1 Welcome to Oak's Will

Like a lot of his friends, Boeros didn't do much other than play PC games in his spare time. He thought himself to be pretty good but never really had the initiative to seriously try out competitive gaming. Just when he was about to graduate high school, the first-ever VRMMORPG game came out, Oak's Will. To play the game, he needed the associated VR Capsule, so, since he was a bit tight on money, he got one of the cheaper ones. This was still a 6000$ investment with the monthly subscription. Needless to say, Boeros had high hopes the first time he went in his capsule instead of going to bed. What was revolutionary about these capsules, and the main selling point, was that the game would replace sleep and still give the user's brain the proper rest.

<Welcome to Oak's Will>

<Please proceed with choosing a faction>

<Human : The classic experience, will spawn in a random village of the Urvic region>

<Elf : Mainly a magic-oriented species, will spawn in a random forest of the Lithelit region>

<Orc : An all-around battle-oriented species, will spawn in a random tribe of the Drakor region>

"How about I go for an elven mage ?" thought Boeros, he truly liked magic as a whole and a nice magic system is a good way to determine whether the game is a great RPG or not, and the magic system for the mages were often the most fleshed out. Plus, he could always change class later on if he really wanted.

<Elf race chosen, sent to Irka (Level 1-10, Starter-Forest)>

<Find an encampment. Good luck !>

Boeros appeared right in the middle of a forest, to his great surprise, there was nobody else with him. Accounting for the fact that the game had already reached a staggering 100 million players, that could be considered quite an achievement. The first thing he noticed was how truly realistic the game felt. He could feel the cold wind of the evening, every movement he made felt responsive and he could even hear birds singing. After walking around a bit to get a good feeling of what VR was like, a blueish notification popped right in front of him, it told him a few helpful pieces of information about the game, similar to a tutorial. After reading it, he thought about wanting to open his profile, as was indicated.

<Username : Fang>

<Level : 1>

<Status : Lost Elf>

<Stats : Agility(3), Strength(1), Endurance(2), Intelligence(4)>

<HP : 20>

"Aren't my stats a bit low ?", Boeros felt a bit dejected after seeing such poor stats but decided to open up his inventory.

<Void space : Small-1>

<Campfire, Elven bread, Water gourd>

"This game is truly stingy..."

After looking around a bit inside the various game menus, Fang decided to walk a bit around the area. Eventually, a blue marker appeared in front of him giving him the direction to a nearby encampment. The encampment was pretty shabby but there were other elves, some tents, and even a few carriages.

<Irka'r (Starter-Encampment, Level 1-3) : A small encampment made from refugees of the many elven skirmishes that started happening in the nearby regions>

Entering the place he saw quite a few NPC and even some other players. He then went to an NPC that had an exclamation mark, feeling that this is where the game wanted him to go.

"Howdy mister, looking to become an adventurer of these wild and monster-filled woods ?", said the big man.

"Uh, sure why not?" answered Boeros, a bit confused at the appearance of the man before him since he truly didn't look like an elf, or at least didn't have the charm and grace of one.

<You have accepted Sharlus' Request, choose a class to become an adventurer>

"So he was the class guy..." pondered Boeros, "Sure I'll take a look at the classes".

<Warrior : A close-range fighter that can shield or attack with vivacity>

<Magician : A polyvalent class which uses mana>

<Ranger : A mostly medium-long range class which attacks with agility and precision>

He felt a bit underwhelmed when he first saw that there were only three classes, but then quickly remembered that when a player hit a level milestone, his character could get a specialization, the first one being as early as level 10.

"I'll go with the magician." Fang happily gave his answer to the fat classmaster.

"A fine choice mister, I'm sure you'll turn out to be a great mage!" Sharlus happily responded.

<You have chosen the Magician classe>

<You have unlocked the magic endurance stat>

<You have been given the magician starter gear>

<Username : Fang>

<Level : 1>

<Status : Lost Elf>

<Stats : Agility (3), Strength (1), Endurance (2), Intelligence (4), Magic Endurance (2)>

<HP : 20>

[Old Magic Wand]

[Grey-Common]

[Attack Power : 1-2]

[Old Mage's Robe]

[Grey-Trash-Set]

"Do I really need to wear that, even the fashion sense of the robe is trash..." Boeros sighed, as he saw the dull-colored robe and some of the cuts on it.

"Now that you're all set, you can go to the north and you'll find some rabbit to kill" excited as ever, Sharlus told Fang where to go find his first hunt, "If you eliminate and bring back enough, you will even get yourself an adventurer rank"

<Sharlus' Quest>

<Kill 10 rabbits (0/10) and bring them to Ike, the encampment's senior adventurer>

<Reward : 1-star Adventurer's Plate>

"Rabbit, really ? At least there will be some fighting now", happy to finally get some action, Boeros went on his way out of the small encampment, to the north. While walking towards the specified location he noticed that there was starting to be more and more vegetation, indeed, where Fang had started, there were only very few trees and not really any plants. When he arrived at the destination, he finally understood why there was less vegetation before and why Sharlus was this excited about him simply killing rabbits...
