NEW MISSION

"..."

Terrence couldn't help but laugh like a crazy man.

"Why was I expecting to get that? I'm not like an MC of a novel who just gets everything they want."

Terrence shrugged his shoulder. He wasn't really bitter about it. He knew there was no way he would get that. But he still can't help but curse the roulette.

Out of all the prizes written there, it decided to give him a dud.

Terrence scoffed. "Why that?

[I don't have any control over your luck, Host. You're just unlucky.]

"..."

'Why did I acquire a system again?' He asked himself.

Terrence sighed. He closed the lottery tab. The only good thing was at least he didn't get to lose anything.

His eyes were caught by the [Missions] tab. He grinned. This was what excited him since earlier.

Terrence opened the [Missions] Tab.

=====

[Mission Available: 1]

[Mission: Earn $250]

[Reward/s: $250 and 1 lottery ticket.]

=====

Terrence read the mission out loud. 'So, I'm supposed to earn $250?' his forehead creased.

The mission sounded easy, and yet he knew that it was a hard thing to do.

How can he even earn that much money?

'So that means this system wants me to work?' he sighed. And here he was, already planning that if he got a lot of money, then he would just stay still and not do anything earlier.

'Hmm… if that's the case, then I might as well look for a part-time job,' he uttered.

Since there was no duration on how long until the mission ended, he took it as a sign that he could do the mission anytime he wanted.

However, there was a big problem. There were only a limited number of jobs being offered in their area. At the same time, the pay was not that high since they were living in the urban area.

'Well, I still need to try.'

Terrence closed the screen in front of him. He grabbed his phone and went to a job listing site. He adjusted the setting and filtered out the choices so that it would only show the ones near his area.

He scrolled through the site for minutes.

He wanted a job that was easy to do and something that pays him a lot.

However, just the two would already make it impossible for him to find one that he actually liked.

The only jobs he found either belonged to the category of two; The first one was the job was easy, but the salary was like shit. The second one was the job was shit but paid well.

He found it interesting that there was no in-between.

"Well, I guess I need to think about it more." Terrence can't help but sigh.

Since he had no qualifications or any experience, he knew that it would almost be impossible for him to get something that at least pays average.

After almost an hour of finding, nothing interested him except for one.

There was this job that offered $8 for an hour. The job description says that he would need to work as a waiter for a recently opened restaurant.

However, the problem was it was a contractual part-time job. That means Terrence will need to stay in the position for at least 6 months.

"Fuck, this is hard…" Terrence sighed in disbelief.

He expected the mission to give him something he would look forward to, but it was quite the opposite.

"Brother! I am homeeee!" A loud shout made Terrence stop what he was doing.

That's the only time he realized that it had already been more than an hour since he returned home. He took a deep breath and stood up before he went out of the room.

"Brother!" Abigail looked excited as she saw her brother. She had a wide smile on her face.

"Guess what I got!"

Terrence examined Abigail. He noticed that she was hiding something behind her back.

He actually does not have any idea what Abigail was hiding behind her back. He was already too tired to think. However, he can't destroy the excitement that he saw in Abigail's eyes.

"What is it? Did you find a gold outside?" Terrence uttered before smiling.

Abigail rolled her eyes. "What kind of guess is that, brother? That's not smart at all."

"Here, brother. A classmate of mine gave this to me." Abigail smiled sweetly as she showed a famous store's gift card.

"Woah!" Terrence smiled at his sister. He remembered that it was the brand that Abigail had been eyeing for so long, even though it was just an average brand.

"You can now shop at that brand. Didn't you want to do that since last year?"

Abigail nodded. "I know, right, brother! Tomorrow, I'll definitely go there after my class. Tell Mom and Dad that I will be home late."

"Sure," Terrence agreed.

"It's already close to 7, Brother. Let's eat dinner now before I do all my assignments." Abigail, with a smile on her face, uttered.

"Alright."

Terrence, being the older brother, took the initiative to prepare the food on the table. He just went to grab some vegetables in their mini refrigerator to go with the roasted chicken he had bought.

It wasn't that long before they started to eat.

"Oh, you bought from this from the grocery shop outside?" Abigail curiously asked as she saw the brand of the rotisserie chicken on the packaging.

"Yeah, why?"

"The old woman of that grocery store got into the ambulance earlier! Apparently, her blood pressure went up because of a rude customer!" Abigail chuckled after she told the story she had heard.

Terrence almost choked on the food that was in his mouth. "Where did you hear that?"

Abigail smiled. "From the people outside! The news about it spread like wildfire! Maybe because that old woman is hated by our neighbours."

"I didn't know that."

"It's because she has been exploiting money for months already! The people can't do anything but agree to it because they're the only store here." Abigail added.

"What happened after that then?" Terrence asked out of curiosity.

"The grocery store owner had no choice but to fire the old woman already! Because she is already old, right? And apparently, he didn't know anything about what that old woman was doing."

"Ohhh..."

"Now, they're looking for a part-time employee that could work in their grocery store just for this week to help the owner manage it while they're looking for another employee.
