Chapter 5: The Perfect Act II

...........

"If you look for perfection, you'll never be content." ~ Leo Tolstoy

Isaac truly believed that he got over the most troublesome thing about perfectionism, the hesitation that always accompanied him, stopping him from achieving anything.

However, why are his clones just like he was? He didn't spend a lifetime being a loser just to repeat the same process in this fabulous new world... His clones seem to want to.

"Making up for the lack of some specific chakra natures with hard work?" A clone mused upon hearing Isaac's words.

"The combined hard work of all of us," A different clone nodded in understanding, "However, as you said, the shadow clone jutsu as it is now is simply not enough to serve our needs."

"Thus why we need to perfect the jutsu," Isaac nodded, "The future depends mostly on this precious jutsu, so any ideas?"

"Perfect the jutsu," A clone's eyes shone as he murmured, "Well, making it so we can upload specific memories directly to you would be a start."

"That does mostly solve the problem of having to deal with all the memories transferred at once," Another clone nodded, "If that's possible, we should also be able to transfer chakra between each other."

"You guys..." A different clone eyed the two with scrutinizing eyes, "Why are your ambitions so minuscule? We should vie to create something akin to an omniscient mind that can control the clones all at once."

"Brilliant idea!" One of the most extreme clones nodded with a laugh, "However, a single mind simply can not handle such a load, so would it be possible to link the mental capabilities of all the clones together?"

"Seems plausible," The cautious clone nodded, "However, we seem to be ignoring the flaws of the technique. If several clones were destroyed at once, the load the main body would have to handle would be too much and it can potentially be dangerous."

"You have a solution?"

"Of course, that's all I have been thinking about," The cautious clone nodded solemnly, "I've thought of a rough description of a jutsu that would help, called the Mind Palace. We can upload our memories directly to the palace after which the main mind can choose to accept them or not."

"We can also use it to sort our memories, to act as an eternal palace for our memories."

"Indeed, there is too much knowledge in the world for us to always remember, at least not before Godhood."

"Moreover," The cautious clone wasn't done just yet, "We should continue to perfect our chakra control until we can preferably transform into something as small as water bears, or even microscopic creatures."

"I don't know if that is plausible as a short-term goal," The skeptical clone shook his head, "I don't even know if the transformation technique is capable of that in the first place."

"I tend to agree. Transforming into microscopic creatures would make us mostly unkillable, but that would divert our focus from shadow clone jutsu and it might take years."

"We should also solve the chakra problem for the clones. After all, we can not regenerate chakra, so we should start research on Nature energy soon. Maybe we can recover chakra through it."

"You know how a single hit can destroy the clones?" Isaac also added, "We should implement a mechanism that uses all of that specific clone's energy to create another clone."

"Hm? How about taking it further and setting up a destruction mechanism on the clones? The specific clone also has full control over the degree of destruction lest we set off nuclear bombs everywhere."

"You all seem to be missing the point," The most vain of clones finally spoke, "Why should we allow our perfect self to be destroyed when we can create immortal clones? Think about how clones are made, chakra. Why are they destroyed easily? Because attacks disturb the normal operation of a clone's chakra. What if we can keep our chakra undisturbed? What if we can reconstruct it at a moment's notice?"

The discussion continued and continued, and it didn't seem to be ending anytime soon, most clones were not satisfied in the least with their ideas, still far from perfect and still hesitating.

'Heartwarming,' Isaac couldn't help but smile as he watched the clones argue. They remind him of his immature self, yet only his immature self would think of such amazing ideas.

"Alright, some silence please," However, he had to stop them at some point, or else it would never end, "We'll think of ideas and perfect them for the next few hours. No matter the result, we'll compile a list sorted by plausibility and then begin our work, else we'll never start."

In general, every person's chakra has an affinity towards one or more of the five basic nature transformations.

Affinity can at times be genetic, or at least common to a particular family; most members of the Uchiha clan have an affinity towards the Fire nature, just like Isaac whose chakra nature is fire and lightning.

However, Shinobi have an easier time learning to create and control a chakra nature that matches their affinity, although even then it may take a number of years.

