Chapter 11: The Ex

Carson was surprised to see Avery in front of him. He turned to his father who was beside her. “Carson, this is your new assistant. We talked a bit while waiting for you and she mentioned that you helped her a few days ago.”

Carson nodded while Avery smiled. “I’m looking forward to working with you.”

Mr. Lee left them and head to his office. Carson then led the way. “So what happened to the orphanage?”

She lightly smiled as she followed him. “I can’t support them if I don’t have enough funds on my own. I still plan to help the kids and I will use my salary here to do that.”

He turned to her. Avery can’t tell if he was amazed or creeped out to see her. “Hey! Don’t misunderstand. I didn’t know you’re working here. Someone told me to try this job. He was from another company.”

He frowned. The only people who knew this vacant position was his dad and uncle Mark. “You know uncle Mark?”

Avery’s eyes widen. She turned around to check if someone was nearby. She can’t be complacent that John wasn’t planning to get back to her. When the area was clean, she looked at him and nodded.

“Why are you checking the surroundings? Are you hiding something?” He said as he crossed his arms. This was the first time Carson looked different for Avery. He looked suspicious and even angry.

“I can’t tell you how but yes it was him.” She replied and started walking ahead even if she has no idea where she was going. Carson continued to follow her. “If I found out that you were a spy for another company, I will make sure you will rot in jail.”

Avery laughed, a little too loud. “I have more money than you think. I don't need to work for anybody. You were the one who told me my clothes are expensive. So why doubt about my wealth?”

“Because you looked suspicious and we kept on meeting.”

She stopped walking and faced him. “For your information, I didn’t even know who you are until today. You were the one who went inside my condo, the one who gave me the umbrella, and the one who interrupted my dinner with Ran. Shouldn’t I be the one who should be creeped out?”

Carson looked away, “I didn’t follow you.”

She smirked. Carson might reject her twice but she won’t stop until she gets him. She then continued to walk to the office while he followed her.

His office was organized, unlike his car. The room is so wide, they can hold a meeting there. He walked to the other side of the room where there’s a small office.

“This is your spot.”

She raised her eyebrow. “Shouldn’t I be outside? To check who’s coming in?”

He looked at her as if she said something stupid. She raised her eyebrow again. She was not used to this treatment from him. He was such a gentleman outside the building but now he was just weird. He did not say anything and just walked to the table.

“We have CCTV. So you can easily check if someone’s coming.”

Avery just nodded. She has to keep quiet and just follow. Maybe this was the type of girl he wanted. If so, she can’t stand him. Carson then left some papers for her and required her to start working immediately.

The job was easy for Avery. Dating rich and old guys made her an expert in fixing schedules and doing paperwork. Just as she was about to take her lunch, she saw a woman approaching the room. She fixed her clothes and head out.

“Hi. Do you have an appointment?”

The woman looked at her from head to toe. Avery did the same and noticed that she was wearing branded clothing. Her hair was short and black. She didn't seem to be the sweet type as her lipstick was so red and her outfit was all black.

“Who are you?”

Before Avery could say anything, Carson came. “Jenny, what brings you here?” Jenny did not respond and just went to him. She placed her arms around him like a little kid. “I missed you.”

Carson lightly smiled, but Avery knew that kind of smile. It was a sign that he was uncomfortable. She knew she had to do something to gain his trust and this was the perfect way. She smirked. “Ahem”

Jenny turned to Avery. Avery went closer to them and with a scary tone, she said, “Take your hands off him.”

Jenny raised an eyebrow and turned to Carson. “Who is she?” He was about to respond when Avery spoke. “Darling, why didn’t you tell her about us?”

Jenny moved away from Carson with a frown. “You have a new girlfriend? But we just broke up.” Carson looked worried, which was Avery expected. Carson was too kind to reject people. “I.. we decided to separate ways so I have decided that it was time for me to move on as well."

The short-haired woman looked at Avery with anger. She might look like their age but she acted like a little girl. How did Carson fell for a woman like this and he is not interested in a mature woman like her?

"I don't believe you." Jenny said as she looked at the supposed couple. Avery then held his hand, surprising Jenny and Carson. "If you really love Carson, please respect his happiness.”

His hand felt warm and soft. She starred at how good their hands together looked like. She then turned to him. His expression seemed genuine when they both know it wasn’t true.

“I… I can’t believe this!!” Jenny screamed while she held her head. All her composure from before instantly disappeared. She then glared at them. “Who are your parents?! What is your company!”

Avery laughed. “Is that all you can do? Scare me because you’re rich?”

“I will pay you just to leave him.”

Avery let go of his hand and walked to her. She held Jenny’s hair and smirked. “No matter how much money you give me, I will not stay away from him. He’s mine now.”

Jenny frowned and walked away. Carson was about to follow Jenny but he stopped. He turned to Avery with a shocked expression. “How… did you do that?”

She turned to him and smiled. “You owe me, Carson.”
