1 What Pain

Who would've ever thought that humans and humans could live together? Well, I sure didn't, and the rest of the Inhumans thought the same. The Human and Inhuman governments had made a peace treaty a few years ago, but none of us humans thought we would be living with them. The two governments came out with the announcement when school ended saying that some of us "luck" Inhumans would be sent to a boarding school where we will go to school alongside humans. It was their way of easing us together. People would receive letters meaning they were "lucky" enough to be sent to the school. It was like being drafted for war. No one wanted that.

My friends and I joked that none of us would get picked since we were all on our school's football team. Boy were we wrong. A month before school was to start and on that dreaded day in my mailbox was the dreaded letter. I did everything I could to try and get out of it but to no avail. I was sent off to this new school.

The letter that had sealed my fate came with me as my "ticket" why anyone would want to willingly go I don't know. The letter had my name on it, why I was inhuman, a description of me plus a picture, and on the back, it had who my human roommate was going to be. His name was Addison. He was 5 foot even. Blond hair green eyes. There was other stuff about him, but I got bored and fell asleep after the description. Why they thought pairing this 5-foot twig with me a six-foot-eight football player was a fantastic idea I couldn't tell ya.

I was woken when we had finally reached the school. It looked like a castle. Tall spires that reached into the sky were scattered throughout and they were all varying sizes. I recognized a few girls from my school which wasn't too awful. My parents and I said our goodbyes and they were gone. I gazed around and it seemed that the humans were already settled in and waiting for us. I spotted a short blond boy holding a sign that had my name on it in huge letters, VICTOR. I strolled over to him and he beamed up at me. "You're a lot taller in person… and a lot more… uh… decorated…" His eyes moved around me looking at my various piercings and tattoos. I couldn't feel pain so I could pretty much do whatever to my body. "You look a lot different…" He seemed almost in shock. I told him about my inhuman ability and that he probably saw my school photo which I had to take my piercings out for cause they shot the flashback to the camera. He seemed to be fascinated and I just rolled my eyes. He suddenly became flustered and talked really fast about how I probably wanted to see the school and my room and get settled, and then I lost interest and crept away. I had made it pretty far before Addison came trotting up behind me and followed me up to our room. His side was already decorated with posters and other stuff. He tried to talk to me about the stuff on the posters but again I just lost interest. I began to unpack and just nodded occasionally to make it seem like I was listening.

Once I was unpacked, which hadn't taken long, I left the room to look around. I think Addison was still talking, but I don't know. I trudged around and took a look at the classrooms there was nothing special about anything here really. I went outside and there was a track and football field. "Now this I can work with." I raced onto the field and practiced some drills I would normally do at school. Soon I had a crowd of people watching me. I slowly stopped as I noticed some of them were walking towards me. "Can I help you?" I asked as I dusted the dirt off my jeans.

There were about seven of them. Not as big as me, but big nonetheless. "Yeah, you're on our field freak." One of them shot at me. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. I wasn't going to be bullied by these humans so I told them to put up or shut up. The one I presumed was the leader punched me in the face and I just stood there. They held their hand in agony most likely it was broken. "Son of a Bitch!" He yelled. I just smirked and went back to my drills. I was soon stopped again, this time by an adult human walking up. He was tall like the boys who had come over earlier, but he was more muscular, but not inhuman. He had a scowl on his face that could curdle milk.

"Are you the inhuman who harassed my players?" His voice had an accent, but I couldn't tell what it was. Besides the accent, he sounded angry. I just shrugged my shoulders and told him they started it. "Well, now I'm finishing it. Get off my field now!" I stood up and told him I was a football player at my old school, but I didn't get to finish. "I don't care! You're an inhuman so I'm not gonna let you even set foot on this field. Now git before I call the headmaster!" I sighed and left. There was no use in trying to argue. All humans were the same. They think they are the best at everything and hate anything that is different.

When I returned to the room I was bombarded by questions from Addison who wanted to know what happened. I punched past him and hit the brick wall. He went silent and stared at me for a long time before leaving the room. He hurried down the hall as fast as his tiny legs could carry him. I shut the door and assessed by hand. It was broken alright, but I couldn't feel it I just knew by looking at it. I'd gotten a few broken bones from football so I had learned to recognize when I had broken bones.

I got up and went to open the door when it swung open and in came Addison followed by a woman with long mousy brown hair. "See I told you he broke it. I knew he did." Addison kept saying pointing at my broken hand. The lady, who I now presumed to be a nurse, examined at my hand and set it into place, maybe she was a doctor. She would look at me as she messed with it and say stuff like interesting or fascinating. I just rolled my eyes.

When she left Addison stared at me and frowned. "You may not be able to feel pain, but that doesn't mean you should hurt yourself." I stared at him for a moment then sat down and told him what had happened at the football field. "Well, no wonder you're mad. You have the right to play just as much if not more than they do." He stomped his little foot in frustration. I smiled a little and told him it didn't matter anymore. "Doesn't matter? It still matters! We should go talk to the headmaster!" I shook my head and told him to drop it. "No. It's unfair!" He pouted, "you should be able to play football just like the others. Who cares that you're inhuman?!?" I sighed. He couldn't possibly understand. He was a human. I told him to drop it again this time I played in bed and turned my back to him. I heard him huff and plop onto his own bed. School hadn't even started yet and I was already hating it here.
