On his fourth birthday, Naruto suffers a vicious beating from the villagers and ninjas after information was released that he held the Kyuubi. During the beating, Naruto wasn't able to handle the pain inflicted upon him, so he died, but as quickly as it happened, a new soul inhabited his body.
