1 First Blood

Entering from the wide, slightly rusty metal door. Alen was greeted with limitless cages and the howl of dogs. This young man looked at them with an exhausted face. Stray dogs, It's vaccinating day, isn't it!

Alen walked to the changing room where he changed his clothes, looking at the mirror his face was a mess. Black hair and slight traces of a beard, his coal-black eyes are slightly bloodshot.

"Probably staying up gaming wasn't a good idea, I need to fix that habit!" He said with determination.

After changing his clothes and preparing himself, it was time to work.

Alen failed high school so he ended up getting this work in a veterinary clinic, restraining violent pets and animals for treatment. not every stray dog or cat will sit and accept treatment so he had to hold them down!

Walking inside the treating room he was greeted with the smile of an old man. "Good morning, you're late again!" The man said with a concerned face.

"Sorry, just had something to do last night!" Alen responded while averting his eyes.

The man took a serious face, "You realize we live under the same roof? I don't mind you playing games but, those games types of games aren't something to stay up for! Get a girlfriend instead!!!"

Alen realized he have been caught, Honestly apologizing "Sorry dad, I will try to better myself!"

"Let's leave this talk for when we get home, those dogs won't vaccinate themselves!" Alen's father replied as he opened a box full of needles.

This is right, I work for my father in his clinic. I failed both school and finding a job so he took me in! The only thing I have is my strong body, probably I should have tried to shoot for a sport instead of trying to use my brain! No, the military is also a good option but my mom was strongly against it!

It's time to work so I should focus on that! I don't want to increase the things on tonight scolding more than it is!

With his arms fully covered with thick rubber gloves, Alen grabbed a dog from his cage, tightly holding him down so his father can inject the vaccine.

Last year, a rabies outbreak forced this policy. Each stray animal that can carry the disease must be vaccinated to prevent such a disaster from happening again! The people expected the government to start hunting stray animals but thanks to the efforts of animal rights organizations, they managed to gather enough funding to make vaccinating an option!

One after another, Alen kept taking the dogs out. His father injected them, he then put them in a separate cell so they can be released later!

Looking at the next cage, cold sweat dripped from Alen's back. A jet-black dog with glowing red eyes is looking him in the face. The dog seemed weak, he was thin and old. From experience, Alen could tell that this dog was on death's door from old age.

Alen opened the cage and tried to grab the dog, it didn't even resist but was calm and with a sad face.

It's as if he already gave up on life. Alen felt sad.

"If you stayed calm I will try to convince my father of taking you in, at least it will make your last days easier!" Alen told the dog, completely aware that a dog can't possibly understand speech!

"Alen what are you doing? Hold it in place!!!" His father shouted.

As Alen put the dog on the table his father also noticed. "Too old to care? Guess it a thing!"

The father prepared The injection, this time instead of holding the dog down Alen was petting him! The dog seemed to relax for a moment.

If all dogs were this calm...

Alen's father was about the inject the dog. At the same moment, the needle poked the dog.

This work will be easier...

He? This feeling... blood splashed from Alen's neck... The image of his father's terrified face was the last thing he remembered.

Alen was rushed into the hospital, his condition is dire. The entire structure of his neck was destroyed, thankfully they managed to keep him alive at least.

Pip...Pip...pip...pip...

His condition is weird, he isn't waking up even after fully healing. He has been in a coma for more than three months. Brain death? No that can't be possible his tests show he is fine.

Order all his tests again, we need to know what's going on... A few days later, a nurse entered rushing into the head doctor's room. She brought Alen's tests back.

"The first tests were wrong! He had contracted rabies... It's already reached the brain!" The nurse said in confusion.

"That can't be! Rabies usually takes effect in 2 to 10 days, It has been over three months in a coma!"

piipiii CODE BLUE, piipiii CODE BLUE, piipiii CODE BLUE, piipiii CODE BLUE.

Hearing the alarm The doctor checked, It's Alen, he flatlined. This was just too sudden, but it was still an expected routine in the hospital so everyone took their place.

In Alen's room, the doctor is preparing an adrenaline shot, he doesn't need to tell the nurse to start CPR.

