Truth

While still processing everything, Huang Xiao Gao sat up on her bed and messaged the group chat before things got out of hand.

Pup: Don't worry guys, I'll handle it. Please don't do anything rash.

She felt like her whole world was spinning out of control. Feng Shin was her first boyfriend. He was two years her senior when they met in high school. They both wanted a career in showbiz and supported each other to work towards their dreams. Feng Shin was now a renowned producer with a collection of movies under his belt. She started doing some commercial modelling and then transitioned to some minor roles on screen. In the past, she was offered lead roles, but since most of them had some connection to Feng Shin, she declined the offers. She didn't like the idea of relying on someone. If their relationship was made public, she didn't want people to think she used her relationship with Feng Shin to get the roles.

She made herself a cup of milk tea and sat in front of her laptop. She knew she couldn't wait until the evening so she cracked her knuckles and started typing away at her keyboard. She started where she left off yesterday and started to review the CCTV footage to find the truth.

Later that night, someone rang Xiao Gao's doorbell. Knowing who it was, she didn't bother standing up from her desk. She instead took her phone and sent a text to Feng Shin: "Busy can't open the door. Changed the passcode to my birthday."

Feng Shin internally cursed when he received the text. He then quickly went on Weibo to see if he could find the answer. 'Sh*t, it's today.'

He punched in the code and entered the apartment. Xiao Gao was at her desk typing away, not even sparing a second to look up.

"Happy birthday Babe! Sorry for hanging up on you earlier today. You know how busy it is on set, especially since the filming of 'Another Life' is almost complete." He put down his jacket and bag and walked towards Xiao Gao.

"Some birthday surprise you gave me today huh? Don't come any closer. Explain yourself." Xiao Gao finally looked up from her laptop and glared at Feng Shin.

He examined her face, trying to read her emotions. He sighed, looking exhausted and started explaining the situation to her. "That photo was taken out of context. The angle in which it was taken made it seem like we were kissing but I didn't kiss her! We had dinner with the actors and crew that night. She drank a little too much and I just went to help her get to her cab."

"Really?" Xiao Gao raised an eyebrow. "Why did you confirm the relationship then?"

"Babe, I had no choice. You know how much this movie meant to me and how powerful SG Entertainment is. They're the ones that confirmed it and controlled the media to put a positive spin on the rumours. Look! As a result, the movie is one of the top trending searches today!"

"But what about me?" She questioned.

"I'm sorry. It's all my fault. But trust me, I'm only loyal to you." Feng Shin slowly approached her and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, giving her a hug. He put his head beside hers and explained, "After the movie is done production, I plan to announce my breakup with Lee Yue. Just let the rumours run its course. Look, it might even be advantageous to us! The press won't be following us as closely anymore..." He trailed off his sentence as he looked up to her computer screen.

On her computer screen was a CCTV footage of Feng Shin and Lee Yue sneaking to the alleyway and after looking to make sure no one was around, they passionately kissed each other. Xiao Gao swiped her fingers across the screen and another video came up. It was dated yesterday and it captured the two of them walking to the same hotel room an hour apart from each other.

"W-where did you get that from?"

Xiao Gao flung his arms away from her and turned her chair around to face him. She grabbed his shirt and pulled him close to her face. "Get lost and don't ever let me see you again." She then pulled him by the collar and threw him out of the apartment and slammed the door. A few seconds later, she opened the door and threw out his jacket and bag in the hallway.

She tapped a code on her phone to change her passcode and took a long shower. Her poker face cracked as soon as the water hit her face and she broke down crying. She adjusted the water to the highest power in hopes that the sound of the water drowns the sound of her sobs.
