151 A Contract with the Mayor

The party attacked and killed the mobs for two hours.

Emile left his worries behind him.

There was no point in him worrying about Furious Striker. All Emile could do was wait and see what actions Furious Striker would accomplish.

The party walked back towards the metallic looking city. It still boggled their minds; who or what ideas led to the city taking such a drastic change.

Whoever thought of the idea was a big dreamer with hopes that reached for the stars. They put their plan into motion, and it was a huge success. People came into the city to see the brand new look.

"Let's go see if the mayor will trade items or other stuff for the Triple Elemental Orb," Emile said as they walked into the city.

"I have a feeling that he won't give up his collection so easily," Scarlet Sunset said.

"Why's that?" Emile replied.

Scarlet Sunset replied to Emile'e question.

"People don't like to give anything away from their collection since, well, it's their collection. They collect those items meaning they want more of those items. Giving away the item is the opposite of a collector. Few collectors buy items to resell them for more. They're not even collectors at that point," Scarlet Sunset said as they grew nearer to the tower.

"Makes sense," Emile replied.

Scarlet Sunset nodded her head as they enjoyed the silence of their walk. The silence only lasted briefly before Nimble Rod spoke.

"Do you think he'll sell us the item or make us do a quest for the item?"

FBS Fulcron replied to Nimble Rod's question,

"It's always a quest. I don't think he'll hand the item over to us for some measly gold coins. It wouldn't make sense."

"It might not be a quest," Nimble Rod said with a shrug.

The party entered the tower after a few more back and forth between the two opinions.

Nimble Rod walked forward towards the lady at the reception desk.

"I have an appointment with the mayor," Nimble Rod said. He practiced these words in his mind when they were walking to the tower. Nimble Rod had the habit to overthink his words and phrases causing him to not speak at the correct time or reply late.

For the first few days, they knew Nimble Rod for, the party experienced Nimble Rod speaking about past topics or replying after an extended time period. As time moved forward, and he spent an increasingly more amount time with the party causing him to become accustomed to the group and speak without overthinking it.

Another attempt at holding a conversation took place.

"In four minutes, you may take the elevator to the top floor and speak with the mayor for 10 minutes. You can leave early if you wish to leave." the lady said.

"Okay," Nimble Rod said. They sat in the lounge and talked about random things in their life.

Soon, the lady called them up to take the elevator to the top floor. The party followed the instructions and reached the top floor. The elevator door opened,

These people walked into the elevator which had Emile and the other party members.

Emile and the party walked out of the elevator. Emile held the doors in case someone pressed the button quickly. Luckily, nothing happened.

The party walked up to the mayor and FBS Fulcron took over the conversations. FBS Fulcron was complaining about how he never got to interact with the high-ranking people, so the party let him do the talking.

The mayor had a brown mustache. He wore a cowboy hat which was an interesting accessory for someone to wear in an office. His desk had a little toy flower on it. He also had post-it notes and pens.

"Hey, Mr. Mayor how's your day been going!"

"My day is great, I had some coffee and now I'm hyper, how about yours?" The mayor replied with a friendly expression.

"I'm doing fantastic. Do you have any Triple Elemental Orbs," FBS Fulcron said with some hint of excitement. He went straight to the point without beating around the bush.

"I do," the mayor nodded his head. He wanted to see where this conversation was leading.

"Can we get one from you!" FBS Fulcron said. He spoke with a passion for the item to persuade the mayor to give him the item for free.

"Sure."

"You're just going to give it to us without another thought?" FBS Fulcron said with some hint of shock. He wasn't expecting this turn of events. He was hoping that a quest would appear and he would be proven correct.

"There's more to it. You can have one orb for free, but in exchange I want you to help my city out whenever we are in danger," the mayor said.

"Are you scared of people destroying your city?" FBS Fulcron asked. He thought this was only a Sun Point region problem.

"Isn't every city in Sun Point Region facing the same dilemma as us. You're a part of Sun Point Region, so understand the neighboring cities," the mayor replied with a sigh.

"I didn't know this city was in our region?" FBS Fulcron messaged the party.

"Neither did I. I thought it was a normal city located somewhere far, far away in a different region," Emile messaged in the party chat with a crying-laughing emoji.

"We should pay attention to our cities... ahh who am I kidding. I don't want to memorize other cities and their locations," FBS Fulcron wrote in the party chat.

"How do you know we're from the Sun Point region?" Emile asked the mayor with curiosity.

"Wild guess. I always guess the same answer, and sometimes it works. They think I'm reading their mind, but in actuality, it was just a guess," the mayor said with a serious tone. He paused.

"Keep that a secret from anyone you meet," the mayor said with a laugh. He wasn't good at being serious for long periods of time.

"All right, sir. My mouth will not speak a word about this from now on," Emile said with a laugh. He liked interacting with simple people. He enjoyed the mayor's humor as well.

"I'm going to write a contract for that promise since I don't trust people easily," the mayor said as he quickly drafted up a contract.

"Sign there," the mayor said.

Emile read through the contract. He didn't notice any sticky points about the contract. Sticky points being areas with high-level vocabulary that an average person wouldn't know most of the time.

The only obligation he had, was to show up with his party whenever the city was in danger. Emile handed out the contract to his party. He wanted them to read through it and give feedback.

"It's a solid contract with no noticeable loopholes," Scarlet Sunset said.

"I see nothing weird about it," Flower Queen said. They passed the paper around. Severn also had time to read through it. He technically wasn't a part of the party meaning that the contract wouldn't work on him.

Severn didn't mention it since it would benefit them more if one person could stick back during those emergency times.

"What happens if we break the contract?" Emile asked with curiosity. He wouldn't go test it out, but he wanted to know the repercussions.

"Well, the god gives out punishments," the mayor said. The god of the word was the system meaning that the system would deal out punishments to contract breakers.

"How severe are these punishments?" Emile asked.

"You could lose a few levels or lose some of your best equipment. Or be placed in jail where you have to wait a certain amount of time before you are free," the mayor replied.

"Woah those are kinda harsh punishments," Nimble Rod exclaimed.

The party signed the contract and agreed to to the terms.
