17 Chapter 17: Mermaid Princess

The feeling of having to see your old flame in an unexpected situation was never good. Shen Jun Shan wanted to return to his car and waited for Qiao An there because he did not want to see Chloe or Cleo or whatever she wanted to be called now.

Shen Jun Shan was sure that he didn't love Chloe anymore. It's just that, since Chloe was his first love and their breakup was a bad one, he couldn't get her out of his head completely. There will always be something that reminded him of her. As if he couldn't erase her existence in his mind because of unanswered questions. Maybe it's curiosity. Or maybe because Shen Jun Shan was someone who needed to have the answer for everything.

The past few years, he decided to completely forget about Chloe thinking that he mourned enough of his brief love for a lifetime. So, why would he continue to shroud himself in pain?

Previously, Shen Jun Shan told himself that he was not in love with Chloe anymore but he didn't have any confidence in that. Today, he knew for sure that he was over her.

His inner monologue was disturbed by a knock on the window. It was Qiao An.

Shen Jun Shan did not expect that Qiao An will return to his car in a short time. He thought that Qiao An might want to spend some time with her family. After all, it seemed as if Qiao An haven't met them for quite some times. Shen Jun Shan unlocked the door.

"I thought you are going to take your time there" Shen Jun Shan spoke as Qiao An entered the car. "I'm sure your family wants to spend more time with you".

"I…" Qiao An turned her body to face Shen Jun Shan. She looked at him as if she was trying to find a clue of his emotion at the moment. "I talk to mom every night. Video call. Uncle is there too". Qiao An turned her head and looked outside. "I don't have the habit of letting people wait for me especially a man".

This woman. Is this her own way of being considerate to people?

Shen Jun Shan didn't respond to that and started his car. He was driving quietly with a lot of things in his mind. That last year in university, Chloe wanted to break up with him. She told Shen Jun Shan that she couldn't be with him anymore because they wanted different things in life.

Chloe said that having to considerate someone's feeling before the things she wanted the most in life was very tiring and she didn't want to be tired anymore. Therefore, she wanted to break up with Shen Jun Shan.

Shen Jun Shan knew that Chloe wanted to enter the showbiz as Chloe was talented in acting and singing. He did express his unwillingness for Chloe to enter showbiz because at that time he was immature and stupid – and being young and stupid, he was a bit possessive towards his girlfriend. He didn't want other people to covet his girl.

But Shen Jun Shan wasn't entirely cold-hearted; he was opened for discussion. Shen Jun Shan would put away his own unwillingness if Chloe really wanted things to go as she wanted. But she did not want to discuss things any further and because of that, Shen Jun Shan felt that there was another reason why Chloe wanted to break up with him.

Shen Jun Shan had always wanted to meet Chloe back for the first two years after the breakup but he never saw her. And now that he didn't want to, suddenly Chloe was in front of him. If life is not a bitch, he didn't know what is.

"Are you okay?"

Shen Jun Shan glanced at Qiao An who suddenly asked about him. Isn't this a bit late to inquire about someone's condition? Is this her way of comforting people?

"Why wouldn't I?" Shen Jun Shan snorted while giving Qiao An a quick glance. "Is there any reason why I should be okay tonight?"

Qiao An opened her mouth as if to say something but she closed it back. Like Ariel the Mermaid, she seemed as if she wanted to say a lot of things, her mouth moved but nothing came out from her mouth. Shen Jun Shan thought that the tone he used might be quite harsh that it rendered Qiao An speechless.

He was about to clarify himself but Qiao An spoke first.

"You don't need the evil queen of Egypt. With your handsome face and bank figure, you can get any princesses you want".

They came to a halt because of the red traffic light and that gave Shen Jun Shan the time to really looked at his partner for the night.

Princesses? Like Ariel? Shen Jun Shan laughed at Qiao An's remark. Why is she like this? Why is she so cute?

Shen Jun Shan drove back to their apartment complex without saying anything about Chloe or about the princesses. Qiao An didn't say anything too since the man beside her didn't want to.

When they reached the parking lot, Qiao An went out of the car and behind her was Shen Jun Shan. When they reached the first floor, Qiao An turned her back to face Shen Jun Shan and said her goodbye. Without waiting for a reply from Shen Jun Shan, she walked up the stairs.

After she walked up to three steps, she heard that Shen Jun Shan was following her up. She turned back to see what Shen Jun Shan was up to.

"That is your house" Qiao An pointed towards the door of D1006 thinking that Shen Jun Shan was absentminded therefore, he forgot which floor they were.

"I know. I just want to see you enter your house safely" Shen Jun Shan smiled at the confused Qiao An. "It's late. A beautiful girl shouldn't walk alone late at night".

Shen Jun Shan meant nothing when he said those words but seeing how Qiao An's face slowly turning red after he said those word, for some reason, Shen Jun Shan felt giddy. What's cuter was that Qiao An turned around and walked in hurry without waiting for Shen Jun Shan.

By the time Shen Jun Shan arrived in front of D2006, Qiao An already entered her house. She nodded at him, said 'thank you and good night' and closed the door before Shen Jun Shan could say anything.

When Shen Jun Shan entered his house, Amy was sitting on the sofa, munching on popcorn while watching a romantic movie. She looked at her brother who had a silly grin on his face.

"Did anything good happened? Why are you so happy?" Amy Shen passed the popcorn to her brother.

"I saw the evil queen of Egypt today. I was a bit distracted but the Mermaid Princess told her off in the coolest way so I'm okay now".

Shen Jun Shan put the popcorn on the table and walked towards his room.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you. The Mermaid Princess blushed easily too".

Before Amy could say anything, Shen Jun Shan closed his door – leaving Amy with a lot of questions in the living room.
