1 Chapter 1: The Void

The last thing I remember, is darkness. Up until then all I knew was darkness. I couldn't feel my body, just a heaviness that rooted me in place. Who I'm I? I remember asking myself. Where I'm I? All my questions went unanswered. The strangest thing, however, was the calmness I felt. No, not calmness, it was the emptiness. It felt like nothing could faze me.

" That happens when you stay in the void for trillions of years."

Infront of me a pair of bright blue eyes appeared. They looked at me inquisitively.

"Do you know why you're here?"

I started to shake my head, then remembered I had no body. So I tried to project my thoughts to the entity.

'No, what are you?'

" To answer your question, I'm you, or in simpler terms, I'm your void essence."

Mmh? I didn't understand what it meant by that, so i kept silent, to let it explain more.

" I can sense your confusion, we don't have much time, so I'll try to be brief. You see, all living beings possess a core attribute that determines their functionality. In other words, its the makeup of their soul. The core attributes are chaos and order. These attributes birth a being's record, which helps AKASHA, the record keeper, to keep balance in the material existence. Every and i mean every living being in existence exists within AKASHA'S jurisdiction. You however, are an anomaly. You don't possess a chaos or order core attribute, when you died, you slipped under AKASHA'S radar. You've been stuck in the void for a whole era. Due to your existence, your soul adapted to the void and I came to be. I'm your void essence, your core attribute. Any questions? "

Whoa, I think I was supposed to be shocked but the emptiness I felt, numbed any reaction I had. I took a few minutes to process what it had told me.

'who I'm I? Why can't I remember anything? And why do I feel so...empty?'

" I told you, your soul adapted to the void, the void in its nature is empty. As for your memories, I'm sorry but I don't think, you should have them back. You didn't exactly have a…good life. In fact after you died, you wished you could forget them. However, I'll compromise and give you only the information you'll need to survive what comes after."

A string of information about a planet called earth appeared in my consciousness. I started remembering about all the anime, light novels, movies and comics I'd watched and read. I remembered about going to Paris, to see the Eiffel tower and the cruise I'd gone on in the Indian ocean. Significant events of my life replayed themselves to me. All my life was presented in a rush of information both detailed as well as lacking. I even remembered my name, Alex. I however noted that apart from that, all other personal information was nonexistent.

"Now, Alex, I present to you a choice, do you want to live again or should we continue to exist in this state of limbo?"

I thought hard about it. Life, honestly didn't hold that much of an enticement to me. I had no regrets because, I wasn't allowed to feel anything. The only thing, I wanted was to feel the emotions expressed in my memories. Plus, this was like, one of those plots in the fanfics I used to read back in earth. Who didn't want a second chance?

'OK, but where I'm I going to live again?'

The entity looked a bit embarrassed at my question.

"Well…you see, you can't exactly go back to your old world. I mean you don't have a record so AKASHA wouldn't allow you to breach the barrier to the material world, you can only reincarnate into a fictional world."

'Huh? then how was i born in the first place?'

" Thats...not...i dont know."

I decided to ignore that and focus on the more important things.

' Wait, you mean, like movie, novel or anime worlds?'

"Yes. And I'll even give you a system! And 3 wishes!"

I looked at him incredulously.

' Hey, don't you seem a bit too OP in your claims? For someone who's supposedly me, it seems you have a lot of control in this situation.'

"That's because, we essentially hacked the void and everything comes from the void, soooo you could say I'm a bit overpowered indeed. Enough of that, as I told you, time is running out. If you keep staying here your soul will meld with the void and your individuality will cease to exist. So what are your wishes?"

' Gee, I don't know. Ummh can I get the copy or the devour ability?'

" yeaaah, but I'd advice you not to. You see the system will have everything you'll need for only a few points"

'OK, can you make me immortal?'

"Sorry but no. You can't wish to be immortal before you're even born, that would only chain you to one body for all eternity, plus your soul is already immortal, that's a big advantage."

' fine, then give me superior regeneration, better than even deadpool's.'

"Done. But I'll have to apply that ability directly to your soul, so that if you change bodies you'll still have it. You can even regenerate from a drop of blood. When your dimension gets high enough, then you'll be effectively immortal, because by then you'll be able to regenerate your body from a thought if its destroyed."

Whoa, that would be so broken.

'For my next wish, make it so I can travel between worlds.'

"Done. But you'll have to reach the apex of the chosen world before you travel."

'Damn, so that means if I choose to reincarnate into the marvel universe, I'll have to be more powerful than the OOA? that's too hard. Gimme a different condition.'

" No can do. There must be balance. Its the same way, I can't make you immortal from the start."

'Fine. Then reincarnate me into the chronicle movie first. I didn't like how it ended. Andrew deserved a better life. Make it so I'm reborn as his twin brother. Hey, cosmic Alex, I have a question…can you merge two or more worlds together?'

"Yeah, I can but that only applies to lower tier worlds. So don't expect to see a fight between goku and Superman."

' OK, then merge absolutely anything, chronicle, carrie and Lucy together.'

"Is that a wish?"

'No, just a pretty please.'

"OK, let's get started then…"

'Wait, what about you? What are you going to do?'

"I'll stabilize the tunnel to let you reincarnate. After that I'll fade into the void."

'Oh, will you be OK?'

The entity blinked it's eyes.

"Don't worry about me, I'm your core attribute. If you wanna see me again, conquer the void."

'Alright. About my last wish, can I save it?'

" Nope, after you're reincarnated, I'm going to go on an extended sleep until you become the master of the void, so use it now."

'Ok, then make everything in the system shop free'

"Done. But you'll have to meet the conditions to use some of the skills and items. Now you should get going. You'll be unconscious for a while until you're conceived. Goodbye Alex. I hope you find what you're looking for."

My awareness drifted off, waiting for the time I'd live again.
