3 Chapter Three

Daniel had only just sat down when the system spoke again.

[Daniel I recommend that you check out the System Store first as it will more likely than not be your main pillar of support in Eden]

"Okay, show me the store then please." he said finally believing that he wasn't just imagining it. A screen then popped up in his vision filled with lots of different sections, but most of them were blurred out so he couldn't see what they said. He looked at the few categories he could see and was pleasantly surprised.

The sections he could see were Exchange, Evo Points, Beast Gear and Knowledge. Each of which had a different function. The Exchange function was the most intriguing, it allowed Daniel to exchange meat and beast gears for Credits which would allow him to buy other beast gears and Evo Points. The Knowledge function was also very good, it allowed him to buy knowledge on all number of things that would be fed directly into his brain.

Daniel sat browsing through the shop window for a while then opened the exchange window and put the two carcasses inside, they disappeared and he got a notification.

[Bodies fully absorbed....20 Credits earned]

He then opened the Evo Points menu and exchanged his credits for Basic Evo points. If he had done this without the help of the system and had instead just eaten the meat, he would have run the risk of not gaining all 10 Evo points. Also with the system he could exchange the same species multiple times for the same amount, which you couldn't do when just eating them because once you ate the same thing a few times it would stop yielding points.

This was really a dream come true for Daniel, truth be told he didn't really like working hard he just did it to make his mother proud. But now with the system he could glide his way through life easily to become the strongest there was.

Daniel took to the forest again to go and kill some more beasts as he wanted to try and fill up his Basic Evo points before the day was done. Once there he headed to the swamp again as it was the most suitable place for beginners. He was on his sixth beast when he saw a change in the message displayed before his eyes.

[Basic creature slain : Drillpecker

Beast gear : Gained

Eat the meat to gain Evo points]

He almost jumped for joy when he heard the voice speak, he quickly looked into his mind like his mother had taught him and saw a Drillpecker perched inside. He willed it out and a peculiar looking arrow appeared in his hand. He notched a regular arrow to his bow and shot it at a tree, it stuck about two inches into the tree. He then notched the Drillpecker arrow to his bow and shot at the same tree, the arrow went straight through the tree and stuck about four inches into the tree behind it.

Daniel's face lit up with delight as he recalled the arrow and shot it again, he was overjoyed that he gained a beast gear that he could actually use. He then spent the next few hours killing anything that moved as he strolled through the forest. He had to kill a few more Slimey Toads before they finally dropped a beast gear, he looked at it and looked quite disappointed.

It was a transfiguration beat soul which was quite rare but because it came from the Slimey Toad, it was pretty much useless. He quickly opened the exchange window and exchanged the slimey toad beast gear for credits. It gave him a total of 100 credits which was about right considering a basic beast gear only had a 1 in 10 chance of dropping.

Daniel looked at his credits, he had a grand total of 270 credits now as he had spent 100 on filling up his basic evo points. Already filling up on basic evo points on his first day in Eden was an amazing feat, and he wouldn't have been able to do so ordinarily.

He quickly opened the shop window to see if he could afford anything worthwhile, he tapped onto the beast soul section and scrolled to the weapon page. He was met with a long line of images with different names and descriptions next to them, he quickly tapped on the filter function for bows and the list became shorter.

Now that he had maxed out on basic evo points he could also see stage 1 items for sale. Stage 1 was actually the second tier of monsters inside of the garden, they were fiercer than basic monsters and would attack humans once they entered their territories.

Each of the basic beast gears cost 150 credits which was 50% higher than they sold for, honestly this was great news for Daniel as it would mean if he killed 15 basic beasts he could exchange them for a good weapon or a piece of armour. The stage one beast souls sold for 300 credits each, this meant that if they followed the same criteria as the basic monsters then each stage 1 beast corpse would sell for 20 credits and a beast gear of the same tier would sell for 200.

Daniel still had four corpses on the ground in front of him so he quickly fed them to the system and bought a stage 1 beast gear bow. Although this would quickly drain his credits down to 10, he still did it anyway as he could easily kill any stage on monster with his bow skills so long as he had a powerful bow in hand.

Once he bought the bow a new beast appeared inside of his mind, it was a parrot looking creature about the size of an eagle. It easily dwarfed the drillpecker it was sat beside, giving off an impression of dominance. Although it was only a stage 1 gear it was at least twice as strong as any basic tier gear, even among stage 1 gears a bow would rarely drop from any creature so obtaining one gave Daniel a huge advantage among his peers.

Daniel quickly stood up from the ground where he was squatting and began to leave the swamp. However he quickly shrank back into the brush when he heard a screech from the skies above. He stared up in disbelief through the thin canopy above him as a huge green bird with a wing span of at least 10 metres fell from the skies above him, it crashed through the green canopy and fell into the swamp before him, splashing him in the process.

Daniel quickly broke from his shocked state and approached the dying bird before him. The bird was still alive but a throwing knife was wedged deeply between its piercing amber eyes, it lay in the dirty pool of mud and water breathing it's final few breaths. The knife in it's head suddenly disappeared, obviously being called back to it's owner, the blood continued to flow out from the bird's now open wound.

Daniel took this chance to quickly take out his newly acquired bow and arrow and shoot a shot directly into the open wound of the beast. It could barely move in it's near death state so there was no way it could dodge the arrow as it flew into it's skull and killed the beast dead.
