42 Chapter 42 : Raid Part 3

Rei and Kenji inched their way across the village, stopping at vantage points while Kenji scoped out parts of the village. Through walls, through the ground, anyone they could find. There was no one. The Leaf was reduced to a ghost town.

Kenji sighed. "Where is everybody?"

Rei wondered as well. "Hey! I remember my dad saying there was a bunker below the monument."

"A bunker?"

"Yeah. He said it was built for natural disasters. Stuff like that. I don't think it was ever finished though." She cupped her chin. "Or maybe it was being expanded?"

"See if you can see through the bottom of the mountain."

Kenji squinted through the rock. He could feel the strain rising through his veins. He hadn't deactivated his eyes since he got here. Thankfully he could counter the chakra consumption. A little trick he picked up from Itachi. He never shut his off. Ever.

Kenji rubbed his eyes and refocused, Rei noticed the exhaustion through his body language. She wanted to say something. "Ken-"

"I found it! I can't see through the walls though. There's some weird chakra running through the walls blocking my vision." he turned to Rei. She was staring at his face with worry.

"What?" Kenji was on the verge of frustration. There was no time to be staring off into space.

"How often have you used your eyes?" Rei spoke quickly, simultaneously caressing Kenji's cheek. Pain shot through his face, pulling himself away. His face turned slightly red.

"That hurt! What..what are you doing?"

Rei realized what she did, turning her own face into a beat. "Um....your left cheek. The veins are purple."

Kenji touched his face. The mile long vision in his left eye was definitely blurry. It seems he busted the veins in his eye. Most likely from over use.

"The results of nonstop training I guess. That doesn't mean I can stop though. Lets go."

Rei was not happy, but she followed anyway.

----------------

At the West Gate...

"Lord Hokage?!" Asuma ran towards Minato but stopped when he saw that man.

"Asuma!" Minato grabbed his attention, but it didn't break his gaze.

"I'll explain later, but Itachi is on our side."

"How?!?! He massacred his entire-"

"Enough!!! You believe in me, so believe in him."

"Yes sir." Asuma lowered his head. He completely disrespected his leader. "Asuma, Where is Kenji?" Itachi lowered Minato to the ground.

"....."

"Asuma."

"He went to look for more survivors a few minutes ago. I told him I would be on his tail if he didn't return in thirty. He and Rei flew off."

Minato straightened up. "Is Rei ok?"

"Yes. She's fine. But I'm worried something is up. We only evacuated less than half of the population. And I haven't seen anyone else. Have you?"

"Now that you mention it. No." Itachi turned to the destruction.

Minato lit up. "Wait!!! Don't tell me." He turned to Itachi. "We have to hurry. RIGHT NOW!"

----------------

"Stay sharp."

Rei nodded.

Kenji opened a heavy, metal door. It creaked open. The room was gigantic. Probably half the mountain was hiding a secret room in its core. Several lights flickered on, almost blinding the two ninja. When the vision adjusted, Kenji saw thousands of people, sitting down without a care in the world. Staring blankly in front of them. Among the people, he spotted the other part of his family. Aya, Kakashi, and Sasuke sat beside each other. No reaction whatsoever to his entrance.

"What is this?" Rei whispered.

BAM!

The door slammed shut. Kenji saw the outline of Zetsu lower into the ground. "Tskk."

"KENJI!!!!"

He looked up and saw Hidan, Kakuzu, Sasori, Kisame, All six Pains, and Obito, painted to the ceiling. They pushed off and hit the ground, circling Rei and Kenji.

Kenji cursed himself. He wanted to save these people. Make them see that he was good. He was someone they could count on. The kids of the village could look up to them. But in his blind desire, he lost his ninja sense, unable to even see this trap, when he should have, from a mile away.

The Wraith took over. "Obito. I can't wait to Fu***** tear your limbs apart." Kenji whispered. A chill shot up Rei's spine.

"ho??? That's not very nice." Obito waved his finger slightly, catching Kenji's attention.

Sasori shot two darts towards them. Kenji blocked his barely. He looked to his side and met Rei's eyes. They were wide with fear. Kenji followed down her face and found it. A dart, oozing green liquid from her neck.

"Kenji." Rei started to tear up and fell to the floor. Kenji caught her. "Rei!!! REI!!!" He rubbed her hair, bringing tears of his own.

"What....WHAT DID YOU DO!!!"

Obito met the intent that hit him in the face. Nothing but murder. His lone sharingan squinted through the mask. "Keeeennnnjjjjjiiiii. Kenji. It does hurt me to see this. After all, I'm the one that made your teammates attack you in the Mist. It seems I keep destroying your life, over and over again." Obito sort of smiled behind his mask. "Instead of blaming me right now, shouldn't you be blaming yourself? Since you're the one that killed them all. And now you just killed another teammate. Everyone around you dies. What in the world....makes you think you're a good guy."

BOOM!!!!!

-----------------

"Did you hear that?" Itachi stopped on a rooftop, halfway to the bunker. He supported the Hokage with his shoulder.

"Yes. We need to hurry, Itachi. I have a bad feeling about this."

--------------

Obito sat on top of Kenji's back. A crater surrounded them, even through the metal, from the aftershock of Obito's smash. He held Kenji's head down with force.

Kenji's face bled. His eyes were blurry. He felt like shit. But that was incomparable to the anger boiling inside.

"Kenji, you see these people?"

Obito waved his hand, a black light flickered on the tip of his finger. When he did that, every face in the room angle towards Kenji. It was the same as Mei. Kenji could see the faint dot, assembled in the forehead, controlling them.

In this moment, Kenji missed the four years he just had. Nothing but training. None of this...this....despair. This fear. This anger.

He had only been home for an hour and he was already drenched in those feelings he longed to get rid of.

"Master has decided. He's finished watching you. You were basically just a game to him. Just something to entertain him. He played you your entire life. He even killed your parents. Just for his entertainment."

Kenji was about to blow.

"And now, all these gazes are on you. The best part, they can see and hear everything, they just can't do anything about it. I thought it was fitting. The same people that you're trying so hard to impress. Will get to see you die." Obito laughed and looked up.

"Oh..it seems someones upset." Obito lowered to Kenji's level and pointed, so he could see.

Kenji followed his finger. He pointed to Aya. Even in a catatonic state, unable to do anything but watch. She was shedding tears.

Kenji put his head into the ground. "Hey Obito."

"Hmmm."

"You're wrong."

"And why is that Kenji."

"I just realized. I don't need anyone's acknowledgment. As long as I can kill you, I might even just kill myself." Obito was surprised.

"Because your death...." Kenji angled his head backwards, his neck popped and cracked until one eye caught Obito's line of sight. The eye that Obito saw...was void of any humanity left. Nothing but crazy, overpowering death. "...Is the only thing that matters to me now."

Yep. Short again. Don't know about you guys, but I loved this chapter. I have to do volunteer work all day tomorrow, so I want sleep. I promise though, every other day this week will be bangin. If you're not a fan of the crazy murder spree stuff, don't worry, lol. Kenji will receive a jolt back to the real world pretty quickly. Hope you enjoyed. YERRR!
