. . . . .

*SWOOSHHH*

As the huge fireball enveloped the whole arena, a frown appeared on Hibachi's face.

With this kind of big move, the Substitution Jutsu wouldn't help him escape his current predicament. Sasuke was able to fully utilize the fact that they were battling in a closed arena and then use it to his own advantage to create a perfect trap for Hibachi.

Hibachi sighed. The only way to escape was to jump high into the air, but it seemed like it was what the other party wanted.

Nonetheless, Hibachi didn't have much of a choice. It was either be burned by the huge fireball or jump high into the air avoiding the fireball to then fall into his opponent's trap. From his limited options Hibachi would prefer the latter.

He put his chakra into his feet and used it to propel himself into the air, right where Sasuke was waiting for him.

The moment Hibachi launched himself into the air, Sasuke was able to precede him by using the Sharingan to read Hibachi's future move.

Lion's Barrage!!!!

Sasuke unleashed a torrent of kicks as he eventually finished with a huge kick which almost sent Hibachi sinking into the floor. However, Hibachi also didn't want to be taken down that easily. Just as the last kick was about to strike him, Hibachi instructed the Blue-Ring Octopus to immobilize Sasuke.

BAMM!!!! Both Hibachi and Sasuke fell to the floor.

Now it was a battle of determination.

The one with the superior determination would win this because after the last confrontation both had suffered some pretty serious injuries.

And in the end, Hibachi was able to stand up while Sasuke was lying on the ground. The effect of the poison that was able to immobilize Orochimaru for a second seemed to be a bit too much for Sasuke.

Hibachi looked at Sasuke with a grin on his face.

"It takes more than just a small beating to end me, you know? Sanada-Sensei's beating is a lot fiercer than yours."

----

- Meanwhile Sanada on the stand -

'Oi Oi Hibachi, can you please keep your mouth shut? Now the other Jonin are gonna give me strange looks you know?' Sanada wanted to cry as he saw the Jonin starting to distance themself from him and even the Third Hokage began to look at him with slight worry in his eyes.

----

Sasuke looked at Hibachi with clear frustration in his eyes. His goal was to defeat Itachi, so how could he tolerate a defeat like this.

Gekkō Hayate and the other Jonin looked at the unbelievable scene playing out in front of their eyes and marveled. Never once had it crossed their minds that the last Uchiha would lose to a civilian.

Hayate was about to announce the winner but this time Hibachi's voice was faster.

" *Cough* I surrender."

BOOMM!!!

Everyone thought they heard it wrong. The civilian that was able to beat the last Uchiha, what kind of trick he was going to pull now?

Hibachi realized that everyone was looking at him full of curiosity, so he continued to explain.

"Actually, after the second stage, I realized that my path and passion isn't to become a ninja. A ninja's life is filled with danger and I have my mom waiting for me at home. The thought of leaving my mom alone after all she'd been through, I just can't think of it as the right decision. So rather than taking a spot in the third stage, wouldn't it be better to give it to my friend over here? After all, all roads lead to Rome, right Sanada Sensei?"

Even though Hibachi said all this, he couldn't help but be nervous when he looked at Sanada. He was afraid that Sanada would be disappointed that he had chosen to forego the path as a ninja and as such he was ready to bear the consequences.

But at this time, an imaginable scene unfolded before Hibachi's eyes. Sanada didn't seem to hold any disappointment at all. Instead, it was full of satisfaction and it felt like they were saying 'Go, choose your own path. You are my cherished disciple, so no matter what path you choose, I will always support you.'

Hibachi's tension was immediately relieved hearing this. His only fear was to disappoint his Sensei who had given him so much, but now, it seemed he was just overthinking it.

'Haha, from your face, it seems like you had predicted this, huh? That is so you, Sanada-Sensei.'

The Jonin and Gekkō Hayate were still dumbfounded with all the things happening. Was the Chunin Exam some kind of playground? , they thought.

While they were still standing in a daze, Hibachi quickly seized this moment to promote himself.

"By the way, everyone. I am currently working at Izakaya Nobu in XXX Street. The food is cheap, but I promise that the taste is superb, so if you have the chance, feel free to come by and visit."

Yup, for the current Hibachi, the restaurant was his lifeline. He had found his passion in cooking. After seeing the happy expressions of everyone that tasted his cooking he felt happy.

It could be said that after some tasks that included killing and bloodbath, the smile of civilians enjoying his food was the thing that healed Hibachi's heart.

And so the first battle of the preliminary stage ended. Just like that. Gekkō Hayate announced that Sasuke was the winner as Hibachi had surrendered and proceeded to escort Sasuke to the upper area.

Of course, there was some dissatisfaction about the result, but since Hibachi himself didn't seem to have any opinions on this the preliminaries could continue.

*Cough-Cough*

"Now that the first battle is over, let's continue to the second battle. Just like before, the electric board will decide the ones participating in the battle."

Gekko Hayate no longer cared about that weird battle. His duty was to be the referee of the preliminaries stage and that was all he should care to do.

The electric board rolled and soon two names were displayed on it.

"The second battle: Zaku Abumi Vs. Shino Aburame"

A few explanations for the battle.

1. Hibachi was able to avoid Orochimaru was because he was not serious in the first few attack, and was only playing around during his second rush of attack.

2. Sasuke was able to hit Hibachi because he had predicted Hibachi's movement. After observing the battle between Hibachi's battle with Orochimaru, Sasuke was able to find the maximum range of Hibachi's substitution, and he made a perfect trap to counter Hibachi.

3. Hibachi will return later, that's all I can say right now ^_^
