1 Dead and Donezo

Kevin Lu Ren was an average boy. He had an average childhood, with crushes, chores, bicycles and the lot. His parents were normal people, living in a modest home that was comfortable enough for their family. He went to a public school, and had decent grades. Enough to be in the top class but never enough to be number 1. He could be described as an average looking with his short hair, normal build body and of average height. He was not short by any means, but will never be tall enough to make the basketball team, which did not matter, as he didn't like basketball.

He sat down in his table by the window in the classroom. The warm rays of the sun shone into the classroom as he peered out of the window, soaking in the view of his school's facilities.

"Kevin!" a feminine voice rang out. Kevin turned his head towards it.

"Hey Suzie," Kevin greeted with a smile. Suzie was his friend. They had known each other through another friend but had bonded over the love of books. She could be described as a beautiful girl athletic as she is captain of the women's track team, with long black hair reaching her waist, soft brown eyes and a small face. A blue butterfly hair clip kept her hair from spilling all over her face. She had a fair complexion, long legs that guys could not help staring at, round bubble butt, relatively small waist and from what Kevin could make out from her clothing, a sizable bust. She was the object of many boys' affections.

"There is a new place that opened up yesterday in the mall, I was wondering if you wanted to try the food with me and Merrill?" she asked. Merrill was another friend. Merrill was kind, gentle and friendly. She usually would be sleeping at her desk before class starts, so no one bothered her. She was extremely beautiful. If there was a girl that all the guys want, it would be Merrill. Long luscious red hair, gentle smile, big blue eyes and of course, she was very very very well endowed. Rumors put her bust at a very massive F cups. It was always something the boys would dream about.

Kevin thought about it a little. He did love trying out food, but was on a budget this month.

"Why not all of us go?" another voice sounded from behind. A figure loomed over Suzie. She turned around to face it.

"John," she greeted. He smiled. John was a tall boy, a whole head taller than Kevin. He was a player in the basketball team. Kevin and John were acquaintances at best, and that was stretching it by a mile. Kevin hated John. John had a habit of picking on people weaker than he was. Kevin usually just ignored John. There was also another reason why Kevin hated John, but Kevin quickly shut it out of his head.

" Suzie is giving Kevin the time of the day! How kind of her to be inclusive!" a loud voice exclaimed. That voice belonged to Benson, who was the class monitor. Benson was a proud boy, for he was ranked 5th in the whole school, and was the star striker in the school football team.

The school bell rang, signally the start of the school day. The homeroom teacher, Ms. Jodie Lee came into the room. She was a lady of diminutive stature, but had all curves in all the right places. She was single, only because her passion lay in teaching students. She was wearing a white blouse and a pencil skirt. She took her job seriously.

"Today, we will be focusing on the history of the world. Lots of great men and women ruled before our time, they each had accomplishments that are worthy of learning from," Ms. Jodie started. The students all looked at her attentively. While she was the homeroom teacher, she also thought history.

" Please turn to page 113, Chapter 6, The Rise and Fall of Toyotomi Hideyoshi," she instructed. As she was writing the timeline for said historical figure, the ground started to shake. It was a small rumbling initially, but quickly became an earth shattering quake. The whole building shook, debris fell from the ceiling. Everyone panicked before a white light engulfed them.

Kevin shielded his eyes with both his arms and waited for death. When nothing came, he peeked through his hands. He saw that he was now in a different location. It appeared to be a field. He saw his classmates wonder too where they were as they looked around curiously at their new surroundings. A loud thud caused their heads to turn.

There was a battalion of soldiers standing not far from them. They wore metal armor as if they were from the medieval ages. Every soldier had a spear and a sword. Standing in front of them was a huge muscular man, wearing broad armor and had a battle axe strapped to his back.

"Welcome to the Kingdom of Lavernia," he greeted with a bow.

Kevin looked at his friends. They looked puzzled. While still in shock, he has more or less guessed what was happening. It was almost like they were in a manga - being summoned into another realm, as heroes, to help combat the impending doom. It usually means there is a demon lord somewhere. It was.... Cliche.

"We summoned you to our world, great heroes, in hopes you would save it," the bulky man explained. "I am Knight Commander Roland, leader of the army of The Kingdom of Lavernia."

"Come again?" Benson said asked. He was always the first one to snap out of things. Ronald explained everything. Lavernia and its neighbouring countries were once ruled by a powerful demon, who was a Demon Overlord. He had 15 generals under his command, and every general was able to conquer a country with their respective armies. That was 500 years ago. But 100 years ago, the people banded together, and with the help of some gods, summoned heroes from another realm. 50 heroes appeared and they in time led the rebellion against the demon overlord. Out of the 15 generals, 6 were killed in battle, and 8 were sealed, along with the demon overlord.

