17 To Hell with Trials!

Unknown to the two, happy spirits inside the Glass Pagoda, a storm was brewing outside. Outside the cave, there was a group of people, their countenance grim and solemn.

"What happened here?" , a young lady asked, her expression gloomier than the rest. Her elegant face fixed into a frown, causing others to want to reach out and caress that crease.

A man who dressed as a guard stepped up to answer. Bowing respectfully, "Miss... we're not sure... The entrance was here two days ago when we checked it."

"Then why isn't it here?!" The man next to the elegant woman exploded. His eyes thunderous and full of rage. He couldn't understand how the entrance to the Glass trial could disappear.

With every passing second, his face grew darker and darker to the point that you could squeeze water out of it. His usual harsh and upright features that resemble a soldier were pulled together even tighter at the moment.

"Master Bai, we... we don't know..." , one of the guards answered nervously.

"Big brother... do you think that someone was here before us?" The girl asked the man cautiously, her gaze lingering on the cave with suspicion.

At her question, the man's already connected brows became starts to look more and more of like a uni-brow. "Then, let's see if someone will really walk out of there!"

With eyes full of maliciousness, he stared intently at the gate. If someone really walked out of there... there's really no telling if that person will make it back safely.

But unknown to the lying danger outside, Xi Rin who still inside the Glass Pagoda was still carefree as ever. After settling down from a game of chase, the pair of young and old finally got serious.

"As much as I would like to start right now. I can't." The old man starts, sighing regretfully.

"What? Why?"

"The cultivation method I'm about to pass on to you... chooses its own master. I cannot just give it to you." He answered, relieving some of her questions but causes more to arise.

"Sooo...?" She swears that if he says tha-

"You'll have to go through another trial for it."

She f*cking knew it!!

Throwing her arms up exasperatedly, "Nope! Nope! Nuh-ah! I can't do this. I'm done."

"Nooooo!" The elder had to hold onto her to keep her from leaving in a fit. After quite the struggle, he finally got her to sit back down and listen. Although she's still huffing and puffing and complaining about the trial.

Why does he have such a ridiculous heir?

"Ahem," the old man coughed, continuing his previous statement. "Thus, let the trial begin."

As if acting on his words, the whole Glass Pagoda's domain began to tremble and shake, causing loud rumblings to be heard. The used to be bright and lively sky turned dark with the occasional lightning flashing through.

Above the old man's body, a gale began to form and he started to glow an unusual light. Slowly, he pulled out two books. One black, one white. One radiated a golden light while the other burned with an angry red glow.

In all seriousness, "Pick one." The old man said, holding out the books for the eyes to see.

However, once she saw the cover, her awe dispersed immediately.

In bold fonts, the white book is titled DEATH. While the black book is titled LIFE. It was a complete contradiction to their looks.

... So she has to pick between life or death?

To hell with trials!!
