33 Chapter 33 : Fight Before First Test
The first fight between Sasuke and Lee was unique, that was the first time anime showed us that cool jutsu is not everything and that we don't always need chakra and unique eyes to be strong.
But at the same time, this fight will also show just how lucky some people are to be born with natural talent or abilities. One of the reasons why Shikamaru in his previous life never liked the Naruto setting as much as he liked the anime itself was the vast disparity between those who have a bloodline. They are born to be better than others.
But then comes one youthful shinobi who can't use Chakra and his equally youthful teacher. Especially his teacher.
A boy born with nothing but just his ambition and a dream. Son of an eternal genin, and what he accomplished.
"He kicks a god to half death," Shikamaru smiled, no matter which world one thing remains the same. Hard work towards a noble cause eventually will give the results. Life might take everything from you in the process but if you can walk in the path of your dream. There is nothing which can stop you.
"Oi Shikamaru why are you smiling like that ?" Choji asked while munching on his chips.
"Oh nothing, looking up to the fight," Shikamaru replied while also tuning out Ino cheering for her Sasuke kun, giving her a side-eye.
The fight started and Sasuke rushed at Lee. He didn't have his Sharingan right now, something which Shikamaru caused with his action, but he was actually kind of aiming for it.
If Sasuke don't have Sharingan then maybe Orochimaru won't target Sasuke. And even if he does then that doesn't matter, as a Uchiha without Sharingan is much easier to handle when defected than with Sharingan. After all the first fight between Naruto and Sasuke in the Valley of the End, Sasuke only won that fight because he opened the third tomoe at the last moment.
The fight started and just like Shikamaru thought, Sasuke was no match for Lee, even with Sharingan he was getting his ass kicked by Lee in the anime, so here it's a no-brainer.
Sasuke rushed at Lee with a simple jab at his solar plexes but Lee with a simple rotation dodged the upcoming attack, Sasuke though was counting on it as he previously saw Lee masterfully countering Naruto's punch and swiping his leg, sending him towards the wall behind like a spinning Beyblade.
He manoeuvres and sends another kick at Lee's face, Lee sees the kicking coming from miles away and blocks it, and at the same time also targets Sasuke's other leg, making him disbalance.
As the fight kept on going, Shikamaru just got bored, he clearly saw Lee holding back trying to see why Sasuke was not as good as he thought he would be. Both Sasuke and Shikamaru could see the disappointed look on Lee's face, making one smirk while the other was infuriated.
Shikamaru after some time just had enough of it and was about to leave, but that was when something cool happened. Sasuke started to dodge Lee's attacks, making him once again focus on the fight.
"Sharingan," Shika mutters in a low voice, contemplating whether that guy opens his eyes by getting one one-sided beating from Lee. If it was that easy then wouldn't the now-dead Uchiha clan member have beaten all their kids to death a long time ago?
'Troublesome, and here I was counting on him not opening his eyes. Whatever, what I can't control, I shouldn't worry about,' Shikamaru just internally clicked his tongue and get going. No need to waste time here, Sharingan or no Sharingan, the outcome of this spar is decided.

Upon entering the exam room, Shikamaru saw many shinobi there, easily more than 100 participants. But he doesn't care about them. His attention was only on 4 people there.
Two falls in the category of not to mess with, like Orochimaru and Gaara. Well Orochimaru wasn't there, there is no way he will take this exam. Mostly he replaced himself with the Kunoichie he used in the anime after this test was done.
Another one was definitely Gaara, he didn't want to run into the Sand Team if he could do anything about it. He already plans to put his toad and Nue on this duty. Having an eye on everyone's position is not possible but as long as he can track one special individual then it's fine.
Those two above-mentioned names are the ones whom he doesn't want to mess with. But there are shinobi who he wants to mess with.
Uzumaki Karin and Yakushi Kabuto. One he wants to save and possibly bring to his own camp while the other he will assassinate.
Kabuto is the most troublesome kind of a guy in Naruto, the only good thing about this guy is that he is relatively easy to kill as long as he plans well. While Kabuto's self-proclaimed claim of being equal to Kakashi is questionable before the time skip, he is strong and potentially a special Jonin.
Shikamaru has to make a plan to take him down.
Seeing that his team started a casual chat with Team 7 and others, Shikamaru didn't say anything, soon even Kabuto came to show off his magic cards.
"Give me information about Gaara of the Sand, Rock Lee and Shikamaru Nara from Konoha," Then he heard Sasuke asking for his own information. Finally, he got interested. This means that the guy is seeing himself as a competition.
But what he really got interested in is whether Kabuto had any information on him. The general info is out there for any spy to take but what about the hidden data which both his father and Hokage himself blacklisted?
"Oh you know their names, that's just too easy, " Kabuto replied with his big brotherly smile, if only they knew.
"Gaara of the sand, Teammates Temari and Kankuro, Jonin Sensei Baki. completed 18 C rank, 5 B rank, 4 A rank and even 1 S rank mission and above all, all the time he came out from the mission without any injuries." A collective gasp was heard.
"Rock Lee from Konoha, Teammates Neji Hyuga and Tenten, Joinin Sensei Might Guy. Completed 21 C rank missions, 4 B rank missions and even 1 A rank mission. He can't do any Ninjutsu but has mastered the strong fist style, taught by his teacher the Konoha's Taijutsu specialist. He himself is a Taijutsu Specialist." Kabuto continued. After many unsures eyes roamed around and calm themself down. Kabuto Continued.
"Lastly, Shikamaru Nara, Teammates Ino Yamanaka and Choji Akimichi, Jonin sensei Asuma Sarutobi. Completed 8 C ranks, 2 B rank and 2 A rank missions. They are a new team, this generation of INOCHIKACHO. Shikamaru is good with his clan shadow manipulation with above-average IQ like many Nara. Although the guy seems to be pretty lazy, again nothing different from a Nara who agreed that this trait of that clan is not as widespread." Kabuto completed his information making Sasuke lick his tongue at semi-accurate information at best but he didn't say anything.
Shikamaru although couldn't decide whether to presume that Kabuto didn't know about him or just lying, so he didn't come to any estimation.
While also gripping Naruto by the mouth to stop the idiot who wanted to yell to the class how awesome Shikamaru's shadow pets were.
"Troublesome Blondes," Shikamaru just could shake his head at his life.
