When your arm doesn't work like it used to before

Zayd woke up.

Looking outside his window, Zayd observed as the sun illuminated the street.

Catching his eye, two squirrels fought in a tree.

As they were fighting, one of them jumped off of the tree from high up and landed.

Calmly walking away, that squirrel seemed as though nothing had happened before it jumped down.

The other squirrel jumped after it and ran up to it, and they both began running around before climbing back up the tree.

'That's weird.' Zayd thought as he changed into his uniform as much as he could without using his right arm.

Instead of putting a shirt on, Zayd was allowed to get away with wearing a T-shirt which in itself was an arduous process. Having to remove a sling and carefully manipulate his arm so as not to irritate the hairline fracture was difficult.

---

At School, Zayd did not care about anybody's reactions to him being in a cast. As they usually did, people preferred to whisper and not interact with Zayd.

It was strange how easily Zayd changed. From a cold personality to a warm one around those that he liked. As soon as he left the house, Zayd wore a calm expression on his face. It was not a blank face but something different.

Zayd had always been perceptive. His ears caught people's words when they did not intend for him to hear them. If possible, they avoided conversation with him entirely.

Meanwhile, his eyes paid attention to all of his surroundings. It was a habit he picked up when he was a child. Even nowadays, his eyes always observed and that in itself allowed Zayd to remain active whenever he went somewhere.

However, some people were not going to ignore him.

Entering the classroom, Zayd saw that Kai was not in School. It was rather peculiar, but Zayd thought nothing of it.

"How did you break your arm?" Himari asked Zayd when Homeroom ended.

"I tripped over some uneven steps on a staircase. So what happened was that the stairs were spiral, I went up too quickly, and my foot did not allow me to balance, so I fell back and over the railing and hit my arm on the floor. It also dislocated because the way I landed was quite awkward." Zayd explained as he put on an embarrassed expression.

By now, Zayd had already explained what happened to Minoru and some other classmates. Those classmates surprised him with their willingness to interact with him.

Sitting at the front with Minoru, Zayd had asked to move next to the Class Monitor so that she could help him complete his work as his main arm had to remain in place. Since his arm could not move anywhere, he could not write with his right hand.

'I'm pretty ambidextrous!' Zayd thought as he admired his handiwork.

"Zayd, what does that even say?" Minoru asked as she squinted while trying to read Zayd's writing.

It did not help that his handwriting was messy as it was, further exacerbating the situation.

In this case, Zayd would not be able to come back and read the notes he made at a later date.

In the end, he just listened to the teachers' explanations. Meanwhile, Minoru proposed for her to send pictures of her notes after class so that Zayd could use them later.

Agreeing as it would spare him the effort, Zayd relaxed until a teacher realised he was not doing anything but listening to them speak.

As such, while everyone was doing the questions, Zayd had to sit beside the teacher at the long desk in the front as they quietly went over the steps to solve everything.

The teacher was glad to see that Zayd did not make things difficult for them as he could do everything rapidly.

---

Zayd felt depressed with his right hand out of commission. Zayd could no longer do the thing he loved the most.

Eating.

It was not that he could not use his left hand. It was that he wasn't used to eating like that. Eating became bothersome because his left hand seemed quite damaged from the fight with Kai.

Grasping things caused pain, and extended exertion was rather unbearable to a certain extent.

So, to resolve the problem, Himari was feeding him.

'This is strangely nice. I could get used to this!'

"Don't get used to this," Himari said as she took a bite out of her food.

Having had his dreams tread upon, Zayd felt despondence for a moment. That was before he got his next serving.

---

Mr Kaiju merely raised an eyebrow when Zayd went to see him.

"Recover soon. You are the only one that goes to the club. Also, try and get more students involved in the club. Do you understand that it's hard to explain why a club should remain on for a single student?" Mr Kaiju wanted the club to get more exposure.

"Why don't we try to get something sorted with the students. Like a taster session for them to see if they like this and want to continue." Zayd pondered over the matter internally and gave a response.

"That's a good idea. I will talk to the School about it."

---

Once more, like the time Zayd had been in an alley and got beaten up by a random guy who knew Taekwondo, Zayd felt everything came to a standstill.

After Kai beat Zayd, Zayd realised that Kai had learned some grappling techniques. Zayd simulated the challenge in his mind, but all that happened was that Kai would inevitably find an opportunity to do something.

He could not practise Boxing or even move his arm, so he felt very bored unless he watched some videos of other Boxers.

As he got home, the sun was intense.

Heat unlike that which Zayd had ever known came out of nowhere, and it felt rather uncomfortable.

To deal with the heat, Zayd got onto his bed with a fan pointed towards his face.

Agh this heatwave in the UK is not that welcome with me. It's not fun having my balls reach the temperature they're getting to.