The war took 25 years, and in the end, all 50 heroes died. The last hero, Marcus the Valiant, died standing as he used the last of his life force to activate the seal that defeated the demon overlord. Thereafter, the demon army was beaten back to their own wretched lands, the people divided lands amongst themselves and within 2 decades countries began to be formed, each with their own ruling family and customs. The Kingdom of Lavernia was closest to the demon territory. Being separated from the enemy by a vast treacherous mountain range, they built a stronghold on top of one of the peaks, and heavily guarded the narrow paths that lead to Lavernia. Recently however, there were alot more activity in the demon territory. Where there was peace before, now the demons are more brazen in their attacks, attempting guerrilla style attacks, leaving the most vulnerable villages and settlements in rubble. There was a rumor that one of the generals had managed to break the seal and is attempting to galvanise the remaining demons to free the rest of the generals.

Roland further explained that everyone had a special ability, which could be read using special magical plates. While citizens would show their profession in their plates, warriors and heroes would show their class and specialisation. As an example, Roland showed his. It was a small plate, about the size of a person's palms. His plate read:

Name: Roland Augustus Benjamin.

Rank: Knight Commander

Weapon specialization: Battle axe

He then ordered the one of the soldiers over, and had him hand over plates to everyone.

Kevin stated at his plate. It glowed upon contact with his skin and words appeared as if by magic.

Name: Kevin Lu Ren

Rank: Unknown

Weapon specialisation: unknown

Passive ability: unknown

He stared at it. Besides his name, there was no other information. He looked at his friends and classmates. They were all either excited or ecstatic. They showed each other their plates and talked about their abilities. Benson was the happiest one among them.

"Guys! Look at mine!" he exclaimed as he held out his. It read:

Name: Benson Hamilton

Title: The Courageous

Rank: The One True Hero

Weapon specialisation: Holy Sword Ascalon

Passive: Blessed by Heaven (Passively doubles battle strength)

It was truly impressive indeed. John and Suzie showed theirs next.

Name: Suzanna Windsor

Title: The One Blade

Rank: Valiant General of the Hero

Weapon Specialization: One handed blades

Passive: Twinkle Toes (The ability to move much faster than the average human being of the same caliber.)

Name: Jonathan Summers

Title: The Grandmaster at Arms

Rank: Enforcer Captain

Weapon Specialisation: All

Passive: Warrior's Might (The ability to wield any weapon with one hand)

"It does seem like we have some hope after all," a gentle voice said. Roland immediately kneeled.

"Your Majesty," he greeted. Kevin looked at the man. He was a middle aged person, with a full beard that was greying slightly. He was tall, maybe half a head shorter then Roland, who as by all accounts a behemoth of a men. Kevin had guessed that Roland was at least seven and a half foot tall. The king had a gentle smile, he wore what seemed to be fitting leather clothes and a simple golden crown on his head.

"Heroes, may I present, His Majesty the King of Lavernia, Damian Lucas Aliaskandar. Or as the people of Lavernia call him - Damian the Defender," Roland introduced with pride. The king smiled warmly.

"Welcome to my humble kingdom," he said. "Please, come inside. We will provide you with everything you need."

And so, this was how time passed. Roland had explained that the heroes were still unskilled and needed to be trained in the art of combat. Most of the group have unlocked their skills and passives, but not Kevin. It had already been 3 months since the summoning and while he had improved, he was nowhere near the level of his classmates. Kevin looked at his status plate.

Name: Kevin Lu Ren

Title: Unknown

Rank: unknown

Weapon specialisation: unknown

Passive ability: unknown

As a result, he could feel the distance and mocking from his so-called friends. He kept his head low and trained everyday. Since he did not specialise in any weapon, he asked for a good pair of plated gloves and cleats. For now, he fought using his hands and legs. They had already gone one a few skirmishes, just to get a feel of it. Kevin usually stayed behind the lines, as Roland said they needed to show Benson to instill fear into the demons. They should know that Lavernia had summoned a new champion. Speaking of champions, skills and ranks, Roland had explained that only the exemplary could unlock all the skills and passives straight within summoning. The average would only unlock one feature or two. Kevin was a rare case. No one had ever not been able to unlock even one of the featured information. He told Kevin to just train more. In time, Kevin would unlock his skills.

As the castle bells rang, it snapped Kevin back to reality. He rushed to the castle courtyards. Ringing the castle bells usually means that demons are raiding. Roland, Benson and the rest were already gathered.

"Report from our hawks! The village Merlo is in flames! The batallion stationed there has suffered casualties and requests reinforcements!" Roland read off a piece of paper in his hands. "There is a high level demon sighted amongst the invaders."

