Chapter 33: Reflexes and Sense Training

Ken had just given the mid term exam. It was pretty easy. He got full marks just like Itachi. But he knew Itachi would have scored more if there was no upper limit in marks.

Itachi was better than him in taijutsu and shurikenjutsu.

While he was better than Itachi at Ninjutsu, the academy does not teach or test ninjutsu in the first year sadly.

Speaking of Itachi, Ken might have told him to have regular medical checkups to prevent any bacteria, virus or disease spreading to the people you are close to.

Itachi immediately had a check up after he realised that he would be endangering his little brother sasuke if he had a disease with him.

After careful observation, it was noticed that Itachi had some sort of lung disease which if not treated when young would be deadly in the future.

Fugaku hired the best medical nin that he could find and have them do the surgery on Itachi to cure him.

'That's how you save one of the most badass characters from their fate by saying just one line. Are not I the greatest genius or what?' Ken thought smugly

Right now, Ken was training his six senses with Mukai.

"Today, We would work on your sense of sight and reflexes. Even if you see an attack coming but if you could not dodge it in time, it would result in you getting injured or worse death. You need to act upon what you sense in a matter of less than a second. Your brain is not fast enough to decide a plan on its own during such situations in such little time. Your body must act on its own to protect you from the attack. You can call it the reflex action of your body to protect harm to it. My training would also help you improve your sixth sense which is Intuition or danger sense too." Mukai explained Ken

Ken understood its importance. Body reflex was neccessary for a shinobi. In a high paced battle, he is bound to miss something and it's his body's responsibility to protect it from something that is too fast for him to see or too many to count.

Mukai had prepared an obstacle course for Ken.

The obstacle course was filled with challenges that tested Ken's agility and quick thinking. Mukai wanted Ken's body to adapt to such movements.

'It's kinda like a super weak version of ultra instinct.' Ken thought amused

In the distance, a series of shuriken and kunai were suspended on strings, swaying like pendulums. Ken's task was to dodge them while making his way through the course.

Mukai shouted, "Go!" and Ken dashed forward, narrowly avoiding the first set of swinging shuriken. His small frame moved with surprising grace as he leaped, ducked, and rolled to avoid the sharp projectiles.

"What the hell, should not you be using wooden shurinkens and Kunais instead of real ones?" Ken shouted dodging rhe projectiles

"Don't sweat it, they are dull. Besides, wooden kunai would not be dangerous to you which would hamper your danger sense training." Mukai said to which Ken only grunt in anger.

Ken sprinted forward. With lightning-quick reflexes, he gracefully leaped over a set of swinging shuriken, his tiny frame defying gravity.

The kunai swung low, forcing Ken to perform a somersault to avoid them. He rolled and tumbled like a seasoned acrobat, narrowly avoiding each threat with a combination of flips and cartwheels.

Ken then had to leap onto a log and had to balance like a tightrope walker, avoiding the concealed tripwires set by Mukai. Ken giggled as he tiptoed, arms flailing comically for balance. Suddenly, a swinging log swung his way, and with a panicked yelp, Ken ducked and rolled beneath it, narrowly avoiding being knocked off.

After some time, he finished the course.

"Good job. Now let me reset the traps so that you can do it another two times." Mukai said

"What the...." Ken could only curse at his misfortune.

After he had completed the course two more time, it was time for him to train his other senses.

Ken had a blindfold on. As Mukai had him smell one thing after another and had him ask what was what.

"This is the smell of burned leaves."

"What is this?"

"Rabbit Meat"

"What is this?"

"Ughh what the hell that is human pee. Why are you even making me smell that?" Ken asked closing his nose.

"During a tracking mission, an enemy shinobi would surely pee in the wild and you would have to smell it to track him down. You will also have to differentiate it from pees from other animals" Mukai said while holding another four vials of different animals pee.

"Why did i sign up for this thing again?"

Ken cried

He also has to smell some poisons to prevent amyone from poisoning him or to know which poison he is being poisoned with so he can use the right antidote.

He also had to taste poisons in a very very small dosage to distinguish the poisons and find whether the food has poison or not.

Then he has to try to hear different conversations between people in the market area. He also had to distinguish their voices.

He did several other activities to train his senses to the limit.

At this point that he could say without having the ability of using the 'chakra field' which every sensor had without a bloodline or a clan secret technique, he is a good enough sensor who couls use his natural senses to sense his enemy.
