1 Chapter 1 - Prologue

"Where am I?"

Shin awoke, surrounded by a world of darkness. The ground beneath him was golden.

Pressing a hand to his forehead, he last recalled the beeps of horn and screams of passersby, and when he had turned, he saw a truck that was heading right for him …

He must have died then, and in such a stupid way as well. He was just 15 years old.

Shin's family was poor, and unlike the other children of his age; he had to take on odd jobs at night when school ended. Since young, it had always been that way for him, working to pay off the debt his missing dad had left them before.

His throat constricted at the thought of how hurt his mother would be when she heard the news. There was also Mizuki as well; she was only 10 years old, and she would have to deal with the loss of her brother …

"Hi there~" An alluring voice rang out from behind.

"Who's there!" Shin turned around to see a young lady, draped in white robes, walking towards him.

"Everyone that comes here always gives the same few responses …" the girl sighed. "Alright, let's get this over with. I have a movie to catch with the other goddesses. So hurry and tell me what world you wish to reincarnate in, which character you wish to be, and a power that you want."

Shin kept quiet. From what the girl had said earlier, he was now probably in some kind of place that housed the afterlife; and she was offering him a second chance at life with a perk that he could choose. That meant the girl was an incredibly powerful being, in this case …

"Can I ask for something else instead?"

The girl cocked her head to one side. "Oh?"

"My family … they're still trapped in debt thanks to our father who left us when I was still a child." he bowed his head slightly. "Are you able to help them with that?"

"Well yes. But …"

"But?"

The girl wagged a finger, "You'll have to forfeit your rights to choose the world, character, and power you want in this case. Are you sure you want to ask for that? You're dead anyway and will be reborn in a new family, why bother about your past? You could ask to reincarnate as the God-Emperor in 40k with immortality or to become Issei in Dxd with God-like powers if you need some suggestions. Those are quite popular ones. "

"Well … I never really had the chance to spend time in entertainment like my peers as I had to work. I only know the names of the more popular anime when my classmates discussed it, but I wouldn't be privy to the details. Besides, I can never forget my family, no matter where I go."

The corner of the girl's lips curled upwards. "You're really an interesting person, Shin. I've taken a liking to you. Very well, I will do what you have requested."

"T-Thank you."

Shin felt a load being lifted off his chest, and he crumpled to the ground. At least his mother and sister would no longer have to continue living through that hell of a life anymore.

"Nonetheless, appearing here dictates you still must be reincarnated. While you have forfeited your rights to choose, I can still lend you a little helping hand." The girl flicked her hand, and a golden oval-shaped space materialized right beside her.

"Helping hand?"

"Step through this portal, and you will similarly reincarnate in a new world as a character with a power. However, the world and the person you reincarnate in, as well as the ability you receive will be random. That's the best I can help you with."

"I suppose that's better than nothing. Thanks."

With a flick of her hand, the girl summoned a small golden wheel floating beside her that started spinning. When it had stopped, she let out a cute gasp.

"Yahiko and .... Heavenly Rinnegan. That's some insane luck. Looks like you'll be reincarnating in the world of Naruto. To think you actually got the strongest Rinnegan variant created by our Supreme Emperor. That pervert probably never expected any reincarnators to get any powers from his stash."

"Rinne ... gan? What do you mean? What's that?"

"You'll find out soon enough as soon as the system power for it awakens alongside it. Since I've already bent the rules a little to help you, you have to leave right now. I can't let the other Goddesses catch me doing this. Bye-bye!"

"Wai-"

His body was lifted off the ground by some mysterious force, and he saw himself being flung right into the golden portal ...

"Dear, It's a boy!"

Shin opened his eyes to see a woman holding him in her arms. She had long, flowing black hair and brown eyes. A wide smile was on her face, and she was brushing his cheeks.

"Your dream came true." A voice came from a burly, well-built man who stood beside her. He bent down and gave her a kiss.

"What shall we call him?"

"I've already thought of a name." the man gave Shin's head a pat. "Let's call him Yahiko."

The pat was annoying! He wasn't a kid. Yahiko tried to speak but …

"Ga ga."

Only weird noises came out.

Worry began to lace the woman's face. "Is something wrong with our child? I've never heard of a baby not crying when they are born …"

A third voice spoke.

"This is strange. I've been helping many people in our village for childbirth over the years. There has never been a newborn baby that didn't cry."

B-baby?

Shin was in disbelief. He watched on as the three adults began to talk something about getting the village doctor to come over. The one lying on the bed, holding him gently, was definitely his mum. While the other two adults that were standing near him were mostly likely the midwife and his father.

It was ridiculous, but his senses told him that everything was real. The feeling of the warmth that was cuddling him and squeezing his cheeks, there was no way it was a lie. The size of his arms and legs … and the fact he couldn't even articulate a syllable properly.

