Chapter 2

My name is Haru. I am a student who finished college. Like many, I found no use for it. I kept hopping from job to job without being to stay anywhere for long. I used to be a very bright student. I had so much potential, but I had many flaws. My procrastination was awful, and I often didn't get stuff done. I grew up with just my mother, and I lost her to illness midway through college. That is when I broke down. I could no longer function right, hence my inability to keep jobs. I thought I had friends, but there was nobody that I was actually that close to. That is why I am alone now. In addition, I was horrible at saving money. But for once, I was able to save. I bought a Gateway headset, along with their only game, Nature's Grace.

Today would be a feast. I could finally afford fresh meat after I finally bought the headset. I stopped by the convenience store on my way home. As I entered the store, there was a man with bloodshot eyes glaring at me as he eyed my headset. It truly was a rare commodity. I found some meat along with some rice. I paid the cost at the register. The cashier looked at me. She scanned down my disheveled figure and she saw the headset in my other hand. She could infer what was happening.

"A celebration?" she asked.

"I guess you could put it like that," I replied. I was never good at being social. I was only able to say that much because I was somewhat of a regular. I had a look of joy like I was a little kid again. The man again gave me a nasty look again. I paid him no mind. I walked down the street towards my apartment. I was able to gather some information about this so-called "alternate world." Apparently it is a world that contains many races, magic, and other fantasy concepts. There was still video-game like stuff like a menu. In the menu you could access a game-wide web where discussions are held. Equipment is equipped by merely wearing or using it, and you could see your buffs in the menu. You are given a random character with a random race, stats, and age. You are also given a random place to start in, but it will definitely be a settlement. Finally, there is one more thing that makes your character special. It is called a trait. It could be anything, good or bad. For example, you could be able to learn an infinite number of spells. On the other hand, you could be a person prone to injury. Also, I hoped that I would be able to start my social life over.

As I ran up the steps, I did everything in a hurry. I opened the door and set my stuff down. While it was quick, the dinner I made was amazing compared to what I was used to. I plugged my headset in, hopped onto my bed, and put it on.

The first thing it did was ask me for my name. I told it I was Haru. However, I couldn't choose my in-game name. That was also random. When I told the headset, my consciousness immediately wandered off to some unknown place. There was black all around me except for a white block of text that said "Loading...". All of a sudden, basic stats appeared where the loading sign was.

Lloyd Infyre

Go to an Omnistone to see complete stats.

I had many questions. What are the rest of my stats? How high are my stats? What is an Omnistone? I could only wonder. As I pondered these questions, the text changed again. This time it was a countdown. Starting in..

A video appeared where there was nothing. It began to tell the story of the World of Yore's origin.

"Long ago, there were 3 worlds. There was the World of Humans, the World of Monsters, and the World of Yore. The World of Yore was where it all began. But then the humans and monsters had a conflict. Those who cared went on to create their own worlds with the help of the gods. The others would stay behind with the others. The Gods severed the connections between the worlds. But what happens once, is bound to happen again. There was another conflict. But this time, the gods refused to help. They were then forced to take sides. The evil gods sided with the monsters, and the righteous ones with the humans."

It seems to be a part of the story. I guess I will have to unlock more throughout the game.

"The game will now start."
