1 A prologue, like any prologue, but maybe slightly worst than average.

Sounds of explosions, gunfire and laser fire ring out across a city under siege. Looking from above, one can see the devastation wrought upon it by the collateral damage of the two armies clashing in the city. Focusing in on one of many scenes of trading in gunfire and laserfire, we find our main protagonist in his na- ahem. I mean, we find our main protagonist currently in an ambush, with plenty of dead bodies around him. To make things a little clear, the protagonist is currently on the side defending the city. Onto his viewpoint.

*FPOV*

My name's Valanis McSmith. Currently lieutenant of the Hellfire 1st Elite Squad, also currently the only remaining member alive in the squad. Why? Well, because we got our asses ambushed. HQ received intel on a number of positions of enemy forward operating bases, and sent out orders for the E-Squads to take them out.

Unfortunately, it seems that either there was a mole in our ranks, or the enemy intentionally let out the info in what seems to be an attempt at ridding them of the largest thorns in their side, the E-Squads. Now, E-Squads are called that only because we are in the top 1% of the entire military in 1 or more fields of operation, be it marksmanship, scouting, electronic warfare, etc. So it speaks a lot of the importance we have to both sides of the current conflict, be it of good or bas intentions. I would have loved to yell at the guy in the support division about this, but currently there seemed to be communication interference stopping that. Guess I'll have to try my hardest

Currently, I am hiding behind counter of an unfortunate coffeeshop that has currently been reduced to rubble, debris and scorch marks from all the bullets and lasers currently being fired at my direction.

'So there's about 30 of the bastards outside huh, guess I'll have to hope this new grenade works wonders.'

As soon as I finished that thought, I removed the grenade from my belt, trying to recall the method of operation.

'Let's see...the parts on activation are the same...ah, yes, so its a concussive-type mixed with blinding light. Interesting, as long as I don't stare at it, I should be fine.'

As soon as I noticed a lull in the continuous hail of fire, I tossed the grenade over in their direction. When it went off, I popped out of cover with my laser rifle on full-auto repeater mode and started raining sweet laser death on those I could see. Prioritising the ones who were recovering first and beginning to take aim at me, I managed to down a full 10 of them before they managed to dodge into cover, while the rifle's battery ran empty at the same time.

Running forward to a pillar 3 metres ahead and to my left in order to get a better chance of hitting them with my pistol, I swapped to it and fired some potshots before reaching the pillar. Slamming my back against it, the hostiles finally recovered enough to start firing at me, chipping off some concrete and burning what was left of the paint.

Swiftly and adeptly reloading the laser rifle's battery, I tossed the empty battery at them. As soon as they saw it flying out, they panicked after remembering what happened after they ignored the last thing that flew at them, and dove into what cover they could get on a city street.

Using this chance, I ran up to the closest one and fire the rifle at his head point blank, then proceeded to hide behind a tree while keeping up the fire at them, taking down another 3 before I had to hide again as they realised the mistake and opened fire on me again. Now that they only had 6 left, one of them began to order the remaining hostiles to being a retreat, with a couple laying down suppressive fire to cover the rest.

'Are they finally retreating? Thank the gods, this was such a pain in the ass, those persistent bastards.'

"T- *crackle* thi- *crackle* ...this is support engineer of main base support division, does Elite Squad Hellfire copy? Over."

'Ah shit, the interference is gone now?'

"This is Lieutenant Valanis of Hellfire Squad, it seems like communication interference finally went down."

"Great, what the hell happened over there Lt?"

"We were ambushed om the way to mission site, seems like there was a either a mole in our ranks, or they deliberately let it out."

"Ah shit, are there any survivors on your end?"

"No, unfortunately I'm the only one left alive."

"Report your current location, and then return to base."

"Cofë Street, Commercial District of Cahpeetale City. Map coordinates, 0255059."

"Roger, come on home."

"Wouldn't be happ-"

*boom*

--------

...Huh? Did I die? Looking around, it seems like I did. White room with no features, with my body currently free of anything really. No injuries, no anything. No seriously, not even clothes, or my uniform. Then, I heard the most heavenly, soft as the softest material feminine voice speak out, although it's owner sounded a little flustered.

"A-ah, it seems like I messed up the clothes function while bringing your soul here."

I turned around to look at the voice, and good gods if femme fatale was already embodied, she'd be one step higher. At least in my books, but I'm sure no guy would disagree with me on this.

Her figure, so voluptuous, with the perfect proportions in all the right places, making a perfect hourglass figure.

Her hair, a bright, vibrant and fiery autumn red, with eyes that matched. Those eyes of hers also look so deep, to the point of being mesmerising. She also had long eyelashes that seemed to curl naturally away from her vision, as if unworthy of being viewed.

Her skin, so fair it even makes pure snow look gray, but it didn't look sickly pale. No, it sheened with youth, and looked so supple to the touch. Perfect, thick, kissable red lips, with perfect white teeth to match.

Okay, I got carried away, but you get the point.

"Hello? Are you still there?"

"A-ah, yes. By the way, can I ask, what is your name?"

"Right, but as the person who asked, you must give me yours first, no?"

"Well, I guess so. My name is Valanis McSmith."

"Viola, Goddess of Death and Fate."

Pfft.

I spurted a bit of spit in an attempt not to show my surprise, which obviously didn't work.

"Just because I am the Goddess of Death and Fate doesn't mean I need to be all dark and wear, what do you call it? Ah, gothic clothes."

"I'm sorry, but it's just so surprising. You look more like a Goddess of War or Fire than anything."

She ignored me and moved on to another topic, which seemed to be the main reason we were here in the first place. "Anyways, I brought you here to tell you that you have been chosen to have a chance at reincarnation into a world of your choice."

"Oh really?"

"Nah, it's already chosen for you. You only get to choose what you want, as ling as it isn't too overbearing."

"Oh. What world is it going to be like anyway?"

"A world much like yours, except it's going to experience a change about a year after you turn 15. Instead of going down the VR route like your world, it'll experience the changes of what was depicted in one of the VR games you played before you went off to fight."

"You could have just said 16. Also, that sounds like hell."

"You will be born and orphaned to allow you time to train. Don' worry about adoptive parents and orphanages, unless you don't want to be lonely. Also, yeah but the author god wanted more words."

"What?"

"Nevermind, have you made up your mind yet?"

I had to ask her to let me think a bit on what I wanted.

"...I want..."
