5 What am I good at?

Three days have already passed since Lance joined Moonlight. Momo and co. brought Lance back to their Moonlight town, where they had their Guild Residence, gifted by the Author System. The past three days have given Lance a great sense of happiness, as well as a dilemma.

Despite not having any occupation, he was still level 10, so he was able to reenter the city after he left the town.

He was able to walk freely around Night Fate City, no longer showing his slave status that guards can see. While he was a slave he was never able to enjoy all the stalls and liveliness in the city. He fully immersed himself in his freedom by going to all the tourist attractions. Only, his anger reached the peak whenever he saw public slave auctions.

'I will become strong enough to abolish slavery!' is what he thought, but he knew this thought was absurd. Slavery was common all throughout Author Online, although there were parts of the world that abolished slavery, their influence was minuscule.

The more pressing matter at hand is getting an occupation.

Momo, and the rest told him that it is okay to take his time to find the right occupation, but money did not grow on trees. The guild had to spend 5 bronze a day, and now they have already spent 15 bronze, all for him to laze around. Momo was the guild leader, and she ruled her guild with an iron fist. Yet there were other regular members who felt displeasure in carrying such a burden.

These past few days, he frequently saw his status, trying to come up with different ideas.

While his STR was decent, having 12 points, it was not as good as his AGI and INT stats. While he was sightseeing around the time, he went to various Official Halls to inquire about each jobs. Official Halls were designated building for a specific job tree, they can upgrade to a new class, or get quests related to their jobs there.

While there were numerous jobs, even unique ones, they all had their root as the four basic jobs. Which was why there were four Official Halls Lance remembered part of the information he jobs he was interested in.

Cleric: Blessed with the divine might of the Author System, they perform miracles related to healing and blessings.

Magician: Cursed with the divine might of the Author System, they can cast spells of different natures.

Warrior: For they were born blessed by the might of the Author System, they have great physical prowess, a very general all-purpose class.

These were just the three of the four basic jobs. The fourth one was called Scholar, they usually did administrative tasks and rarely engaged in fights. Their skill also revolved around education, such as speed reading, speedy memorization, Lance could not understand why these people would choose to study all their life.

His father was an elf, and elves always known for their marksmanship. He envisioned himself, gallantly holding a bow and shooting targets far away... SO COOL!

Then he thought about his high INT stat, which he wondered where he got this trait from. His mother was a lycanthrope, and they always loved physical brawls, so he understood his STR, and AGI from elves.

'Where did my INT come from?' Lance pondered as he sat by a fountain in the square. The square was adjacent to the Guards Tower, where Lance was imprisoned previously. The dungeon was built underground while the upper levels were used as a watch post.

He blankly looked at the entrance of the Guards Tower.

Then Lance gained an inspiration, as if an invisible light bulb turned on above his head.

'Why haven't I thought of dual-class!?' Lance reprimanded himself for forgetting about it.

Dual class is difficult to maintain, which is why it is not a common choice.

For every increase of 1 level, Author System will bestow 2 skill points.

To learn a different skill you need to complete the skill tree, higher skills require certain amount skill points dedicated towards that skill tree, which made it difficult to be powerful in both classes.

However to Lance, he never held the thought of becoming the most powerful- in anything. Although he did have the ambition to stop slavery, he knew it was nearly impossible, he only had one life, and he cherished it.

'I will become a warrior-magician!' Lance organized his thoughts while heading towards Official Hall of Magic. When a person receives a job, they are gifted 10 job specific skill points, which can only be used for that job. Lance decided that learning distant magic skill first would benefit him more.

As he walked into the Official Hall, he coincidentally met Shizuka, the magician.

"Hi Shizuka! It is good to see you!"

"...."

"Yes! I am here to get my first occupation!"

"..."

"Yes, my first! I plan to get warrior as my second occupation!"

"....."

"Thank you Shizuka! Good luck to you too" Lance smiled as Shizuka left the building.

Thanks to Shizuka he felt less nervous as he walked to the counter. There was a tall man wearing magician robes at the counter, he had a scar stretching from his forehead down to his right cheek. Additionally, he was bald, which gave the impression of a fierce bandit.

Lance involuntarily gulped at the sight.

"How can I help you?" The man smiled brightly, his gentle demeanor brought a sharp contrast to his wiggling snake like scar.

"I would like to apply to become a magician!"

"Hmm.. You are already 10 years old, but don't have a designated job yet?" The man asked curiously, usually the children's parents would check their child's status at age of 7, before sending them off to receive the job that best suited them.

"Yes... I was a bit delayed" Lance lowered his head, thoughts of his parents popped up in his mind involuntarily.

"Well, that is alright, you just have to pay 1 silver as apprenticeship fee."

"1 silver!!?" Lance felt his soul leaving him. That was 1 silver they were talking about, 1 SILVER. Equivalent to 1000 bronze.

"Why would it be so expensive? Isn't it supposed to be 7 bronze for assessment and another 7 bronze for apprenticeship?" Lance asked, he had done his homework and knew the original price. He felt like he was being scammed, at an Official Hall no less.

"Haha you are right, but that only applies to 7 year olds. Young children are very sensitive and the assessment apparatus can easily measure their potential in becoming a magician, and formal magicians would gladly take them, but you are already 10 years old. Pretty old to look for an assessment, and magicians prefer young children." The scarred uncle was polite from the beginning to the end, very professional.

'Those darn pedos!' Lance screamed in his mind. Becoming someone's apprentice means that they will receive pointers and lessons from the person who accepted them. Without a master it becomes incredibly difficult to master even a single spell.

"Are there no other options?" Lance asked as his dream started to shatter apart into oblivion.

"Well.... There is a method"

"Really!?" Lance then imagined those legendary 'second option challenges' that he heard about from his parents.

"Yes, but it doesn't apply to you, sorry about that" The scarred uncle smiled, and waved him goodbye, before he started talking to the next customer.

"...."

'what....?' Lance just stood there, like a stone.

"Oh by the way, other Official Halls will say the same thing, so don't go bothering other people" The scarred magician uncle gently reminded Lance.
