4 Chapter 4

'System, how do I unlock their abilities?'

'In addition to training, the host can also speed up the unlocking progress by defeating opponents to obtain energy points. It can also be unlocked by completing randomly distributed quests.'

Okay, that's… good? 'What does the system consider an opponent though? Just someone who's against me or does it work for sparring partners, too?'

'The points gained from sparring are less than those gained by death battles.'

'I'm five though, how will I be in sparring matches, much less in death battles?"

"The system can transport the mind of the user to a sparring ground to fight against system-made enemies. 200 Doriki points recommended for going inside.'

She glances at her 9 Doriki points and sighs. 'Training for now that is.'

Now that she's not going from situation to situation, like some kind of a wild rollercoaster, she can finally think about her current situation. Like the fact, she's not in her world and she can't remember much of her life. Also, she's a male, now. Not a twenty-three-year-old Latina woman.

She has some of this body's memories so she remembers he has red hair and honey almost yellow eyes when he saw himself in the mirror. The kid was always happy and liked to help in her mother's restaurant whenever he could. Her mother calls it a gift as he's naturally good at cooking, from what little she's made him cook. Now that she thinks about it, isn't Souma Yukihira the protagonist of Food Wars? The Japanese name was something-something no Soma. Or at least, she thinks so.

Anyway, she needs to train, sure but first, she needs to be able to see. She's blind sure, but wasn't the Admiral Fujitora blind and still badass? Also, Toph was cool, too. What do they have in common? They used other methods to be able to sense the world around them. Her kenbonshuko Haki is at the novice level and from what she's tried it serves like Peter Parker's Spidey-sense in that only warns her when she's about to hit something. Or be hit, she guesses. Mostly she used it while walking, trying to get used to her blindness.

Now, she could do a Toph and try to see using water bending but, she would only be able to see clearly when it's raining. Like in that Daredevil movie. Wait. Water, of course! How many times she has read the humidity in the weather by using an app? The atmosphere has its humidity, right, how could she forget.

Maybe if she uses her bending, she will be able to see.

At least, it's worth trying. Though first, she'll try to see while in the water and then slowly upgrade from there.

The following month is a blur of activity in which she's treated like a doll by her parents with weekly check-ups to the hospital in which she's been tried to see if she can use her chakra and such. The pro is that it let her chakra pathways be open, which usually doesn't happens unless one is in the Academy.

She's finally upgraded her not-vision from looking while she was doing her bath (inside the bathtub) to doing it while she showers (The only thing she has that can simulate rain). The pros of this practice besides the progress in being able to see are that she's gotten more used to her body, sometimes even exchanging her pronouns without noticing.

Also, her Katara Template has increased to 7% while her use of Kenbunshoku Haki has upgraded Mihawk's Template to 1,8%. She thinks Katara's template is as high as it is because her personality is similar to Katara's. One who curses more, sure, but her life is not a PG cartoon, so.

She's also been on the fence about her decision of going to the Academy (and trying to convince her parents to let her go) or simply ignore it and train without worries. It would be longer because of the lack of opponents, sure, but also safer. She doesn't need to interact with the plot to survive, but… would it be fair?

One of her favorite comics is Spiderman and she used to think if she was able to use some kind of power, the phrase 'With great power comes great responsibility' would resonate with her.

The thing is that it doesn't. And that hurts a little. To recognize you aren't up to the expectations you think you were.

Maybe that's why she makes the decision of going to the Academy. Mostly because she wants to be able to live up to her expectations of herself. Yes, it's stupid, she knows, but she wants to do better to feel better herself. Maybe if she helps others, she will feel… something and change. Into what, she doesn't know. After all, this world is full of killing, there's no clear barrier between heroes and villains. Everything is gray here.

Also, she apparently lost her sight one day after her birthday and now a month has passed so it must mean that she's at the beginning of December. Classes in the Academy start in September so she has a little more than nine months to get ready and at least be able to see around her. She would be a year older than most clan students as they usually start when they are six, but well, she needs to train.

So, her days go about from that day on, with her training water bending at every possible moment, Kenbunshoku Haki is used mostly when she walks around in her parent's apartment and sometimes when she goes with her mom to the restaurant. She still tries to help her mom cooking but for now, it's mostly passing the ingredients to her. Her sense of smell has always been high whenever she tries to memorize food ingredients.