Demons were divided by class. There were a few classes. The goblins and ghouls serve as scouts and as cannon fodder most of the time, but they can be very useful in big numbers to overwhelm a soldier. They possess decent strength and are agile, sneaky and insanely hard to control. Then there were beastmen, who were essentially hybrids of men and animals. Horsemen and boarmen are the most common. They are tall muscular demons who has the head of an animal but a humanoid body of giant proportions with some animal characteristics. However there are also sightings of leo-men, and oxmen and others such as reptilemen. Those were more of their infantry and knights. Up the ladder were other branches of demons like succubi and incubbi, who were infiltrators and masters in espionage. There were also demonised animals such as demon wolves, demon boars and such. Those were more calvary and tanks. Rounding the top of the demon food chain were pets of the generals. These were gargantuan animals, who possess immeasurable strength and the intelligence of humans. As an example, one of the generals that was sealed away had a giant snake that was so big it could swallow a horse. With the generals' defeats by death or sealing, most of the demons broke off and became segregated. However, lately it does seems like they are rallying under a very powerful demon. Who it was, was not known.

Kevin and the rest of his classmates were nervous. They never fought a high leveled demon before. Previously they already had enough trouble with oxmen and boarmen. They barely defeated it. A higher level demon was not good news.

Roland has already prepared the horses for all of them. The village was not far away, only forty five minutes if they travelled at full speed.

"As we will need to make haste, we will be bringing mounted units only," Roland said. The battalion of calvary men saluted. "We're leaving!"

With that, the horses took off. Roland in front, Benson and Suzie behind him and the rest of the class and batallion followed. Kevin looked straight ahead as he rode. His eyes were focused straight on and nowhere else. There was a reason. And the reason was going to speak up soon.

"Kevin!" a feminine voice called. Kevin recognizer that voice. It was his ex-girlfriend, Alice. She was a nice girl. She looked cute, with her fiery red hair. She was on the women's swim team, so she was very toned and fit. They dated awhile but Alice always had a problem with guys. She loved them too much. Particularly multiple men. At once, just focusing on her....primitive needs. Kevin ignored her. He had no desire to speak to her after he caught her in that setting. With multiple guys, including Jonathan, skirt hiked up, panties pushed aside, school uniform abruptly ripped and her moaning as she serviced two guys simultaneously, moving in and out of her lower orafaces. In essence, she was a slut. Which was fine, as Kevin didn't judge. The deal breaker was that she told him she was saving herself. That is why he ended things.

"Kevin!" she called, louder this time. He ignored her still, but when she started kicking his leg and his horse, he got really annoyed.

"What is it you want from me, Alice?" he asked, hissing out her name menacingly.

"I wanted a chance to talk," she said. Kevin looked at her with an uninterested expression.

"No," Kevin definitively panned. "There is no reason to talk. There is no feasible topic we can talk about. There is no common ground we can stand on. There is no misunderstanding we have to clear up."

"I thought you loved me," Alice said, her voice sad.

"I may have," Kevin started. "Which is why I was devastated when I found you with John's and some other peoples' dick in you."

The downtrodden look on her face said it all.

"It was a one time mistake."

"Lies," Kevin exclaimed. "You think John and the other guys kept it a secret? No. I heard them talking about how they fucked your every hole multiple times a week."

"Kevin, please," she started. She wanted desperately to apologise. While she had enjoyed the sex with other boys, Kevin was the one she had real feelings for, but the sex just was too good.

"Go to them," he said with finality. "I do not care about you. I do not want to see you. I do not want to even have you close to me. Let them use you as they please. You seem to love it anyhow."

With that, Kevin slowed his horse's pace and went to the end of the batallion. He wanted to be alone.

The journey was smooth and they arrived at their destination. It could only be described as a messy battlefield as hundreds of ghouls and goblins were rampant, attacking soldiers and civilians in the village without prejudice. Oxmen and horsemen were holding off dozens of knights in battle and there were demon wolves and boars running around devouring people.

"Engage!" Roland commanded. Benson and Roland charged into battle, gunning straight first into the strongest demons they could find-the demon wolves, with Suzie and John following suit, engaging the oxmen and horsemen. Merrill followed closely behind. Kevin and the rest of the new comers started engaging the goblins and ghouls.

Kevin pried a goblin off a civilian boy, who was bleeding over but seemed fine nonetheless.

"Go to your parents!" he said as gently but as urgently as he could. The boy noded and took off. Kevin signalled to a dozen soldiers, motioning for them to instead evacuate the civilians. They saluted and started to do as he instructed.

"Bring them outside of the village! Once you're done with this section, evacuate the other sections." Kevin instructed. "The rest of us will keep them off you."

