6 Getting a job

Caesar's face was stoic as he walked out of the hall. There was hardly any emotion on his face but Zaviero could easily feel that the tyrant seemed to be a little…happy.

He looked at the man and asked, "Why did you suddenly decide to appear in public. Your assistant could have handled this matter too. It didn't necessarily need your intervention."

"I know. It was about time," Caesar replied as he lowered himself to the Maserati at the door. He had barely entered the car when sounds of numerous cars approaching entered his ears.

Caesar gritted his teeth. Damned paparazzi.

He glanced at the other two men who stood in front of the car, unaware of the approaching people. "Get in right now."

Even though the two were confused, they hurried into one of the three cars each at the sight of his glowering gaze.

Callan leaned on the kitchen table as she sorted out the ingredients to bake a cake. She wasn't expecting it to turn out perfect, after all it was only her second time trying to bake a cake. But at least, she hoped it wouldn't turn out as bad as her very first attempt. She brought out the ingredients and placed them on the table before setting out to work. As she mixed the dough, she seemed to remember that she had a bunch of songs saved onto her phone.

She put on an headphone, tuned a song and sang as she continued baking. She placed the dough in the oven and made her way to the living room after setting the timer.

Her gaze suddenly fell on the leaflet on the table. It was the letter of acceptance she received through mail the day before. About three months before, she accidentally ran into a vacancy poster for a coffee shop. They were in need of a saleslady. She had applied and got selected.

The coffee shop was in one of the most commercial part of Sicily. The sales wasn't on par with cities l8ke Rome but it was fairly good and it attracted a lot of customers.

Callan sighed and put away the leaflet. She'd be resuming for work tomorrow. She had to grab the opportunity anyway. For if it turned out she would be living in hiding for the rest of her life, she needed maximum supply of money to keep ends meet.

She leaned into the sofa and grabbed the novel on the table. It was the book she had borrowed from the library. It was titled 'I like to bully, so what?' It was centered on a villain and the main plot was totally against the general idea that all villains have to pay for their sins.

Callan stretched and walked to the kitchen. She had been reading it earlier but didn't have the chance to finish it. But most importantly, it was quite interesting. She ha read all type of books but never read one where in the end, the villain kills the hero. She found the plot quite interesting; after all, not all evil are gotten rid of.

The cake was ready and she pulled it out to batter it. As she worked, she made a mental note to bake some cookies and distribute them on her first day of work. One had to make sacrifices to get reward.

Two days later…

Callan pulled at her hair as she stood in the mirror in her room. So devastating. She was all dressed up. Except of course, she had problems packing her hair. Looking at the tangled web she had turned the ink black hair to, she resolutely grabbed a brush and brushed it out. She pulled a few strands of her hair and pulled it towards the back before tying it into bun.

Looking at the her hairdo, Callan was very satisfied and she grabbed her bag before walking out of the house. The moment she stepped out of the apartment, her gaze fell on the locks of her neighbor's door.
