Falling

"Thalia! Thalia help us!" Eleonora screams looking at the magicians heroes behind.

Steve keeps on the offensive to keep me from moving too much and Eleonora keeps her magic attacks to block mine and deal some damage or give support to Steve.

I don't know what I just did. Lena who looked directly into my eyes suddenly lost strength and fell. When this happen I felt magic concentrated in my eyes but I don't know why or what it exactly did. If it was me, and most probably it was me, then I did so unconsciously. For a moment I felt another presence inside me. Another me. But that can't be.

Or maybe it is. After all I don't even know if this is my body.

"What happened?" Ask the heroine who came from the back.

"Thalia Lena is unconscious please help her."

"Understood."

Thalia is not just looking after Lena but also attacking demons on the sides. Is quite amazing how she manage that.

The demons around are fighting with such fervour and power that the heroes can but defend against them.

We manage to put them on the defensive. We own the initiative. Even so the heroes aren't being pushed back. The human army that was pushed back from the breach on the wall is now regaining the terrain and it won't be long till they can help the heroes out of this deadlock.

'How is the battle going on the other places?'

'We are currently defending the wall successfully everywhere else but the human are still able to make some advances. I don't know how it will go on the long run sir.

The humans should eventually stop the assault. We should be able to resist this day. The human army advance is slow and I would say that they won't be able to break through the wall before at least a day. We should be able to manage if we keep this going like now.'

'I see...'

Then I will lose. The last reserve force we have is not enough to deal with this situation. We won't be able to stop the advance at this place. This wall is doom to fall.

'Prepare for a general retreat.'

Well at least I am going to make they suffer for this. I can't just give them a wall for free.

I got just a nice surprise for them and now it is the best time to act.

I move back creating some distance between the heroes and me. Steve doesn't follow but instead remains close to the other three. He is defending them since Lena is still down. Eleonora on the other hand is attacking me quite furiously.

I just defend against Eleonora's attacks while gathering a huge amount of energy. Seeing this they become nervous.

"Steve we must do something I can't get to him alone like this!"

"I will help you too!"

"I will go then please take care of Lena."

I suppose having me gathering so much magic in front of them is quite nerve-wracking. But I can't be interrupted just yet.

Earth magic efficiently blocks Eleonora and now Thalia's attacks while also creating obstacles on Steve's way. Steve runs to stop me while avoiding all the obstacles that that I create along his path.

He is way faster than I thought. There's no choice. I must do with what I have.

'Leave the walls!'

Fire magic combined with earth magic to create further destruction.

The magic I gathered quickly expands throughout the entire wall mixing itself with the magic reinforcing the walls, which is necessary to not be destroyed by enemy's magic. The gathered magic power now acts and does the opposite of what the previous magic was doing.

The walls explode forward with such a force one can only think of it as a volcanic eruption. It really isn't far from it since the high heat created by the explosion produced molten rock where the walls once were. Not much can be seen of what happened to the human army since clouds of debris is all around.

The shocked heroes can't react on time. The demons once defending this place are all retreating. I run back to fight the heroes engaged on a melee fight against my demons.

Steve had come to a stop as soon as the explosion happened and instead of following me he chose to stay behind. The two heroines attacking previously also stopped and are now trying to help those behind them.

The few demons left to stop the two heroes in front didn't left them time to understand what happened. They are fighting vigorously trying to free themselves of the demons assault. They have been able to keep their position just fine but the demons did prevent them from going anywhere else practically pinning them down on their place.

I raise my sword and charge at them. Since they were surrounded by my demons they are looking all around for incoming attacks so a surprise attack from behind is impossible. Even so the speed at which I close the distance between us is so great they barely manage to defend once they noticed my incoming attack.

The sword clash and the heroes are push back. What followed were a series of attacks they struggle to keep up with. Small cut start appearing all around their bodies with every single swim of my sword. This went on until every demon had retreated.

Glancing behind me I can see the other heroes making their way here and behind them the human army is also crossing through the breach. On some places they are solidifying the rocks creating bridges to cross where the walls once were.

Lena and Steve are leading the advance. Both are running fast and just behind them is Eleonora who is also going pretty fast. I guess wind magic is really her speciality.

"We shall meet again."

I left the heroes behind. They tried to stop me but I unleashed a last attack which sent both of them some distance away. Unable to chase after me all they can do is seeing me leave the battlefield.

We have lost yet another wall. Today they got us. Maybe all this is my fault. Maybe I tried to defend more than I could possibly afford to defend with my small force. I'm not some expert on military tactics or warfare all I know is how to fight and it seems it was not enough.

"Tell me did I do it wrong? What should I have done?"

"My lord all demons are masters of destruction and death. None of them are masters at defending some place. We burn down such a vast territory in just a few weeks. Even if you us me what is wrong I can't answer since I don't know the answer."

"... Are you telling me I should change approach? Should I send them to destroy and not to defend? How would that be even possible though? We don't have the numbers to make that. We should make use of a superior defensive position."

"My lord we demons are also masters of mischief."

"True. We indeed got nice achievements with our traps and lies. But that was not enough."

"What I'm saying is that we haven't actually used our strengths together. Well not enough."

"I see. Even so it may already be too late. It is time to go all out. It is all or nothing at this point."

We are masters of destruction. We are now one against them all. They are not as united as we are. Our strengths shall prevail. For sure.
