Konoha Academy - Exam Room

Naruto was bored, that much was certain. He had finished the first test of the chunin exam within the first ten minutes. Granted these weren't questions that an ordinary genin would know, but then again Naruto wasn't normal by any stretch of the imagination. It had been quite obvious to the ravenette that the whole point of the test was to cheat, based on the two point reduction every time they were caught instead of outright failing them. However, these questions were so mundane to him that he didn't have to cheat.

He looked to his right out of the corner of his eye and saw Satsuki furiously scribbling down answers while copying the pencil movements of the boy sitting in front of her with her sharingan active. Naruto's eyes then moved in front of him where Hana was seated. He didn't know what she had planned, but he knew that she was too smart to not realize what this test was all about. Yes, his team would be fine.

The young man still had almost an hour to kill before the tenth question was given out, so he started to use his Kenbunshoku Haki to listen to the 'voices' of everyone in the room to see who his real competition would be.

The first one he sensed was a young woman with long black hair wearing a straw hat and a Kusa hitai-ate. She didn't look like anything special or stand out that much, but her chakra was what really made Naruto take note of her. She was suppressing it well, but nothing could escape Naruto's Haki. Her chakra was incredibly dark and sinister. She had large reserves, larger than most jonin in Konoha. Obito probably had the same amount as her. This woman was no genin. This woman wasn't even a woman at all. Naruto had immediately figured out this was Orochimaru. He could actually feel the malicious emotions rolling off of him.

'I expected him to be in Konoha but not actually participate in the chunin exams. From what I heard the invasion is supposed to start during the third stage. What could he possibly gain from this?'

He decided he wouldn't dwell on the matter for now, after all Minato already knew of Orochimaru's presence in Konoha. He had overheard Jiraiya discussing the matter with Minato while he was walking by the Hokage Tower while using his Kenbunshoku Haki. Naruto had actually been on his way to inform the Hokage when he came upon this development. It certainly made things easier and people would be less suspicious of him.

There were several other strong presences in the room, however, none of them were much of a threat. There were several Kiri nin and that Suna nin Gaara. They were probably the strongest genin in the room. He could feel that the female Kiri nin was proficient in Hyoton, which was unusual. She had a calm and soothing aura to her. The second one was a boy with blue hair, glasses and sharp teeth. He had to have been one of the new sordsmen that was chosen. The third was a boy with white hair, purple eyes, and sharp teeth. Naruto felt that he had powers similar to his own, but they were far more diluted.

'So he must be from the Hozuki clan. Did a member of the Hozuki eat a chakra fruit generations ago?...If they did the fruit must have genetically mutated the genes and given them there abilities to liquify and their suiton...I know just how to deal with them then.' Naruto thought with a smirk present on his face.

Though what did interest him was that man, Kabuto.

Kabuto claimed to have taken the exams seven times and then willingly gave out information to the rest of the rookie 13. There was no was a person could fail that many times, and even if they did, they probably would have received field promotions just to get them out of the genin ranks. Then there was the fact that he had jonin level chakra reserves. Everything was suspicious about him, but if his current record continued he would drop out right after the second exam.

Now that he had sized up his competition, Naruto's thoughts then drifted to himself. He had been working on a few ideas he had for jutsu since snow country and had fully mastered them last week. The sharingan user didn't want to reveal his abilities with Katon jutsu until the third round. If he did, he would give his opponents too much time to think of a counter strategy. Not that it would really make a difference.

He was likely the only one of the rookies who knew about the layout of the Konoha chunin exams. The first exam was always a written test. It was supposed to test your skills in information gathering and courage to move on when there was no good choice on a mission. Naruto figured that is what the tenth question would be. The second stage was usually in the forest of death and would be a free for all kind of team battle royal. Something along those lines. After that would be the preliminary rounds if there were too many teams who made it out of the forest. These would be one on one matches. Then finally after a month long break the chunin exam finals would be held in the colosseum.

All in all the exam shouldn't be too difficult for him. The only reason he knew all of this was because they kept the records in the public library. Seriously? Was his team the only one to do any research on what they were getting themselves into?

With the way all of the other rookie teams reacted, you would think that nobody had told them what the hell the atmosphere would be like or how serious the chunin exams were. Team 11 had gotten there early and took a seat near the front of the classroom, giving them a perfect seat to watch how their classmates would react.

It was an embarrassing sight for any Konoha genin to say the least. They were acting so loud and obnoxious in front of some of the world's most prominent genin and they were fooling around yelling about their days in the academy and screaming about love. They looked as they were going to piss themselves as they were hit by a small wave of killing intent from the other genin. Naruto had actually face palmed when Nawaki walked up in front of everyone and declared that he was the strongest and would take on everyone in the room.

They were related? Seriously? The embarrassment didn't last long though because the proctors of the exam showed up right after that.

Naruto was brought out of his thoughts when he heard the man, Ibiki, speaking once again.

"Alright you maggots! It's time for the tenth and final question!"
