9 The Raid

Several days later

2:00 AM, Bartos city Gate

Night was cold and foggy, fog and silence engulfed the whole city. An group of wagons had arrived at the city Gate, and guard began interrogating them,

"where are you coming from this late?"

"we are just traders sir, came here to sell some weapons"

There were four entrances to the city, each has total of five guards, all the guards were checking the goods in wagons. The goods that wagons were carrying was usually weapons. As the interrogation and checking was progressing.

Suddenly the guard who was questioning the trader, felt a stingy pain near his heart as he was thinking what's happening. He fell on ground and in the next moment what the scene was, a dagger pierced through his heart and all the other guards were killed by the cloaked men, they were none other than elfs.

The trader who was answering was none other than Magnus.After converting the guards into dark knights, he entered city.

According to first phase of plan, they had to capture the defensive towers protecting the city.

As the layout of a Bartos city included large structures not far from where the defensive walls were erected, a wide open space that stretched beside the protective buildings and homes normally located in the south-east. The walls had towers and moats.

Magnus took the job of capturing towers around the defensive wall with the Paladin and some dark mages,while elfs and the other troops were ordered to capture the jail which was situated at the western side of the city.

Jail was one of the biggest megastructures of city which was resting place for slaves after the whole day of grinding . Conditions of jail was miserable, dirty, wet, cramped and unhygienic which wasn't an suitable place.

An wave of negative energy can be felt from hopeless prisoners.

As Magnus and party was going for their tasks, they send out the signal into the forest.

Elfs were elite mages, they can be turning point for a war due to their knowledge in AOE spells. As signal went into forest, about 100 mages including summons and elfs came out of shadows encircling the city and after a while, the elfs who were present among the encircling unit began an chant and dark mages began mana synthesis.

Hundreds of magic circles surrounded the city and purple aura spread through city

Illusion magic, Den of Snakes.

As the spell activated, the purple aura spreading through city started taking shape of gaint sized snakes crawling around the roads and buildings .

The guards on the patrol were lazy and amateur, as the fog was thick their senses became more timid. A guard who was purposelessly strolling around saw a shadow and began approaching it. As soon as he reached the shadow, he gave out a huge scream.

It awakened the guards and patrols. The defensive walls and towers were equipped with huge spotlight they examined the place of the incident . As soon as light spread through the area, a large number of snakes crawling around the building and roads of the city surprised the guards ,and they activated the alarm and all the city guards and bandits woke up for the emergency Battle .

As soon as snakes and Bartos force engaged in battle, the attention of every being in city turned over towards snakes, which was the part of plan. As by distracting the battle force of city, Magnus and party took action.

There were total of 25 towers in the city, hiding through the darkness of the night. Magnus reached the first tower, as the forces were engaged with the snakes their guard was down and Paladin thrashed through the door. Surprising all the forces in tower, with the speed of light Magnus and Paladin took down everyone in the tower. As Magnus didn't have enough time of absorbing the lifeforce or summoning he left and decided to deal with it afterwards. Dark mages held the position on towers, as the time passed by one after another tower was being captured.

On the other side, elfs reached the jail and thrashed into it, eliminating every enemy in the way with their wagons. The wagons which they were driving were filled with bandit's weapon who attacked the village. After entering the jail, they released the prisoners and looked for the prisoners who were fit for Battle. Prisoners were surprised on the courage of elfs of raiding the city. Ebina was at the scene, a wolfkin approached Ebina

"can i join the battle? ".

Ebina was surprised on seeing the wolfkin as he was one of the village's chief of savage lands and an old acquaintance. Giving him a sword, she replied,

" it's time for revenge ",

Wolfkin chief who was staring at Ebina asked,

" Will we be able to survive this?".

Ebina replied in laughing tune,

"don't worry, our leader is preparing a surprise for these bastards".

An interest aroused in wolfkin chief about the raid leader, without any further question the fighting prisoners gathered outside the jail and other prisoners were asked to remain calm and silent in jail.

For some prisoners, it was a ray of hope but for some an fruitless effort. The fighting prisoners were those who were seeking the revenge from bandits for their demise. As prisoners started to prepare themselves, Ebina from heightened place ordered

"wait for some moments, after our leader give out his signal we will join the battle".

The fighting prisoners were confused about the situation as Ebina told them to wait, some were so eager to kill that they had to hold themselves back.

Hugo who was watching all this mess hit the ceiling and gritted his teeth.

"what the hell, where did these snakes come from"

"dawn those guards, if they weren't killed by these snakes I will kill them myself".

Red face of Hugo continued cursing the guards. As this whole confusion was progressing, Magnus who was standing above a tower, used vision to check the situation in the jail, inspecting the whole situation, an evil grin took over Magnus's face and he spoke,

"looks like its time for second phase of the plan".