"Stay with us, we're just understanding your condition!" A nurse said.

Before injecting him with Adrenaline, with just CPR, as if he had heard the nurse.

Pii...Pii...Piii... His heart started beating again, on its own.

"What?" The doctor said.

"Thank god! He survived!" A nurse said.

"Don't relax! check his condition and keep him under watch, he might flatline again!"

The day passed without anything else happening, Alen seemed stable and his condition seemed to improve which caused the doctor to feel concerned, he doesn't know why and that's bothering him.

The same day at midnight, under the moonlight coming from the window, Alen opened his eyes!

Gwaaaaaaaaaaa! The first was that he gagged on the tubes running down his nose and mouth, they felt horrible and he instinctively pulled them out.

Extreme headache and nausea, he felt as the world was rotating around him for a moment.

Where am I? The memories got back to him, how he was bitten in the clinic, he remembered nothing after.

He realized he is in the hospital, with that he relaxed.

Looking around the room was only lit with moonlight but still looked bright as if it was already morning. beside him was a red bottom with -Emergency- written on it. It was put so a patient in pain can instantly call help!

Should I call them? Its midnight! No, a doctor or a nurse should be on call for the night, they might even yell at me later if I don't call them the moment I woke up! They stuck tubes and stuff in me so I guess getting bitten in the neck was extremely bad. I mean it is but my condition must have been a little bit more -Bad-

Alen pushed the bottom, he could hear the voice of a woman gasping in the distance, then the sound of rushing footsteps. The walls must be thin as hell, I could her evening in this hospital. They could have spent more funds toward making this place a little bit easier to rest in!

The footstep approached rapidly, his room's door was opened.

"Kya!!" The nurse screamed as she jumped backward in fear.

Inside the room, two glowing eyes were staring her down, she thought a wild animal sneaked in. It was only when Alen spoke that she remembered to turn on the light.

She got inside the room, the windows cutting were closed, what little moonlight got in wasn't enough to make it visible to see inside the room.

As she was checking his condition she asked, how did you know to push the button? Alen's reply was simple, "It had emergency written on it so I thought someone would come if I pushed it!"

The nurse laughed it off, she thought he was joking as it was impossible to read with how dark the room was!

The next morning when the doctor came he was surprised, he has received the news last night about Alen waking up and being stable but didn't expect to see him standing the moment he entered the room.

"You can stand?" The doctor asked.

"And jump as well! I feel great!" Alen jumped in place to prove it.

The doctor then took the time to explain everything to Alen, how he was injured, the three months that passed. Alen checked his neck and the scars are already fading, an unbelievable healing time!

Guess it was true that my body is the only thing going on for me!

Having some time on his hand, the doctor offered to take Alen on a walk around the hospital. That was what he said but he had other motives, how is Alen awake? How did he get better? What happened? Those questions were swarming the doctor's head, this tour was an excuse to get time to talk and observe Alen for any irregularities. Could this be just some hormones acting out and when they stop he will fall back into a coma? The doctor kept a close eye on Alen in case he seemed to stumble even a bit!

As they were passing by MBU (Mother baby unit, the place where the mothers stay with their babies in the hospital after birth.) in the split second they were passing by the door, Alen noticed something at the other end of the room. A mother carrying his child is staring out the window, this was fairly normal especially with how the hospital smells you kinda want some fresh air. The thing that fought his eyes was that the mother's body was leaning forward.

Alen's body sprung into action, blood rushed through his veins, his vision shrunk, and only focused on the baby falling through the window.

The baby has already fallen from the window, just now the doctor's reaction caught up. in that split second Alen has already jumped behind the baby. The mother who passed out fell inside the room.

Mid-air Alen caught the baby with one hand and hung to the window of the story below with one arm. Alen's rush didn't end yet, with his blood still hot he pulled himself and the baby inside the window with one arm. The room on the story below was a nurse's resting room. inside it was the nurse who came to him at night preparing to leave. Alen jumping on her like that from the window only helped to further the fear he inflicted on her last night!