Therefore, Isaac's solace was shadow clone jutsu, using the advantage of numbers to make up for his lack of affinity in other natures. Isaac certainly wouldn't settle for something less than perfection.

It was just like the perfect image he showed for the past point and basically the next year until the end of the first year of school.

"You still can't do it?" Isaac wondered strangely.

"Sorry," The one to respond was none other than Kurenai Yuhi, another of Isaac's classmates.

"Don't apologize, just work harder," Isaac shook his head as he took a seat by her, "Alright, what's the problem?"

"I have trouble maintaining illusion techniques, specifically, the false surrounding technique," Kurenai explained, "If I get distracted for even a second, the techniques dissipate."

"That should be a problem of focus and multi-tasking, not something I can teach, but something you'll learn as you continue to get used to such techniques," Isaac murmured in deep thought, "Try sparring with one of our classmates while maintaining the technique until it becomes instinct."

Kurenai's eyes brightened as she nodded repeatedly with a smile, saying with gratitude, "Thank you."

If Isaac wanted to respond or say anything, he couldn't as he was interrupted by quite the loud voice, "Isaac! I am challenging you again!!"

"Asuma? Again?" Isaac raised a brow in annoyance, 'Such nuisance... Yeah, he definitely has a crush on Kurenai. Does he think I do too?'

"Asuma! Stop it!" Kurenai found herself having to interfere.

"Why? It's just a discussion!" Asuma retorted, "Dad taught me a new ninjutsu to defeat you!"

"You say that every day!" Kurenai fired back in annoyance.

"How many times do I have to tell you!" Surprisingly, the source of the voice was Obito as he continued, "You have to go over me first before challenging Isaac!"

"Alright, guys! No need to fight over something so meaningless," Isaac shook his head as he stood up, "We only have a few days left before the end of the first year, so if you have any doubts, share them and we'll work together to overcome them!"

The teachers pretty much left them to do their own thing in these last few days, taking the classroom as their playground.

Therefore, Isaac was often the one to reach and guide them, gaining the admiration and love of his classmates. In fact, his reputation extended to the whole school.

"And class dismissed!" After a while, Isaac ended class, not forgetting to remind them, "Also, please don't forget to visit Kakashi if you can. I heard he'll be graduating early, so we may not get the chance to say our condolences to him."

The air turned a bit depressing upon hearing his words. Not long ago, they heard that Kakashi's father, the hero of the village, Sakumo Hatake took his own life, leaving Kakashi parentless.

And it's not the first time this happened to one of their classmates. First, it was Isaac, then two other individuals experienced similar grief, and finally, Kakashi got to experience it as well.

The students soon dispersed, the only ones still staying together were Obito, Rin, and Guy. They agreed before to visit Kakashi as they're some of the closest people to him.

Kakashi was away from school for two weeks, and Isaac befitting of the most considerate person in class had already visited him, so he made his way back home... Only stop halfway there, "Kakashi?"

"How did you sense me?" Kakashi appeared from a nearby alleyway, walking toward Isaac as he questioned.

"I am a Uchiha," Isaac responded naturally, "What are you doing here?"

"Are you really going to continue school?" Kakashi responded with a question, "I know you can graduate early."

"I... I can," Isaac nodded, "But I am still confused about the future I want to pursue. I don't trust myself with making the right decision right now."

"Decision? What decision is there to be made?" Kakashi was confused as after graduation, one becomes a shinobi, or is there an alternative?

"Hmm," Isaac let out an optimistic smile, "I am thinking of pursuing medical ninjutsu and research. I want to use my talent to improve this world instead of just mindless killing."

"You..." Kakashi realized his mistake. He wanted Isaac to graduate early so as to have his rival keep up with him, but he underestimated Isaac's mental.

Isaac's goals and aspirations were very different from his. He may be even more of a genius than him, but his character is very noble and kind, dissuading him from pursuing the 'glorious' life of ninjas.

"Obito, Rin, and Guy are on their way to visit you right now. Don't keep them waiting," Isaac left a few last words before heading home.
