She opened her eyes expecting to be in hell but found that she was still alive. She felt her body and she was in one piece. She got up from the ground and moved back in excitement. She slipped and fell down the cliff she was standing on.

She closed her eyes to embrace the fall but after waiting for so long she was still not on the ground. She slowly opened her eyes and found herself back up the mountain where she had woken up from. She released a sigh of relief and this time she didn't move back.

"Where am I?" she asked herself.

"In the bridge to the afterlife," said an old man in white jumping down from trees next to her. She jumped at his voice, she didn't expect there to be someone there with her.

"Who are you?" she questioned.

"That is not important at the moment. What is important is you. Do you want to rest in a piece or another chance in life?" he asked getting straight to the point.

"What?"

"Listen, if you are here it means that the universe feels you deserve a second chance in life. So whether or not you take the chance depends on you," he said to her. The idea in itself brought immense happiness to her. She could go back and have him all yo herself. She will live get a life again and stop herself from making the exact choices. And live a happy life.

"I choose to go back," she said and the old man started laughing at her.

"You don't understand, you can't return to your life. It was the reason you now need a second chance so can't return to it," he said and the glow in her eyes faded. What is a second chance in life without him in her life?

"I choose peace then," she said life draining from her body. The excitement that was in her heart died down.

"What may I ask is there that you want to return to?" the old man asked her.

"My life," she replied sadly.

"But you are standing right here. Then how can your life be back there?" he asked her and she just gave him a sad smile. How does she begin to tell him about the love of her life? The man who shined brighter than any star in the night sky. The man who always brought a smile to her face. He was sweet and spicy at the same time and a perfect recipe for adventure and fun.

"I see, you are in love," he said understanding her silence. He thought about it for a moment and decided to help her. "You know a person can get another to follow them after their death if they wish to," he said casually.

Valeria's hope returned and she glanced at the old man. She thought about his statement. "Can he follow me to the place I go to when he dies?"

"It is possible but that comes with a price."

"Whatever the proof is I am willing to pay it. I just want to be reunited with Davy again," she said without a second thought.

"Are you sure you are willing to do whatever it takes for your love? You have a chance to be free and live the life you always wanted and fulfill all your dreams."

"I am sure," she said confidently.

The old man asked her to follow him. Together they went further into the mountain. They traveled to the top where they saw an old cabin that looks it was going to fall at any given moment. But there was a lake that was between them and the cabin.

She looked around to look for a boat but there was nothing around that they could use to get across. She looked at the old man wondering if he had brought there to drown or to help her.

The old man raised his hand into the sky and the lake froze and became solid ice. Valeria watched with awe at how amazing it was, she looked back at the old man with one question in mind. "Who are you?"

They walked on top of the house and arrived at the cabin. Valeria was scared and nervous about what awaited her behind the cabin door but she needed him in her life and was willing to do anything for him.

The old man pushed the door opened and the two of them went inside. "Has the girl left already? That was fast but good, we have more dead and living people to handle," said an old woman looking through flying scrolls.

The scene was like a magic movie to Valeria, she was stunned by the things that she was seeing. "She is still here. She wants a wish of hers granted, I brought her to do the test," he explained.

"THE test!" the woman said surprised she looked over at Valeria and back at the man. "Are you sure?" she asked her. Valeria nodded her head not sure what she was being asked. She just assumed it was something to do with getting her love back.

"Okay," she said and lifted Valeria with her telekinesis powers. She sent her into the next room and locked the door behind her. She activated the runes of the room and went back to arranging the scrolls on the table. Valeria stood in the room alone. There was no light in the room or anything else apart from her. Not a single person or any furniture.

Suddenly she saw two fireflies flying in through what looked like the window. They looked so beautiful flying together, she thought of how beautiful it would look if that was the two of them.

"Why should you be given a chance to be with him again when it was you who left him?" she heard and looked around in the room but couldn't see anyone.

"Because I love him. And I made a mistake while letting him go, he is my life and I can't live without him. The years away from him I haven't lived. I simply existed."

"And what are you willing to do to have him back?"

"Whatever it takes just to see him again. Even from a distance if not close to me," she said feeling guilty for leaving him behind for a man who only made her cry. When tears don't look good on her.

"That can be made possible but you will have to something else in return. The human world is in danger from supernatural creatures that cross from their world to the human realm. You must kill them or send them back to their world and in return, your love will be a return to you after he dies. The term of your service is 1000 years as an immortal. After these years, you will be free to do as you please. If you accept them reach your hand out," the voice said slowly so Valeria could hear.

She reached out her hand in the next second. She only heard that she would meet him and that was enough for her. One of the fireflies landed in her hand and went through her skin and crawled up her hand to her chest and went through her heart.

"The other firefly will enter his heart and that will help you recognize him when he returns to you," the voice said. The next moment became dizzy and fell to the ground and lost consciousness.