Calling Merlo a village was not doing it justice. It was vast, more like a town than an actual village. Thus it was because of that the battle was still raged on after four intense hours of fighting. The demons were slowly being pushed back, by some miracle. The villagers were evacuated. Although the forces from Lavernia suffered massive casualties as well, but at least they were gaining a foothold in the battle.

Even among the Kevin's class, there have been at least one casualty. The poor sod had not seen the oxmen's club, and as a result, got smacked into a pancake.

But because the reinforcements and the existing batallion in Merlo united together, they were able to push back slowly based on pure numbers alone. Kevin had joined the other soldiers in fighting the oxmen and horsemen, but they were huge. They were at minimum eight feet to ten feet tall and had bulging muscles. A hit could be a life ender.

"PUSH THEM BACK INTO THE ABYSS!!!" Benson encouraged, as he slew goblin after goblin with Ascalon. The demon wolves they were fighting had sustained injuries but were not dead. Roland gave a big roar and swung his battle axe at a horsemen. But the giant effortlessly blocked and parried it. The soldiers followed up immediately with spear thrusts into the demon's sides. While it did not do much in terms of damage, but repeated attacks kept pushing the enemy back. With every step they pushed the demons back, the soldiers were more elated. Victory was in sight! Until they heard a loud roar. It did not sound like any animal they knew of, and judging from the sound of the roar, likely it was huge.... very very huge. The ground started to shake. It was as if there was an earthquake. Kevin and the soldiers tried their best to stay on their feet but most had miserably failed. Suddenly cracks appeared below where they were standing. Benson yelled for everyone to scatter. Everyone reacted was confused and terrified as the ground broke beneath them. A giant creature emerged, mouth wide open. It was ENOURMOUS. It had a mouth full of hundreds of teeth, each as long as Kevin's forearm. The creature looked like a mutated carnivorous worm with its purple colouration and hundreds of centipede like legs attached to its body segments. It looked very much like a giant alien centipede. Benson and most of his classmates were able to dodge because one of the classmates, Liza, was an enchanter. She had summoned a barrier around them. Kevin, however, was not included in the barrier. There was a reason - Liza and Alice were best friends. She believed that Kevin was a loser and did not deserve to dump Alice. So she had not included him in the barrier.

"Liza, you didn't shield Kevin!" Suzie exclaimed.

"I must have missed him somehow," she lied.

"Then let him in," Suzie instructed.

"Not without breaking the barrier," Liza said.

"Forget about him!" John said, earning himself a stern look from Suzie.

"Regrettably, we must abandon him," Benson said with finality. Suzie looked at Kevin and mouthed her apologies.

Kevin muttered a few swears and jumped back as far as he could. The creature still caught him, and but down. He screamed as his left leg and left arm, along with some of his left side of the body, was torn away. Blood splattered all over. All he saw was red. He landed harshly on the ground and the blood began to pool. Bodies of soldiers that were half eaten began to drop from the sky as we. Apparently alot of them did not escape. Benson and his shielded companions landed with a giant thud. The barrier sustained, and they escaped unharmed. Kevin looked at them with hatred in his dying eyes. Suzie looked regretful. She did not dare meet his gaze. Merrill was also the same. John had a large smirk on his face. Benson just looked sad.

The giant had swallowed a quarter of the remaining soldiers in the previous gulp and left the another quarter of the forces rained from the sky as half eaten bodies. One bite took half their forces away. Roland escaped unharmed. But the remaining soldiers began to retreat hastily. Roland, seeing the situation, called for a retreat. They would abandon Merlo. Kevin looked at his friends as they ran back, leaving him to die. The last thing he felt before he passed out was his broken body being moved. Darkness followed after.

Kevin woke up when he felt searing pain on the left side of his body. It took a while to register his senses but he could tell one thing. He was in pain. He smelt burning flesh. He heard a sizzling sound. He screamed as it registered in his brain that his wounds are being forcefully cauterized.

Kevin looked at the direction of the pain, but he realised he could not see. Either they had blindfolded him, or they have gouged out his eyes. It could be his dying body not registering the pain of his eyes being gouged out as it attempts to divert all his attention to the missing left part of his body. Either ways he figured he would not survive. He could hear a gruff voice talking to him and he could make out some questions inquiring about the heroes Roland had summoned but he found that he did not have the energy to reply. The voice repeated the question again, this time more aggressively and when Kevin did not respond, he heard "Cut it off."

He heard a blade being dragged and suddenly felt a sharp pain where his right arm was supposed to be. He could no longer feel his fingers and hand. He let out a silent scream as his face contorted in excruciating pain. Kevin could finally feel himself fading away. He was getting sleepier. It should be the blood loss, he reasoned. It was already a miracle he was not dead yet, but this should be the end of the line. He gave himself to the sweet embrace of death. He never even heard the voice scream as his body erupted in a green light.
