3 Chapter 3: 2 years to Chronicle

My childhood was actually pleasant. Richard detmer, my father, was a totally different man from the one I saw in the movie. By a stroke of luck, my new name was Alex Detmer, no different from my last apart from the surname. I wasn't as bothered by the Detmer surname as I thought I'd be. The cosmic Alex had deleted most of my personal memories so I couldn't remember my original surname in the first place.

I was known as the quiet kid while Andrew was the complete opposite. We looked identical and the only way anyone could tell us apart was from observing our personalities.

I tried to hide my intelligence, as I was a mature guy in the body of a toddler, as much as I could. Part of it was to ensure Andrew didn't feel less or intimidated by me, and the other was because I didn't want the extra attention. However, I guess, I failed a little because my dad would always show me off as his little genius. God, i hated those friday night poker gatherings. He loved to show me off to his friends like a trophy prize.

It was no surprise, that Andrew was a momma's boy while I was my dad's favorite. Matt Garretty, my cousin however, was exactly the way I'd thought him to be. Even when we were little, he had that nice persona that made him very social. I didn't meet Steve until we started highschool, which was sort of disappointing. The other movie character I wanted to meet was Carrie.

The first time I saw her she was in middle school in Ewen, Maine. I'd flown there from Seattle while I was practicing my telekinesis. I was of course invisible, while observing her. She was wearing a baggy dress and kept her head down to avoid any attention. I didn't want to deviate from the plot of the story by making some butterfly effects so I held myself back from helping her when I saw how her mother treated her. Carrie was such a lonely girl and I wasn't surprised by the fact she snapped at the end and started killing people left and right. Even though, I couldn't directly help her, I still called the authorities on a possible child mistreatment case.

As for school-work, I was way ahead of what the course books taught in classes. Regardless of the fact that I could have easily skipped straight to college, i decided to stick around a bit more. Plus, I wanted to take care of the stupid duo, a name I gave to Matt and Andrew because they were 'diehard troublemakers' as mom called it.

As for my powers, apart from the divine telekinesis, I wasted some years without training on how to use them. I must say, I was deeply entranced about bench pressing a skyscraper using only my brain power. Damn, how disappointed I was when I realized that I was far from Tatsumaki's or Mob's level. I could only lift a 100 tonnes more or less within a range of 500m. So yeah, I could probably throw a blue whale around with some effort and fly at near mach 2. I didn't take the body training seriously, though. I had a plan set aside for that.

"KIKI, can you show me my status?"

(Of course Alex, displaying it now)

I did the telekinesis training alone in the woods, while also looking for the hole in the ground where Andrew and the others got their powers. Sad to say however, even with observation haki, I'd found nothing and it made me so frustrated. Most of my plans had suffered setbacks due to this. It was currently 2010, 2 years to the start of the main plot and I speculated that the hole would appear at any given time.

"Hey bro, you coming to Steve's party?", Andrew said barging into my room

I was seated in front of my laptop, looking for any cases of meteor falls near Seattle for the last 20 years, but coming up with nothing.

"I always tell you to knock before coming in. And no, I'm not going, though, I wonder if you're talking about the new kid."

" Yeah, that Steve. Guy was in the football team in his former school. He's supposed to be a hot-shot. Matt hit it off with him pretty well."

Steve Montgomery? Finally the trinity is complete. Steve, was actually my favourite character in the movie. Senior year he'd be the school council president. I wasn't surprised that Matt had made friends with him.

" Well, that's Matt for you. Anyway, I can't come because I'm finishing up on a project and can't afford a distraction now. Tell mom I won't be coming down for dinner on your way out."

" She won't like that but whatever, see you later, professor. " He told me as he closed the door behind him.

My speculation was that the hole with the ability inducing crystals was clocked by something that caused my observation haki to fail. I could buy another scanning ability from the system but most were locked because I didn't meet the prerequisite to use them. Just as I was thinking to myself, the room started shaking. I was caught off guard but managed to hold myself up with telekinesis. I quickly made my way down the stairs to the kitchen.

"Mom! Are you okay?" I shouted when I reached there.

I found her by the counter, her hands holding it at the edges.

"I'm fine Alex, we need to get out of the house now." She fearfully said.

I grabbed her hand and we unsteadily ran to the front door. I clutched the door handle and threw it open before we got out. We made it a distance away and looked back. The tremors were getting stronger and I was thankful that I managed to get my mother out before anything bad happened. I could survive even a nuclear blast but I knew that it wasn't the same for her. After a while the earthquake ceased and we got our bearings.

First thing we did was call my dad and Andrew. After finding out they were alright, I escorted my mom to the house and stayed with her for a few hours until my dad got back from work. When he did, I excused myself and went up to my room, locked the door, opened the window and flew out into the night. I used invisibility after equipping the fantastic four costume, which made me look like a younger version of johnny storm. I'd gotten used to flying by using my telekinesis and although the wind pressure was strong, I isolated myself in a forcefield.

After drifting in the air for a few seconds, I chose a direction and stormed off, leaving a sonic boom behind. 2 minutes later I arrived at my destination. The woods looked way menacing in the night than during the day and I could hear the nocturnal animals scurrying about. I started using my observation haki to scan the area for any anomalies caused by the earthquake. After a couple of hours with no results to show, I decided to head back home, but not after leaving something behind.

" Kiki, i need a thousand miniature scanning bots. Make them cover the area and if they find anything, be sure to alert me."

(Confirmed Alex. Deploying the bots now.)

With that done, I turned back and flew off.
