1 Why am I here?

An 'informant' claims that an executive of the demon king is hiding here, and we finally arrived in the area. It's said he disguised as a nobleman and is currently hiding in the mansion we reached. "Are you sure that informant is reliable, what if it's a trap?" Says the stiff and vexing mage.

A soft voice responds in a sighing tone. "Astra, didn't we already investigate and double-check the information?" Of course, the nun responds to rebuke with her high and mighty tone.

"Ha! We? The one who investigated was our little rogue and you expect me to trust that? speaking of him... Vail! Stop listening in on us like a creep and hurry up with the lock! Or should I make you're job useless and use my spells to deal with it?" Ugh, there she goes again with her yapping...

As I was about to respond to her, my sister Elira entered the fray of this useless conversation. "What do you mean by useless?! My brother is greater than you could ever know! Right, Isabelle?"

"Umm... Yes! Astra, we can't waste your mana on small things like this. I'm sure Vail was working hard on it and not listening in on us." She thinks otherwise, but I was listening, so I can't blame her.

And then the man of the hour arrives and calms things down as he always does. "Everyone calm down, we are about to face a potential executive so we need to be in top shape. Vail, you got that lock done yet?"

At that moment, a clink sounded with the door wide open. With a grin, I turn around to say "Of course Eric, who do you think I am? And Astra, please call me an assassin, not a rogue, thank you very much."

Astra looks exasperated as she complains "You and your stupid titles, if only those were the worst things about you..." She has a look of malice as she says that which I ignore.

Everything got silent. Eric coughed to catch everyone's attention. "Okay, this is where things get real, we have no idea what kind of things await us once we enter. So I only ask one thing of all of you, Live."

"Got it! My spells will burn them to a crisp."

"May the goddess bless us to live through harrowing times..."

"I only need to beat them all up right?!"

"Elira please don't think with your fists all the time..."

"What, after I defended you earlier Vail! The betrayal!"

Once again, Eric is shining. Bringing everyone together and giving hope. I would be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of that light. But I found comfort in the fact that we were all in it together. So why, why am I here doing this?

"You bastard! How dare you betray us! I should've never trusted you..." The mage who usually looked annoyed now had a look of pure hatred.

"The goddess will bring judgment to the wicked." The pretentious nun now had eyes cold as ice as she looked at me like a bug.

"Why would you do this?! We were comrades." While upset, the Leader resolved to defeat me.

"Brother..." And the sister who once trusted me the most looks like she lost everything.

"HA! Comrades? You understand nothing! I was never you're comrade, just some baggage... But now I'm going to show you all!"

Please, someone, believe me. I never wanted this.
