2 First Raid

« You...how old are you? », a woman asked, unable to process the fact that a kid (I did look like a kid actually) had was sitting on a pile of corpses, guards and rebelling civilians who tried to attack him mostly, some being pure innocents caught trying to flee.

Though there were kids stronger than adults, it was still rare. And considering that normal people had around 10 points in each attribute, I was only slightly above average.

But...firearms were overpowered when it came to grinding. A simple billet in the head and the people would drop dead.

I approached the woman. She was twenty, at most, but I pulled her hair backwards and whispered: « I am the devil », making her tremble in fear.

[Quest completed!]

[You have terrorized over 50 inhabitants of Kaya Island!]

[Your infamy has reached 300 points in this Island]

[You have been rewarded with 5000 Belly, 200 EXP and one skill point!]

[You have invested one point in your skill: [Firearm mastery] is now level 4]

Lara approached me: « William...I am impressed by your performance! Since when were you so good at shooting ? »

[Lara Hart - Lv. 18 Pirate

Status - Interested, wounded]

I merely smirked in response.

While I was sitting there, dozens of pirates were raiding the houses, and because the villagers had been either killed in an attempt to resist or subdued, they met no resistance. Family heirlooms, historical artefacts...the village was plundered, fields burnt, reserves emptied...

It was a horrible sight, yet I could not emphasize with the villagers. They were weak after all. The fact that I adapted so fast made me fearful of myself, but I assumed it was part of my gamer fruit. Inwardly, I saw them as NPC, nothing less, nothing more.

I moved back to the ship with the Red Ghosts, my new crew, after taking my share: 65000 Belly from my contributions, the third highest amount after Lara Hart, the captain and Jackson Tale, the first mate, both wielding swords better than most.

However, no amount of Belly could possibly rival the item I stole from the village's mayor.

[Modified Marine Rifle - Uncommon item

Base damage: 35]

An uncommon item had fallen in my hands. I was already crazily lethal before, capable of dealing 100 damage (5*rifle base damage) with my headshot skill.

But now...I could deal up to 175 damage !

It was dreadful

The crew had taken some women and men captives, to work them off, I assumed, but I smirked seeing the slightly fearful gaze the other pirates of the crew sent me...

They probably had trouble accepting the fact that the teenager William Steel used to be had become someone capable of killing over twenty villagers

I didn't care about them though. I sat on the deck and started to look at my status page.

This first quest made me understand three things: I could earn EXP by doing quests and killing people and animals in general (it worked with dogs so...), I could level up my skills by using them continuously or investing skill points, and every level up granted me two free attribute points.

It didn't take a genius to understand that piracy truly fit my devil fruit. It was as if it invited me to kill and plunder to get stronger

It truly lived up to its name of DEVIL fruit...
