88 Gaining the Ancient Gears

"I found one," Emile said to Severn.

Emile continued his search. These gears were tiny and hidden underneath other objects.

Emile didn't want to move the objects around since there were guards walking around and examining the locations. He could only look at the objects.

Emile couldn't touch the objects.

The guards yelled at him for trying to touch the objects. These guards were all level 25, so they were challenging to face.

Emile wouldn't be able to fight them since they were high leveled.

These guards could kill him in one hit.

Emile needed to be sneaky when taking the gears. He continued searching for gears.

After an hour of searching, they had spotted ten ancient gears. Severn found six while Emile found four.

Emile found a map of the graveyard. He identified the locations where they found the gears.

Emile and Severn grouped up near the entrance. They thought of the best route to get all the gears. They planned the swiftest way of getting all the gears and teleporting out. Emile gave Severn a Space Gem.

From the entrance, they walked to the gear that Severn found. Emile asked Severn to distract the guards.

"Excuse me, sir. Do you know any interesting location in the sacred golem graveyard?" Severn spoke in a polite tone.

"The entire graveyard is interesting," the guard said.

"What do you find the most interesting," Severn asked.

"If you walk in that direction for a few minutes, you'll see a cool-looking place," the guard said. He was bored with standing around.

"Isn't the place over there even better," Severn pointed at a direction.

The guard looked where he was pointing.

"I guess that place is goo-"

Severn chopped at the back of the neck with his hand. The guard fell unconscious. He wiped his hand on his shirt before walking to Emile.

"The plan wasn't to make the guards unconscious," Emile said with a facepalm.

"Oh... that's my way of distracting them. If they're not awake, then they can't see the theft," Severn said.

"We better go quick," Emile said. They had to move quickly since the other guards would notice the unconscious guards.

They walked to the next gear location.

Severn distracted the guards, then knocked them unconscious. He was extremely good at asking for help. The guards believed that he wanted their opinion. When they turned around, he would launch a swift chop at the back of the neck.

They used this method for the first eight ancient gears. Other guards started to notice the unconscious guards.

They called for backup and arranged a lockdown on the location. They began suspecting everyone who was in the graveyard for attacking the guards.

"Halt," the guard said to the approaching Severn.

Severn stopped.

"I wanted to ask about your opinion on good locations in the golem graveyard," Severn said as he scratched his head.

"Someone is attacking the guards, so for my safety please don't come closer," the guard said.

"Who would attack the guards," Severn said with surprise.

"Probably a crazy guy," the guard said.

"Yeah, only crazy people would have the guts to attack the guards in such a location," Severn agreed with the guard.

"I like you. You can find a good location if you walk that way," the guard said.

"Sorry. I can't see your fingers since I have a short range vision. I can't tell which direction you're pointing to. Can I come closer?" Severn asked.

"Sure," the guard said. The guard had let down his guard.

"Is it that direction," Severn pointed with his fingers.

"Ye-"

Severn chopped the back of the neck once more. Emile collected the gear after the guard fainted.

They moved to the final location with a gear. It was the first location that Emile had found.

Severn walked to a guard.

The guard took out a sword.

"Halt. Do not step a foot closer. Put your hand behind your head and turn around." The guard shouted quickly.

Tricking him would be challenging.

Severn followed his instructions.

"Stay there until I receive further instructions," the guard said.

"Does that mean I can't look at all the gorgeous locations with the fallen golems?" Severn said with a disappointed tone.

"You can tour around after we find out who attacked the guards," the guard replied.

They stood there doing nothing. The guard was familiar with doing nothing, so he didn't feel bored.

"Is the coast clear," Emile asked.

"No. The guard is doing a good job; he's guarding the location." Severn wrote. He could hold a conversation using the link he had with Emile.

Being a knight allowed him to talk to Emile no matter the distance or the circumstances.

"Do I need to do something," Emile said.

"No. I got this." Severn said.

"Sir, how many people are a normal amount for this graveyard?" Severn asked.

"A few hundred visitors each day," the guard said.

"Wow. Can I leave? I want to discover other locations," Severn said.

"No. I have to keep you here. It was an order," the guard said.

"Then will you also keep the guy who's right there," Severn moved his arm and pointed at a direction. The guard followed his finger and looked at the direction.

"I don't see any-"

Severn used the opportunity to attack the guard at the back of the neck. The guard stopped paying attention to Severn. This caused Severn to attack him while distracted.

"The coast is clear," Severn said to Emile.

Emile picked up the last ancient gear and activated a Space Gem.

Severn also activated his Space Gem.

They both teleported back to White Star City.

"All right. Mission successful." Emile said.

"Good job," Emile said. He handed Severn 20 silver coins. He used the money to get back on the good side of Severn.

'Maybe I misjudged him," Severn thought. Severn didn't know Emile's thoughts if he did, then his favorability would have decreased.

[Severn's favorability has increased to 65]

Severn accepted the coins. He didn't need it since he was the mayor's son. He had wealth.

"How do you grow stronger," Emile asked Severn.

"Well, I fight mobs each and every day. I use a lot of energy when I fight, but with enough repetition, I increased my stats one by one." Severn said.

"Oh... do you know why your body is weak," Emile asked. Having a stronger companion was always a good thing.

"No. I was born weak. I nearly died when I was first born," Severn said.

"Oh. I'll try to cure your bodies ailments," Emile said.

"Thanks," Severn said.

"I'll upgrade my equipment, so you're free to do anything you want," Emile said. It was time for him to upgrade his ring. Severn didn't have any reason to stay, so he went off to do his business.

To upgrade the ring, he needed ten ancient gears and 100 silver coins. Emile took out the ring and activated it.

[Would you like to upgrade the ring?]

Emile selected yes. The game took away the ten ancient gears and the 100 silver coins. Emile was slowly losing his money.

He lost half of a gold coin on space gems and other items. Money was something he needed.

Emile identified the ring after the upgrade.
