14 Night Time Visit

I wake up with a jump.

Why'd I do that? What woke me up?

The infirmary is dark, I notice the dark girl from earlier isn't around so she must have switched off the lights before leaving.

I check to see if my precious roommate Brook is still in her bed.

She isn't.

Before I fully register this information a strong and all too familiar hand clamps over my mouth and I hear Brook shushing me and whispering something to me but her voice is too small and shaky for me to hear.

My body aches a bit(ok a LOT) from the battle wounds from yesterday and I can tell from Brook's stiff movements she's in even more pain, whatever woke us must be some seriously serious shit.

She winces a bit before pointing to the open infirmary window, releasing my face in the process.

Why the fuck will someone leave the windows open at night?

Despite my thoughts on the open window and the dull throbbing in my face I follow Brook's gaze and look outside, I can see the moon's light and shine but not the moon itself because it's behind something.

Something large, nearly triple the height of Rampart.

"The fu-"

Brook clamps her hand over my mouth again and drags me under my hospital bed, violently shaking her head from side to side like she was warning me of something.

Perplexed I look outside again and the giant mass blocking the moon suddenly turns and faces us, it's wide and crude looking pure white eyes meet ours and it smiles, revealing a set of shining but jagged teeth.

It's like the one from the dorms....

It IS the one from the dorms!

The creature bends it's oddly shaped and angular body down to the level of the infirmary and pokes it's eye through the window, staring at us intently. Like before it's eyes are leaking that thick, black liquid and some of it is dripping into the room..

I stare into it's eye, an infinite nothing that seems to hold the answers to everything.

The scent on this creature is familiar but it's distorted with all manner of clashing and contradictory smells also.

I can tell Brook is thinking the same thing.

Everything about this...this thing...is wrong.

After what seems like forever of it just looking at us and Brook and I praying to all the deities above us for protection it heaves itself off the floor, causing a great number of trees to fall and shaking what must be the entire school building to it's foundations.

It stands there and eyes us one last time, before it opens it's mouth and a twisted, distorted, screeching sound comes out of it, causing birds to flock away for miles and miles. It makes this sound again and it's smile grows even wider, the inside of it's mouth is nothing but teeth and a great white emptiness.

It occurs to both of us that that the thing is laughing and after a few more seconds of this otherworldly nonsense, it seemingly vanishes, gone for the night.

It doesn't matter though because the experience keeps both of us up till morning.

"There. You're all healed up. My powers aren't able to heal scars so at least you have cool battle scars to show your children. And I don't want to hear anymore of this Ronald vs Brook nonsense or I'm shoving my 5ft kanabo down all your asses. Am I clear?" Rampart addresses all of us in the way a disappointed mother talks to her children and for extra effect slams the kanabo(it's really just a giant metal stick with spikes and strange carvings) into the ground.

"Yes Rampart" we all reply in unison.

"Good. Take it easy cuz because my healing powers can't be used anytime you injure yourselves" she lectured us some more.

"Y'know for your scary and imposing appearance you're like a motherly dog" Raza speaks up from her position on Rampart's shoulder, eating something that looks eerily similar to raw meat.

"Any word on where the teachers are? And how long will it take for Mad-Lass and Fro to wake up?" My brother asks, tugging on his cap like he always does when he's thinking.

"Word from Dean is that Ryker sent them home for the week off. A bit strange to do that in the middle of the semester.." the tall girl answers, not even bothering to look down at us.

"And your brother and Madeline (her real name is Madeline?!) should be awake by tommorow"

Skully nods and turns to face me.

"C'mon Fabian. Say thank you to the giant goddess for healing you then we'll go find Bliss"

I say thanks but before I head off with my brother to find the little lizard girl I look at Brook.

Her eyes are glazed over, and her mind is clearly not here; she's still thinking about the thing from yesterday and to be honest it's been eating at my mind too.

With a last glance at the girl who attempted to kill me I follow Skully to find Bliss. If we're right she'll be hanging upside down somewhere or sleeping in the sun.

"Skully! Fabe! You're all right!" Bliss jumps out of a depression in the school's yard(a different yard, not the one we bloodied) and runs to hug both of us.

We both grimace because she's squeezing us too tight in our healed but still aching ribs(by the way I broke 3, Skully broke 2 and Brook had 6 broken)

"Nice to see you Bliss...now please let us go because you're crushing out ribs" I say as a single solitary tear drops out of my eye.

"Oops. Sorry" she drops us in a hurry.

"What of Toni and Lofī? We haven't told them thanks for assisting us yesterday" Skully says as he massages his forearm.

I completely forgot about those two. I guess the punches to my face did more than give me a broken nose.

"Oh Lofī and Toni are in the girls dorms resting. Y'all can meet them later. And look at this neat hole I found in the ground! It just appeared overnight. And on yeah the boys dorm got destroyed last night also.." Bliss told us while her tongue flicked about wildly, her eyes sparkling like nothing wrong had happened.

"Giant hole in the ground?" Skully asks, his cap shaking along with the rest of his body.

"Boys dorm destroyed?" I add as I begin recounting the events of last night.

"Yep. And it's a pretty big hole too. Stretches about 10ft long and 5ft wide" Bliss explains while inspecting her claws. "The boy's dorm? Looks like something ripped part of it off like it was paper. Whatever did that must be as strong as Raza or Rampart!"

"Have you seen this hole you came out of from above?" I ask, praying the hole is not what I think it is.

"Nope. We should be able to look at it from the school's roof though"

"Then let's go!"

Skully and I quickly leave Bliss behind thanks to our speed and Skully is way ahead of me in seconds, leaving greenish lighting behind him.

In my rush I bump into the dark girl from yesterday, I think her name's Blood? and she curses me out.

I reach the roof and meet Skully looking down with his mouth agape, his mind probably unable to believe what he's seeing.

I reach the roof's edge and look down below in the direction we just came from.

I nearly fall over the edge and my heart sinks, sweat forms allover my body and I start involuntarily shaking.

It's a footprint.
