Synopsis

I am the instrument of it's will. I am the blade of it's sword. I am the prophet of it's word. I am the light of The Star. I bring the colors that eyes cannot see. I bring sounds that ears cannot hear. I bring that which minds cannot understand. And to this world I bring salvation, such that those deemed worthy will be graced by the kiss of light and those defiant will burn in the crystal flame.

Chapter 1The crystal star that paints the night

I opened my eyes and saw before me an abyss.

A field of darkness. An ocean of nothing. Void in its purest form. And it was beautiful, it was unlike anything I'd ever seen. Emptiness, devoided of all things.

Love is not a word I use lightly but in this moment I was thoroughly smitten. How enchanting it was, unblemished and pure.

It was cute in a way, like a shy lovestruck girl. Before a date she would dress up, not willing to leave a single imperfection on herself, all giddy for a date with the one she loves. It is safe to say I have fallen for her.

If I were able and it was sapient, I would have professed my love in song and poetry and proposed right now. But alas, fate was so cruel to separate us by making the void literally nothing at all. Tears welled up in my eyes as I lamented my fate.

But then the sound of wind chimes rang ever so gently behind me. Turning my head, I saw the darkness wake up and open its eye.

A six-pointed star with a singular crystal eye stared back at me. It shined with every color imaginable and then some more. Even looking at it was a bizarre experience, being 3D, 2D, and 1D all at once and none at the same time. I saw it in 1st-person, 3rd-person, and somehow 2nd-person. Close yet far, I can hold it in the palm of my hand while standing in its infinite plain. Human minds aren't supposed to comprehend something like this.

Then I realized, it had been watching me all my life. From the moment I was first conceived to now. Ah... I am getting shy. You would too if a beautiful girl knew your entire existence from start to end. And this girl was the most beautiful of all.

I am sorry my love but I must leave you for someone else. No, my sweet void it was not your fault, I was just too weak a man to fall for another. Please do not blame yourself.

It was staring at me, unblinking, unmoving. I was wrong it was not a beautiful girl, I was the beautiful girl all along. It was me, it was inside me. But then...who am I?

...I see...

I am its will made manifest. The instruments in its orchestra. That which commands its armies.

It demands a sacrifice, a show of devotion, to prove myself worthy. Very well.

I brought my fingers to my left eye and plunged it into the socket. I grabbed ahold of my eyeball and then ripped it out. Blood vessels and nerves still hanging onto it as I held it in my hand. Then, I ripped out my eye lids as well for good measure.

Where there was once a beautiful dark brown eye there was now a hole from which blood spilled. The torn flesh gave it an eerie feeling, like bottomless abyss made of flesh and blood.

The star seemed pleased. It has accepted my sacrifice. Now for my reward.

The imprint of a four fingered hand seared it self on the right half of my face. A crack started to form on my skin, from my left arm to my right foot. I felt my flesh tearing open along it, my bones snapping to expose my naked heart. Then, it slowly closed back up and diamond threads stitched itself across my skin, sewing the cracked flesh together. Soon, runes started to appear on my right arm, glowing bright then suddenly disappeared. My arm was now just skin carved with runes, there was nothing inside, no bones, no flesh, just a mass of skin somehow holding its shape.

The Star seemed happy I had taken to my new form so well, but now it has a mission for me.

"You have what you need. Now go."

It spoke out loudly inside my mind. And then I was blasted off to my destination.

…..

Upon a peaceful grassy hill laid a boy, just over ten years of age. He had sneaked out to gazed upon the stars. He has always been fascinated by them, their beauty, their mystery. What are they? What secrets do they hold? He wished to know but he doesn't have anyway to know. And so he simply gazed upon the night sky hoping for an answer.

However, today something caught his eye, a new star flickered to life, brighter than any other in the sky. With it came the sound of wind chimes and the smell of … colors?

That can't be right, you can't smell colors. Yet here he was, smelling what seems to be the impossible.

He gazed upon the star again. The longer he looked, the more enamored he became. His heart started to beat heavily, his eyes shined rainbow. His brain moved and twisted inside his skull, shaping its wrinkles into a symbol, a star and an eye.

A new star did not came into being that day. Two did. One stayed quietly in the sky. The other inched closer to the earth.
