9 Chapter 9: Closer

Shen Jun Shan did not see Qiao An the next day, or the day after that. He was curious, of course, but he couldn't just barge in into Qiao An's place as if they were close to each other.

But Amy Shen could.

Amy Shen was quite close with Qiao An so it wouldn't be a problem if she asked Qiao An about it.

It was the middle of the week, and Amy Shen was quite busy with her work. Shen Jun Shan and Amy were running a construction company. They had already planned everything since high school. Therefore, during their university years, Shen Jun Shan majored in Civil Engineering while Amy Shen pursued her degree in business management.

It was such a busy time for them as they were partnering with Wallance's company in a big project they had just acquired, so Amy Shen did not have time to invite Qiao An for dinner. She already forgot about it, but a certain someone made her remember about Qiao An's brother.

"Sis, I think Qiao An's brother is very familiar, but I'm not sure if it's just me or you will also feel the same if you see him" Shen Jun Shan knew that Amy Shen was a curious girl, so he purposely mention Qiao An's brother to her.

"I remembered that you mentioned he is good looking" Amy stopped whatever she was doing and looked at her brother excitedly. "I'll invite An for dinner today".

Shen Jun Shan felt happy for some reasons. Last time, he felt as if something was starting when Qiao An smiled at him, but he was not sure. Shen Jun Shan needed to see her a few more time to confirm it. Or maybe, because Qiao An rarely smiled at him, so the smile made his heart fluttered when he saw that it was directed towards him the first time.

That evening, Qiao An showed up in front of D1006 with a whole cake with her. When Shen Jun Shan opened the door, Qiao An smiled at her and walked by without saying anything to him. Then, she put the cake inside the fridge quietly before she went to help Amy Shen in the kitchen.

"An An, my brother said that your brother is handsome. Is that right?" Amy Shen did not shy away from asking about it openly.

Shen Jun Shan wanted to get a glass of water when he heard Qiao An's reply to the question. He suddenly hid behind the wall. He didn't know why, but he automatically hid when he heard his name mentioned by Qiao An.

"Well, my three best friends said that my brother is handsome. Truthfully, I think your brother is even more handsome than my brother."

Lub-dub. Lub-dub.

A lot of females complimented Shen Jun Shan on his look but those females complimented people too easily. For people who don't speak much, in Shen Jun Shan's perspective, their words carried much heavier meaning. Like Qiao An, she rarely complimented someone or things, but to say that she thought Shen Jun Shan was even more good looking than Jin, it made him happy.

"My brother is indeed handsome. I rarely see a man who is more handsome than my brother. Since my brother said that your brother is handsome, I think your brother will not lose to him in terms of look. Are you going to introduce him to us?"

It's been a few weeks, and Amy Shen has gotten much closer to Qiao An. Since her brother also asked Qiao An to introduce the Shen siblings to him, Qiao An promised to introduce Jin to Amy Shen. Amy Shen was happy but not because of Qiao An's brother. She was delighted because Qiao An opened up herself more towards her now.

The first few days of their friendship, Qiao An looked like she didn't want to be with Amy Shen. Now, Qiao An even makes herself feel like home, so Amy Shen was elated to have a friend like that.

In the end, Shen Jun Shan did not manage to get a glass of water, but he waited until dinner to drink. After eating dinner, Qiao An brought the whole cake to the table and cut a slice. She put the cake on a small plate before giving the plate to Shen Jun Shan.

Both the Shen siblings were surprised. Amy Shen thought that Qiao An would give her a plate first, but it turned out that her brother got it first. Amy Shen had this questioning look thrown towards Shen Jun Shan.

At the moment, Shen Jun Shan had difficulty to comprehend what had happened. A few moments ago, Qiao An complimented him on his look, and now suddenly, she served him a piece of cake first. Did Qiao An has a crush on him?

Qiao An looked at Shen Jun Shan with eyes full of hope and anticipation as he was eating the cake. "Shen Jun Shan, is it nice?"

Shen Jun Shan nodded for confirmation. Then after that, Qiao An cut a slice of cake for Amy Shen and a slice for herself. The three of them enjoyed the cake.

"An An, why do you prepare cake today? Is today your birthday?" Amy Shen finished the last bite of her cake and asked the purpose of the cake to Qiao An.

"Yesterday, I told my students about a myth I read from the internet. Somewhere in Borneo, people were putting love potion, some kind of black magic, in the food and gave the food to the person they like. After eating the food, the person will be smitten to death with the person who gives the food. Out of the blue, my student gave me this cake today. Mind you, he doesn't have any reason to give me one, but he did. So, I'll bring it over to share with both of you. I guess there's no harm in being careful."

Amy Shen felt like puking out everything she had eaten.

"But don't worry. It's safe. Shen Jun Shan tasted it first so there should be anything wrong in it. Maybe my student wants to be friendly."

Shen Jun Shan let out a loud laugh. The two girls looked at him in horror. They thought that maybe something was wrong with Shen Jun Shan after eating the cake.

"Silly!" Shen Jun Shan looked at Qiao An. He was busy thinking of reasons why Qiao An was giving him the cake first. He even thought that Qiao An might have a crush on him only to get splashed by cold water at the revelation of him being treated as the food tester for black magic.

"Don't have wild thought about it. Sometimes people just want to be kind" Shen Jun Shan said those words to Qiao An, but at the same time, it was also a reminder for himself.

Qiao An looked at Shen Jun Shan silently, as if she wanted to say something to him. She smiled and brought the plates to the sink.
