1 Special

Her name is Alissa. A half-vampire who just changed. Not a good day for her, all the same. Days in the house for fear of sunlight, more precisely that's not what she was really afraid of.

How can a half be afraid of the sun?

That's just an excuse Alissa is resistant to sunlight. Unlike the two foster parents who have to use witch magic to be able to withstand the sun.

Alissa is more afraid if she attacks humans unconsciously. Some time ago, someone visited her house as a resident of a new complex. At that moment Alissa felt thirsty so she immediately pounced and sucked her blood. Luckily Kyle was there or the human would have died at Alissa's hands.

Alissa's sense of smell is much sharper than ordinary vampires. She is even stronger and can be eviler than the average vampire. Only her human heart keeps her human nature and Alissa has all the human emotions. She could be called a human, could also be called a vampire because she was both.

Even any vampire will smell the human scent in her body that dominates the vampire scent. Alissa doesn't know whether it's an advantage or a disadvantage, for her it's a curse.

After languishing in the house for several months of not appearing to the world, today was the time to show up.

She gets an invitation to a school that combines humans and vampires. But no one knows about the existence of vampires around them because vampires are very similar to humans in general.

"Tomorrow is your first day, are you ready?" Kylie tried to cheer up a gloomy-looking Alissa. Alissa's control isn't good and still needs guidance.

"Does it have to be? I mean, I can leave once I can control myself. I don't know what if I pull out my fangs in the middle of school and—"

Kylie interrupted, "Don't over-focus on the negatives. I know your problem, but you're not just sitting around getting used to it. You don't even remember how to socialize, all your memories of humans are gone."

"I know." Alissa shrugged in resignation.

"That's why you have to start over." Kylie stroked Alissa's blonde hair affectionately. Although he has not taken care of Alissa since childhood, she already considers Alissa her biological daughter.

Alissa nodded awkwardly and got up from the sofa. "I'll go."

It was late, so Alissa decided to sleep. Although in general vampires don't need sleep, Alissa doesn't know what to do, so she chooses to sleep like a human.

This morning, Alissa is getting ready to go to school. Robby drove her to the gate in the car and left after saying goodbye. There was only Alissa alone in a strange place... It didn't seem entirely foreign. Somehow Alissa felt familiar and had been here before, maybe that was her feeling when she was still a forgotten human.

Alissa went inside, paying attention to every detail of the school that looked luxurious and certainly familiar to Alissa. Even Alissa can just guess where there is a teacher's room, toilet, library, and other places. This is indeed strange, especially after seeing the humans who look sweet to Alissa. This is a tough test. It's tougher than a math test.

"Okay, Alissa. You can do it." Alissa took a deep breath and passed the humans which made Alissa forced to hold her breath.

Whether it was just Alissa's feelings or not, she felt the stares of the students were quite strange. Alissa doesn't know for sure if she could read minds and she has been in the spotlight here.

Along the way to the administration room, many strange gazes passed by him. Whether it's from a vampire or a human, that certainly makes Alissa uncomfortable. What's so special about Alissa?

Entering the administration room to report as a new student, Alissa felt calmer now. Although there were some humans, not as many as before and it was quite better than outside.

"Your name?" The administrative woman asked to collect data.

"Alissa Anderson."

The bespectacled woman wrote back. Her hand continued to move over another paper then handed it to Alissa. "Here's the class schedule, locker numbers, and a school map. Have a nice day." Even though she spoke like that, her tone still sounded busy. Alissa agreed and left the administration room.

There's nothing else to do. Alissa went to her locker and put her things in then closed it again.

"Hey, our lockers are neighbors. Some time ago the locker owner moved and my locker was lonely without any friends." The girl spoke with a chuckle.

"Then I'll be your new locker friend," Alissa replied with an awkward smile. Alissa could smell the vampire's scent in this girl's body. It made her very grateful because the one who greeted her first was a vampire. Even though the first creatures she met were humans.

"I'm Claudia, it's my first time greeting someone during my school days. You could say they think I'm bad for ignoring everyone."

"Then you approached me," Alissa continued.

