16 Chapter 16 - Clash of Armies

A few hours after being patched up and resting to restore his chakra. Kagami, despite still finding it hurt to move, found himself moving to the defense line the camp is making. Next to him Mira was in a similar position as were quite a few who were wrapped in a few bandages.

Walking up trees or digging into the ground, various traps were being deployed. While he still questioned the legitimacy of the order, Kagami still carried out his duty. For they were clearly outnumbered and most probably going to be wiped out.

"Are we going to die?" Mira asked.

Kagami paused momentarily before he asked his own question, "Do you want the truth or lie?"

"I will take the lie." Mira answered almost imminently.

Kagami shook his head but gave the lie anyway. "We are all going to be fine and return to the village. Then this war will end and peace across the elemental nations will last for hundreds of years."

"...and the truth."

"We are all going to die horribly or be captured to become Sunagakure play things."

"I think I prefer the lie." Mira muttered.

"Well there is the slimmest chance we will survive." Kagami said as he continued preparing traps.

"I don't think so." Mira said as she tapped his arm.

Looking up to see what she was pointing at. Kagami felt his heart nearly beat out of his chest as hundreds of Suna shinobi raced towards them in formation. Then he heard the camp bell rings signaling an enemy attack.

Pulling out his sword and feeling the wounds stinging as he prepared to fight. Kagami saw that Mira was similar to him as they made their way to their position among the lines of genin who were placed in front. Since they after all made up the most number with chunin and jonin spaced out among them.

It didn't take long before the enemy appeared before them. Charging forward, Kagami looked at Mira who nodded as the point of the enemy side headed straight for them. As she flashed a couple hand seals, Kagami clapped his hands.

"Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation."

"Wind Release: Great Breakthrough."

In an instant a small line of fire exited Kagami's mouth before it turned into a raging sea of flames. A flame that grew more hot and deadly as Mira wind joined it forming a collaboration jutsu ending in a massive amount of screams as many found themselves engulfed. While a few attempted to dodge or block but found their attempts futile as they didn't have enough strength to completely block it.

Thus, in an instant nearly fifty Suna shinobi's were wiped out with over a hundred having burns of different degrees. However, this attack also left Kagami and Mira using about a third of their already half depleted chakra. Then an explosion began to appear as the traps began to activate, thinning the invading Suna shinobi.

Sadly despite taking out a few hundred how can it make a dent in the incoming couple thousand. Thus, gripping his sword, Kagami stood by Mira's side as they braced themselves to prepare to enter the incoming swarm.

A swarm that charged in as many of those next to them fell quickly as both Mira and Kagami began reaping as many Suna shinobi as they could. Which sadly wasn't one sided as they liked as more cuts and wounds began to appear as they danced on the edge of life.

If Kagami had to say, both his and Mira's experience with the Sharingan improved immensely. For they adjusted to them quickly as they narrowly dodged a few would be fatal blows. Catching a flying kunai that had a explovie tag attached from the air that was heading towards Mira. Kagami pulled it off and slapped it on a Suna chunin.

Kicking the chunin away into his friends, it set off killing them as Kagami continued. His eyes flickering between the shinobi who were trying to kill him as well keeping an eye on Mira. So before he knew it, his Sharingan soon evolved into three tomoe.

"Die you brats." a Suna shinobi roared.

However, these words didn't last long as a yellow lightning appeared next to a three pointed kunai. Then in a grand entrance a man with blonde hair appeared slamming him into the ground with a blue ball in hand. Before the man disappeared once again near another leaving a trail of yellow lightning.

"Minato." Kagami softly said.

However, despite Minato appearing on the battlefield, the incoming shinobi weren't slowing down. So, both him and Mira were left resisting the best they could as they grew tired. Finally after nearly an half an hour passed since the beginning, the signal for retreat appeared. Hence, both sides retreated and after the Suna shinobi retreated, Kagami sat down as Mira panted heavily nearby.

Looking around them, corpses of both sides littered the scene from young genin to jonin who could have retired. Many seemed to not have an intact body while others seemed to die in a single strike.

Pulling out the bandages from his kit once again, Kagami began to dress Mira wounds again. Since he didn't know when a medical nin would be able to treat them. Since judging by the scene if they weren't dead the medical nin would be severely understaffed even more.

"It hurts." Mira lightly hissed as he applied disinfected and antidotes for various poisons to her wounds.

Since it was highly possible that the Suna shinobi had coated their weapons in them. Kagami didn't want either him or Mira to die because of it. So after finishing up, he patched himself up as best he could. While ignoring the stinging as he went to stand up and help Mira up so they could return to camp.

After returning to camp and given a once over by the medical nin who carelessly cleared them. For he just ran a light test and determined that neither was poison or going to die anytime soon. He moved onto the next patient.

"Do you think we will return to the village?" Mira asked.

Neither her nor him were in good condition at this time and would need a period of time to recuperate. So, it would make sense for them to return to the village to rest up for this time period. However, Kagami doubted they could as they were some of the few that could still move about at a moderate pace.

"It's doubtful." Kagami answered as a blonde man appeared before them once more.

The man had golden hair and wore the jonin standard uniform. Recognizing the man as his neighbor and half teacher, Kagami's eyes soon looked behind him. Since behind him, a boy who seemed about twelve stood silently. His eyes seem lifeless and his silver hair shot off to the side as he wore the jonin vest.

"Hello, Minato."
