A New Teacher

Anton watched as the freshmen held their excitement at bay. The nervousness in the air was almost tangible. He had all their attention focused on him. Waiting to be told they could bind the stone.

"Any of you who don't know how to use the stone or summon your grimoires to raise your hands now," Anton asked. As expected about half the kids there raised their hands. The kids that raised their hands were either from lowborn families or their parents did not bother to teach them anything. He figured that it was the latter. He too was never taught anything of worth till the year prior.

It was a dumb tradition to not teach the kids about being highborn until they were sent to the proper school. Anton could not help but scoff at all the stupid traditions a highborn prided themselves on. He, after all, was born into a normal family and he had a hard time thinking of them as lowborn.

Anton with a wave of his hand summoned his grimoire and said. "Well, call your books out, let us see them. Glen will help those who don't know how." He then nodded to his team as they started to make their round inspecting the freshmen' grimoires. As that happened he continued to do his part.

"All grimoires can absorb the energy that surrounds us and the stone once placed on its cover will be absorbed by the grimoire. I'll not bother to explain the way as you will take classes on the art of making said stones. Anyways you just have to watch your Grimoire. The rest will automatically happen. Well, it should automatically happen. For those who fail to acquire a summons, no worries just stand to the side and Mr. Liberal will come and pick you up." Anton finished his speech.

Rapidly the kids did as they were instructed to do. Who did not want to gain an extra ability or cool pet? Kaden was no exception. He was confident that he could make a contract a second time. Soon the platform was engulfed by a bright white light as the hundred-odd kids all absorbed their stones into their grimoires.

Kaden just stood there with a pondering look on his face as he saw that he did not get to contract a second summons. He was positive that it was going to be super easy for him.

He could feel the energy that was absorbed by his book but in the end, it was not enough. The amount of natural energy was just a small drop of water. Compared to the emerald crystal his mother and Gigi had gifted him, the stone was truly lacking.

He was not the only one that failed, to his shock Hinata, Ash, Jason, Bisma, and two other kids he did not know all seem to have failed to make a contract. The four he knew had a 'I don't care look' on their faces. The other two seemed to think that they had lost their souls and looked very depressed.

Baby creatures of all types could be seen hovering around the rest of the kids. There were baby bears, lions, and tigers. Animals of all kinds. The insects that were summoned were large bugs the same size as the other baby animals. Some of the smaller animals like frogs, rodents, and foxes were also oversized for being babies.

Kaden figured that summoned animals grew much bigger than their earth counterparts. He filed his observation as something worth researching for later. He did not panic about not being able to make a new contract. The energy he found in the stone was an indicator he and his friends had passed the test. The energy in the stones just was not enough to summon any strong creatures.

"Alright, good job everybody," Anton said, paying close attention to the seven students who failed to make a contract. Either they had special grimoires or the weakest creatures of their grimoire worlds were too strong to be summoned by the stone. All Anton knew was those seven were going to one day take his team role. He was excited at the thought.

"Everybody that has just managed to make a new contract board the carpets that Anton had summoned earlier," Terra ordered out, not waiting for Anton. Glen again nodded his head and said "Hm" before standing in front of the carpet meant for the boys.

Anton just rolled his eyes at his team's antics. He was used to them. Quickly both the girls and boys minus the seven were loaded and shipped off to the Edensburg campus. The seven were forced to wait on Mr. Liberal to appear.

Kaden looked at the other six with a smile not wanting to say anything but give them some encouragement. He figured his four friends also picked up clues and the lies that were told. He had an idea that the teacher in charge never truly left. (Just what is that man waiting for?) Kaden could not help wondering.

Thirty minutes later the man in question showed up. He was a tall lean man with fiery red hair. He kept it cropped short on the sides but the top was long and it seemed to wave like a lite match. He was dressed in an all-black business suit. The tie, vest, and shirt were also all black. His eyes were covered with dark round sunglasses. He seemed to like walking with his hands in his pockets.

All seven could not help but think one thing. This man was weird. He appeared to not care what they thought of him as he lazily walked to where they were sitting.

"Yo, so from this day forth you're part of the Elite Freshman Class." He yawned and stretched his arms.

"M. Ash Evangeline, Hinata Minamoto, Kaden P. Flanagan, Jason Muller, Bisma Obi, Tommy T. Tom, and Bruce Cambel." the man listed off in a monotone voice. He threw a coin at each person in order of his listing.

"That's proof of your Elite status. It gives you a 75% discount that other students would kill to have so don't lose it." He added as he then quickly turned to leave. As he reached the exit he turned back and said. "Well what are you waiting for," he said in his bord tone as he waved them to follow him.

(Definitely another weirdo.) Kaden thought. For some reason, he had yet to meet a normal person that was a summoner. Eccentrics the whole lot of them including his parents.

The group of seven was left with little choice but to follow the man they assumed was named Mr. Liberal. He did not even bother to introduce himself. Kaden was sure that Mr. Liberal was super lazy or just plain crazy.

"Mr. Liberal-Sama, hm that is your name, right? I was wondering where you are taking us? It's in a different direction from the other students." Hinata could not take not knowing what was going on so she bravely asked.

The man in question stopped his march and turned to look at the girl. "I guess it was rude of me not to state my name but it's not Mr. Liberal. That dude is a total jackass." He replied in an irritated tone. "He dumped you, kids, on me at the last second. Saying something about running into a black cat that was his type. He just had to chase after it." the man shook his head in disgust.

"OK then listen up. Names Jet, No Sama, San, Kun, or any other honorifics just plan Jet. Teacher of Alchemy and Runic Arts. Two classes that Elites like you are required to take. Now just hush up and follow me. We are pressed for time." Jet said before returning to the pace he set earlier.

Kaden could not help but be excited at the prospect of learning both Alchemy and Runic Arts, both defied logic. Alchemy could make potions and transmute the elements. Runic arts could be used to create all kinds of useful items. The best example was the summoning stones they were given earlier. The other six kids could not help but be excited too.

An hour of walking had passed by and the group was now in front of what looked like a school bus. The thing that set this school bus apart was the lack of wheels. "Alright, now that we are out of the space dock we can use this bus to go the rest of the way." Jet said.

"Hmm, Teacher, why did we not just use that flying carpet thing like the others," asked Tom. He was not used to walking so much and was on the chubby side. Walking for over an hour was past his limits. He could not understand why those other kids got treated better.

"Hump, those brats wasted a grade B flying talisman in the spaceport just wait till the authorities find out. Even with their 75% discount, the fine is going to be quite high." Jet answered with a smile.

Tom was not sure how to react to that answer. For one he did not know that they had broken any rules with those carpets. Second, he had no clue what a grade B flying talisman represented.

"Anyways I think that walk did you a little bit of good. Maria is going to be the one training you bunch, especially you boy." Jet said with a toothy grin. Tom and the others could not help but shiver at his smiling face. Just who the hell is Maria was one question they all shared at the moment.

"Anyways with this bus, we will get to the opening ceremony right on time. That old baster can't complain about me then." Jet said. He was certain that he would finish his assignment on time.
