5 Comet

"You have reached Alexandra Kim, please leave a message and I will get back to you soon."

"UHHHHHH" Anya moaned. "How could she say 'call me whenever you need me' and then be completely unreachable?" She looked out at the city from her living room. It was a sunny day, and she was cooped up here doing nothing. These past few weeks were hard, but her heartbreak didn't stop her from being bored. After the first few days, streaming television shows and looking at memes got old, quick. She had the will power at first to stay off social media and the blogs, but soon her boredom won over. That was a terrible mistake. To say the least, her platforms were just splattered with hate and animosity, so she couldn't look anywhere without seeing what she was trying to forget.

Anya missed being able to go out and do things, but most of all, she missed her dog. That little furball was what kept her going, but as of right now, he was being taken care of by the owner of his doggy day care. Anya's love for her dog was the only reason she was going to be contacting Alex at 8:00 A.M. on a Saturday. She had already called her ten times, but she hadn't picked up yet. Anya wanted her freaking dog back.

Alex was the one that had him boarded over at the daycare, and since he loved it so much there, and Anya wasn't really up to taking care of herself, let alone a dog, that she agreed. But he had been there for almost two weeks now, and Anya KNEW he would be missing his mama by now. He needed to be with the love of his life. Well, that was cheese technically, but Anya was a close second.

Anya went and collapsed onto the sofa and pulled out her laptop. She pulled up the daycare website and found their number. Maybe this time they'll listen, Anya thought. She would have to get through to someone today. She dialed the phone number and looked through the website pictures. There, in almost all of the shots was her boy, little social butterfly he was.

"High-rise animal care and spa, this is Callen. How may I help you?" A man's deep voice rumbled through the phone.

Anya had not yet talked to this guy in any of the many times she had called before. "Hello, I'm calling about my baby Comet. I would like to set a time for pickup"

"Oh," Callen paused on the other end, "uhhh, so yeah, I've been told about you."

"Can't say I'm surprised to hear that." Anya knew this conversation was probably going to end the same way the others did.

"I can't do that right now. We have an agreement that only Ms. Kim is allowed to pick up Comet. You'll have to contact her to bring Comet back home." Callen seemed like he might have rehearsed this in his customer service voice.

"O.K. so here's the thing," Anya was ready to start her point, "Alex, I mean manager Kim, only made that agreement because I wasn't, uh, feeling to well, but I'm better now. I just really miss my little buddy, and I know that he misses me." There was a sigh on the other end of the phone. "Please?"

"Uhhhh, I don't exactly know what this whole situation of yours is, but I do know what it's like to be separated from your family."

This seemed a little off to Anya. How did he not know what the situation was? Did he not know who she was? Did this man live under a rock? "Yeah, I want my baby back. Do you think you can help me?"

There was a long pause over the line. "O.K., so here's what I'm going to do." Callen started, "I'm the one that made that agreement, but it was kind of vague. I have tried to call Ms. Kim, but she hasn't been available. I realize that she is probably a busy woman. So I'm going to give you an opportunity to prove to me that you are well enough to take care of Comet. In a few hours my replacement is coming, so I'll bring him over to your place and see what the environment looks like."

"O.K., there shouldn't be a problem. Everything is fine here." Anya gave him her address and said, "When you get here, talk to the front desk and tell them you are visiting me. I will make sure that they know someone is coming, and they should escort you up to my floor."

"Uh, O.K." He seemed a little confused, but gathered himself. "But I want to make one thing very clear." Callen's voice was stern as he continued. "I will not let Comet stay if you aren't able to take care of him"

"I would expect no less." Anya said her goodbyes and hung up the phone. She threw it down on the couch and sighed. At least this time they were giving her a chance to prove she was fine. Anya was pissed that Alex hadn't already taken care of this. She was going to give her a piece of her mind the next time she saw her, but that was for another time.

Anya looked around the apartment and for a moment and was completely overwhelmed. This place was an absolute mess. She hadn't had any cleaners in for a long while, and she didn't even know where to start. Did she even have any cleaning supplies in the apartment? Cleaning was going to be no small task. No matter what she was getting Comet back. Anya shored up her resolve and got straight to work.