He really had been reincarnated and born again in a new world. From here on, he was no longer Shin. He was Yahiko.

=====

(Timeskip - some years later)

Yahiko had long assimilated himself into his daily life. His father, Reigi, and mother, Shirumi, were simple people. They worked as farmers in a small village. The country they lived in was known as the Hidden Rain, and just as the name suggested; it was a place that rained often.

He had also gained an understanding of the world from the time he had spent here. It was a world dominated by people known as shinobis. In their tiny country, Amegakure, people who were shinobi were highly valued and able to stay in the capital.

Unfortunately, his parents did not fall under the category, and so they had to stay far away from the area in a small village; near a border shared with the Earth Country. His family was poor and as soon as he was fit enough, their parents got him to help out with their job.

He wouldn't complain though despite the tough life. His parents were very loving to him, and allowed Yahiko to experience the warmth of a complete family for the first time; something he never had in his last world. At least his dad wasn't a jerk like the one in his previous world that abandoned his mum for a young chick.

There was also the issue of the Heavenly Rinnegan the goddess mentioned to him before. He wouldn't forget something so important. But unfortunately despite his efforts, he couldn't find any traces of the power in his body. What was it anyway … did he have to awaken it or something?

He didn't have much knowledge about the Narutoverse either. The only thing he knew was from the conversations his classmates used to have about it - There was a boy called Naruto who would later become Hokage. That was the only information Yahiko had.

If he wanted to survive, he would have to watch out for that person. While he didn't know much about anime and stories, messing with the main protagonist was definitely not a good idea. They always had some insane plot armor, and Naruto would probably have that as well.

"Yahiko, it's time for dinner!"

"Coming!"

He ran into the kitchen and jumped onto the chair. He had been hard at work the whole day, and his mum's cooking was simply the best thing in the world.

"Yahiko." his dad sat down opposite him. "Now that you're old enough. I think it's time for you to attend the academy in the capital."

His eyes lit up. The ninja academy! If he could become a shinobi, their family's life would improve, and they would be able to stay in the capital.

"But I thought we didn't have the money for it?" Yahiko said.

"Your mum and I have been saving up for this day." his dad looked lovingly at him. "There isn't much of a future living life like us."

"But don't be too hard on yourself if you don't make it. You may try and fail, but never fail to try. I didn't graduate from the ninja academy when I was young. I'm sure you'll definitely do better than me." His mother chuckled.

"Mum, dad … Thank you ..." Yahiko met their gaze.

He understood the reason now why they had been so tight with their limited finances over the years, trying to save money whenever possible. This was all so that they could send him to study at the academy.

Warmth filled the pit of his stomach. He would definitely train and study hard at the academy - to graduate as a genin and make them proud.

It was then, a loud explosion rang through the air.

"Stay here. Both of you." His dad stood tall. "I'll go check what's going on."

A sense of foreboding rose within him. He couldn't say why, but something was telling him this wasn't the usual accident that happened in the village.

"Mum, I have a bad feeling about this. Maybe we should ask dad to come back." Yahiko said.

"Don't worry. He'll be fine. It's probably just one of the houses catching fire." she reassured him. "You should eat up."

He nodded. Such incidents weren't uncommon in their villages. The majority of the people that lived here were poor, and the living conditions were simply awful. It was usual for accidents like that to break out once in a while.

They continued their conversation, and soon Yahiko learned some interesting things about his mother for the first time.

"So you failed to graduate … because you couldn't afford to pay the school fees?" he said.

"Yes, a recession happened when I was in my final year. My family couldn't afford the cost, and I got kicked out because of that. I was actually quite the kunoichi back then." she said cheekily. "But this time, we've saved up enough for you. And we'll be making a one-time payment to cover the full duration of your time there. So there's no risk."

"Mum I-"

The door slammed open. He turned to see his dad standing shakily at the entrance, clutching a bleeding arm; injuries all over his body.

"Dear!" his mother quickly ran over and put an arm around his father's shoulder to support him.

"S-shinobi from the Hidden Stone have invaded the village." his dad coughed out a mouthful of blood. "Find somewhere in the house to hide … HURRY!"

A/N: The current plan is to include 5-6 more new chapters in the beginning. Which will briefly run through Yahiko's childhood and growth. I don't plan to spend too much time on that. Afterward, it will be back to the deleted chapters which will be modified to different extents, once we get to that point the releases will be a lot faster.

The purpose of including a few new chapters, in the beginning, is to do a bit of world-building and also include the interaction between Yahiko, Konan, Nagato as well as our beloved Pervy Sage when he meets and trains them.

Since the new Yahiko starts off as a baby this means inevitably some parts of the original plot will have to be modified to different extents(that's why the chapters are deleted.)
