2 Chapter 2

I tried to shake off what I had seen in the cashier's eyes but all I could think of was how fearful he looked. My stomach churned with nausea. Yea, Thordime is a weird planet but that was too bizarre. Everything here was new yet that building looked like it had been there for years. Trying to put that thought in the back of my mind, I started to feel better. Even more relived when the sign grew more distant in the rearview mirror.

Turning onto the main road I glanced in my mirror again. A black Dodge Charger with tinted windows was behind us.

The sick feeling I had earlier curdled in my stomach and lept to my throat, I swallowed it back down. Im sure there was nothing to worry about.

I took a bite of my breakfast sandwich, which I found hard to swallow, and reached for my drink. Shit. Of course the one thing we didn't get were drinks. No way were we turning back to the gas station so I settled on my voice command GPS. Basically Siri for your car.

"Cortano V, can you tell me how far away the next rest station will be?"

"Sure, Killian." Cortano V answered in a British accent. Whoops. I forgot I changed those settings.

A hologram of a map popped up on the dash. Man I love our advanced technology. "The next rest station is in... 30. Miles on... Klifton Street. Would you like directions?" Cortano V questioned, in the usual GPS voice. "Yes," I answered.

"Ok. Let me set the route for you!" Cortano V said, cheerfully. The map on the dash zoomed in to where we were and a red line appeared on the path we needed to follow.

"Thanks, Cortano V.

A few miles away from the rest stop Jacob spoke up.

"Hey Killian. I don't want to alarm you or anything but I think someone's following us." I glanced up in the rear view mirror. He was right. The black Dodge Charger that had been behind us after we left that run down convenience store was still there.

"Let me see if their actually following us." Even though my gut told me they were. I sped up and they did too.

"Damn, this person is definitely tailing us. Cortano V, how far till the next town.

"Next town is Glenburn," Which sounded more like gleenburn, "Time of arrival will be... 1:30pm." That's in an hour.

And I can make that a good 10 minutes. I proceeded to slam my foot on the accelerator.

Jacob was not expecting this at all. He was jerked back to his seat.

It felt like a car chase from the movie series, 'Fast and Furious'. I was filled with adrenaline, focused, hands clenched on the steering wheel. Making sure I weaved just right around the abandoned cars. The car behind us was built more for speed, they easily caught up. We sped all the way to a sharp turn and drifted around the corner.

That's when my phone started to ring.

You know how your driving instructor told you not to take your eyes off the road no matter what? And definitely shouldn't be trying to answer your phone while driving like a maniac? Yea, me neither. I took my eyes off the road for a split second and the last thing I remember was the air bags shooting out, knocking Jacob and I unconscious.