"That's because I feel you are different. Even though my sense of smell isn't as sharp as yours, I still know someone's brain."

"That's why you avoided them." Alisa understands. Claudia has the ability that Alissa wants to have.

Claudia nodded. "Nothing to rely on exactly," she said. "Are you a half-vampire?"

Alissa hesitated for a moment if she was going to admit it, but even though she didn't admit it still caught on. So Alissa decided to nod.

"I see," Claudia muttered.

"You know something? They're looking at me like I'm an alien from another planet. I don't understand so I want to read their minds."

"Vampires are curious about you because your blood is special. Sometimes being special is very troublesome, you have to be prepared for that. Then those humans can certainly feel how stressful it is when around you. Even though vampires think it's normal, but not with humans."

"Why?"

Claudia thought for a moment. "How many humans did you kill?"

Hearing that question made Alissa anxious again. She didn't even know how many humans had fallen victim to her thirst and luckily they didn't die.

"So far, I haven't killed. Every time I see a human I can't control myself and Kylie always stops me from getting killed by me. I don't know how much."

Claudia nodded in understanding. "So you're the new vampire. Since when?"

"A half years ago."

"I even had to adjust over the years. You've gotten better. What about abilities?"

Alissa fell silent again. All this time he had never tried her strength so she didn't know what her abilities were.

"Which in fairness, you are the new vampire. One day, you'll find out." Claudia answered Alissa's doubts by reading her mind.

Alissa nodded in agreement then glanced at her watch. "Class is starting. I have to go."

"Which class are you in?"

"History."

Claudia chuckled. "Unfortunately I'm geometry. Bye!"

They finally separated. Alissa was walking towards history class just as the bell rang.

The students flocked to their respective classes, including Alissa, until they finally arrived at the class. Master was already there as everyone hurriedly sat down.

Alissa entered along with a female teacher with glasses and asked Alissa to introduce herself in front.

"My name... Alissa Anderson," Alissa felt like the kids on tv introducing themselves in front of the class like this. She just hoped she wouldn't have to meet like this in the next class.

"Sit down next to Mr. Smith." The History teacher-directed Alissa to a table where there was a handsome, pale young man who looked cold. However, his blue eyes looked at Alissa as if Alissa was the most guilty person in the world. It wasn't what Alissa wanted to be here.

Alissa awkwardly walked over. Many different pairs of eyes were directed at Alissa with various meanings and of course, made Alissa uncomfortable. Whether it was because of Alissa's presence or the young man, the point was that Alissa didn't understand. It wasn't Claudia who knew people's thoughts.

Sitting in the corner next to a cold man named Michael who is no longer looking at Alissa but at the table. Alissa didn't glance at him, being next to Michael made her feel a pressure that scared her.

This Michael was a vampire, Alissa had never felt this pressured when dealing with any vampire before. Is Michael a different kind of vampire?

"There's no need to feel pressured." Michael finally spoke but his gaze remained on the table as if he was only talking to himself.

Alissa nodded awkwardly and took the books and stationery out to the table. After Michael said that, Alissa was no longer depressed. For some reason, Alissa felt familiar but didn't have any memories of him.

"Newborn?" Michael's gaze remained on the book as if paying attention to the teacher's explanation.

"6 months. That's long enough."

"You think so. But the average new vampire takes longer."

"Maybe I'm lucky," said Alissa with a shrug and started writing notes. "You can't read minds, right?"

"Have you met the 'mind reader'?"

"I thought you could read minds because earlier...." Alissa didn't continue her sentence because maybe Michael understood.

"I just know," Michael answered curtly.

Alissa felt normal now, not like before. Only, Alissa felt someone watching her from behind. Alissa turned her head slightly, to find the figure of a woman who had been watching her suddenly raised an eyebrow high.

"Leave it. Don't go near her."

Alissa turned her face towards Michael. Her gaze was questioning. "Why?"

"You don't know what she can do."

Alissa returned to her book. Don't know what made Michael warn her, is it true that Claudia said that Alissa was special? So what's the deal with that woman?
