« Oh? You're alive ? », Jackson smirked.

Lara and Hana were in the room as well.

It was quite funny, however seeing Jackson making fun of me with his smug / know-it-all attitude in spite of his neck being bandaged.

I looked at Lara and found myself a bit taken aback: [Lara Hart - Level 22 Pirate Captain]

It seemed like our recent life and death situation didn't just stimulate my growth but that of our entire crew, and especially that of our captain, Lara. She must have trained really hard after feeling so helpless

Lara slapped me hard: « You had no right to stab me like that... »

[You have received 23 damage]

« Hey...he saved your life », Jackson said.

Lara started crying and stormed off the room...Right, I did stab her in the back. But she probably knows, inwardly, that I saved her.

Else, I wouldn't be alive right now.

We are talking about a woman who didn't hesitate to plunder a town before the cold season passed.

Unwilling to let the gloomy atmosphere go on for any longer, I asked: « How Long was I out ? »

« Roughly a month, I suppose », Jackson said

My eyes became round.

Right...we weren't even in the ship, but rather on firm ground!

« We are on Garlic Island, and we passed ourselves for a crew of merchants. We have been selling stuff ever since then legally, and although we have to pay taxes because of it, we don't have to hide. There are many marines in the town though, so you have to be careful not to reveal your true identity. In fact, you should just stay indoor like Jackson and Lara since your bounty is quite high », Hana said

One month! I had made a slight miscalculation and I was out for one entire month?

Damn it! This is one shitty devil fruit power. I kind of half expected to recover after one night of sleep but...seems like reality struck me hard there...

« What about our profits? And our losses? », I asked, expecting more than just bad news.

But then again, reality.

« We had to repair and improve the crusader, hire new crew mates, sailors mostly, and some infamous thugs. They aren't half bad, but it will take months before they can catch up to the rest of the crews. As you know, we lost dozens of Red Ghosts, last month, and among them, there was Tenji. I personally scouted a cook, an ex-marine like me »

« What is his name? Is he strong? »

« Oh, Marcus is strong, I can assure you of that, and although it took work to convince him to become a pirate, he is an alright man. With principles, but a man nonetheless. But he is not human. He is actually a Frost dwarf, a race of subhuman who are born with little height and crazy strength. He is short, but I don't think Arthur would win in a brawl against him. Yeah, Arthur recovered as well. »

That's good! Good news finally! The weak pirates had been weeded out from the crew, and we were recruiting fresh thugs, ready to be trained harshly. Plus, we now got...A DWARF!

It sucks to lose Tenji, but the guy wasn't very like able in the first place so...

Jackson then handed me a book, where they accounted the crew's funds: 3 210 000 Berry.

I smiled.

After all these expenses, we still had over three millions!

He handed me a pouch of coins : There were over a hundred thousand Berry in it: « That's your share. For saving Lara and everyone else. Without you, I don't think we would be alive. I wanted to give you more, but Lara thought that this thing would make you happier »

He handed me another box. In it, there was...a book about rifle mechanics and how to modify them!

I smiled.

They were the best!

I then walked to the ship, covering my face. At this moment, I realized: it truly was too good to be true.

And indeed, it was.

« What about the Fishman princess? »

« Princess? Oh? Are you talking about the Fishman you took hostage? », Tony asked, since he was the one to take care of prisoners.

« Yeah, duh ! », I answered curtly

« Alright calm down! She escaped alright? WE had bound her hands and feet, but the damn monster made a hole through the ship with her teeth! How could I expect her to do that? »

They were definitely not the best. They were morons. And now, a girl who had gained ten levels in the short span of a few days was coming for me.

Fuck.

I got to be stronger than that.
