It was a sunny day. The sun was way up in the sky, ready to burn the skin of anyone beneath it.

A black family of four, a mother in her late thirties, a father in his forties, a girl in her early twenties, and also a boy in his late twenties. They were all in a car driving into Gettysburg.

A small city in the United States

They drove and stopped their car in front of an apartment painted white that had beautiful rose flowers at the front and a beautiful golden door. They all jumped out of the car.

                      Amber’s POV

I can’t believe we are moving into a new neighborhood because of me. I got admission into a popular university and we have to leave our hometown to come here.

I carried my luggage from the trunk of the car with my elder brother Daniel. He is about six feet tall with light brown eyes and an oblong-shaped face with a black earring in his ear. He looked at me, giving me a lovely smile that revealed his dimples.

"Lovely, why are you staring at me?" He asked putting the luggage in front of the house.

"Nothing, I was just lost in thought," I muttered. That is what he calls me sometimes.

"Dad, aren’t we going to go in?" I asked, shaking his hand continuously.

"No sweetie, I have to call my friend to bring the keys for us." He replied, putting his phone in his ear with a worried expression.

"Mum, I thought you guys already got the key since we are already here," I asked, looking at my mum. She has long wavy hair and a cute smile curved on her face.

"Darling, things don’t always go as planned, but I assure you, you have nothing to worry about." She assured.

"Dad, I have always told you that I don’t trust that man didn’t he tell you he was already here!" Daniel snapped.

"That is what he told me, but he is not picking up." He replied. looking at his phone continuously.

I put down my luggage and sat on it, staring at the sky. The sun burned my eyes. I looked down immediately.

"Gosh! Why do we have to move today of all days when it is so sunny?" I lamented.

"Don’t forget, school is starting tomorrow." My mum beamed, resting in the car. while Daniel just started pacing.

We waited there for about 30 minutes.

If we were white, I am sure we would be toasted in the sun by now, I reasoned as my dad's friend, Mr. Martin, approached us. He was also black. Like us, he was carrying a briefcase.

He walked up to my dad with a serious look on his face.

"What’s wrong with you? What took you so long?" My dad asked, angrily.

"I was on my way here when I received a call from the owner of the house. He said he would like to give the house to a white family instead." Mr. Martin said.
