Oathsworns and Other Terminologies

What is an Oathsworn?

Any human of Aldyrix who has taken a specific Oath that grants them enhanced abilities and powers are known as Oathsworn. Similar to Paladins in Fantasy Roleplaying Games. However, unlike Paladins these powers are not limited to armor, weapons, and divine magic. There are quite a few types of oaths, each granting a specific power at the expense of something else.

What is an Oath?

It is a vow that humans make to give them supernatural boosts to their talents and at higher-stages different abilities at the cost of something else.

However, the Oaths do not automatically make you a spellcaster or a weapon specialist. It only enhances your talent to do so however in-turn it will take a specific ability away.

For example, someone who swore the Oath of the Artillerion will find themselves unable to do even the most basic of footwork even if they were trained in footwork and swordsmanship. Yet even if they couldn't aim at all before, they would be able to shoot a bird flying a 100ft away with just a glance to take aim.

While someone who swore the Oath of the Guardian will be incapable of aiming even the most simplest of crossbows a 100 ft away even if they were a crack shot before. However, even if they were flat-footed before they're motions would be fluid like the wind when wielding a sword.

What is an Oathway?

Oathway is the path of an Oathsworn, to achieve higher stages of power. To ascend to a higher stage, one must meet certain conditions, including but not limited to mastering all the abilities granted by the current Oathway stage. Different Oaths have different conditions, but mastering of abilities is constant throughout all Oaths.

After all the conditions are met, they need to take the higher stage Oaths, this would grant them incredible powers.

At higher stages on the Oathway, it grants them magical abilities and in turn, it worsens the abilities it took away, sometimes taking away a new ability.

Can people take different Oaths?

Yes, a person can take as many Oaths they want. However, all Oathways start at One, and to take even the first Oath, some physical, mental and magical conditions have to be met, if not they will not be activated. Hence, at higher stages, some Oaths are just not viable to take due to lacking talent in certain abilities.

However, the greatest drawback of taking multiple Oaths is that for each new Oath taken the highest stage of all Oathways are subtracted by one and another great drawback is that to take a different Oath one has to complete all requirements needed to ascend up to the next Oathway of the current Oath they possess and once they change their Oath, this process has to be repeated just to ascend to the next Oathway of the previous Oathway they possessed. Effectively doubling the effort required to ascend to higher Oathways of both the Oaths.

Hence, most people take multiple Oaths only at lower stages, and only those oaths which are compatible together and even that is rare as the highest stage of each Oath gives a special TRUE form that can be accessed and transforms the Oathsworn into something akin of a demigod for a few moments.

So anyone taking different Oaths can NEVER access the true form. Thus, most Oathsworn don't take multiple Oaths.

What is an Oathblessed?

An Oathblessed or an Oathblood is something far different from an Oathsworn. They are the fortunate or the unfortunate souls, depending on how you see it, who were born with their Oaths. All Oathblessed come from a lineage of Oathsworns with one specific Oath. Yet they are very rare that even now many esteemed Houses and Clans that have been mastering their Oaths for generations are yet to have Oathblessed children, and those that have had one are still trying to come up with a new Oathblessed after generations.

For an Oathblessed cannot have children and an Oathblessed cannot change their Oaths. However, they receive overwhelming powers and unique abilities that seem to have the core abilities of an Oath as a base but are widely expanded upon.

The Champions, for example, the Oathblesssed version of the Guardians are able to control their weapons to such a degree, that a thrown sword, javelin or shield, would go far, hit their targets, and return back to them.
