ground shook, and the ground erupted. And billions of monsters spilled out.

We lost 60% of humanity that day. The 40% living thanks to being isolated, or awakening from the mana.

Day 2 of the outbreak.

The sun finally returned, but it seemed wrong. It was.. darker. It was evening even at its brightest. The awakened fought back. But against the billions of demons, it was overwhelming.

We lost 85% of humanity that day.

Day 3-5

Humanity tried its best, but it was a loosing battle.

All electronics stopped working on day 3. The government collapsed when the electronics did. 90% of humanity is dead.

On day 4, the people are too spread out, but they try to unite and set up strongholds. But the monsters are far too numerous, and it was far too late. 96% of humanity is dead.

On day 5..

There are 837 people left.

Day 6

259 left.

Day 7

13 left.

Day 8

One left. And that's me.

I tried.. so hard, to protect the ones I loved. My mother and father died day 4. Brother and sister day 6. And every one else who I had no choice but to rely on.. all died. And here I am, locked in a freezer. The air stale and dry. The hoards of both demons and undead ravaging around whatever is left of this building.

And I know I'm next. Knowing my death is minutes, if not seconds away from happening, I should feel distraught, but I feel nothing.

No, I think a better term is.. numb. After being so afraid for a week, I just can't feel any more.

I turn my head, hearing noise at the door, as I can feel and hear the frantic clawing and pounding at the freezer door. This is it. I'm going to die.

I sigh, pulling out my phone. Long dead and broken. I pull the case off; revealing a small picture of me and my family, All huddled around a bonfire. And I smile. Closing my eyes, I lean back, clutching the knife in my hand, I breath deeply, pointing it to my own neck.

I'd rather die by suicide than be eaten alive.

I open my eyes, and I stare wide eyed at what's in front of me.

>>Welcome, User. Please pick a username, or leave blank to default to "User"

I stare at the text. Residing on a semi-translucent box decorated with deep crimson red eyes and black rocks.

>No prompt entered, defaulting to "User"

>Welcome, User! To the Oblivion System.

>WARNING. You are currently in danger. Survival chances are.. 0% Would you like to revert time? You may only do this once.

My mind focuses on the text. Paying no mind to the increasing loudness of the monsters. I focus specifically on one sentiment..

'I can revert time? By how long..'

>User may revert time by 1 year. Oblivion system will stay with user upon reverting, as it is soul bound. Any and all events in the last month will be reset. User will retain memories through time reversion. Would you like to proceed?

I paused for a moment. Taking a deep breath.

'Yes.'

>Commencing..

>Error. Error. Error. Time reversion failure. Recalculating..

>Error. Error. Error. Time reversion failure. Recalculating..

>Danger imminent, activating fail-safe.

>Commencing reality swapping.

The door to the freezer screeched as it was ripped off its hinges. The metal thrown to the side as a beast stood there, exhausted from its endeavor. I stood, pointing my knife to it. But.. it all went black.

I was awake, but blind. I felt my body pulled apart. The feeling surprisingly ticklish. I felt myself gradually pulled somewhere. I lost all feeling. I felt no wind as I moved, then the feeling faded.

I couldn't feel anything. My consciousness drifted in and out. And eventually.. I seemed to melt away.
