Glimpse of Potential

"Finally!" 

I excitedly shouted. I had finally gotten the hold of how to throw kunai and shurikens. 

A grin etched on my face.

The teacher had made me stay after school and I did stay, he taught me the fundamentals before letting me go and also gave me a scroll of fundamentals of shurikenjutsu. 

I searched the Senju library and to my surprise there were no shurikenjutsu scrolls. There were few jutsus but not the fundamental aspect like how to throw it. 

TING

I felt a chakra signature entering the Senju Compound. This much chakra.

It must be Hiruzen. 

My guess was right as I saw a figure walking towards my direction. He walked a little before disappearing appearing ten steps closer. 

He now stood in front of me. 

"What's up old man?"

Even though I spoke in a very informal way I still bowed to him. 

"I am fine, Gin although I will prefer you calling me gramps."

The previous me from when I could talk first and recognize people used to call Hiruzen old man. This simple way of talking did deepen our relation. 

"So why are you here?"

"I am just here to give you company." 

I nodded. 

He continued. "Come here."

I stood right beside him, and he held my wrists and I felt everything go blur. 

I opened my eyes a good thirty seconds later. We were in a different place. We were on top of a cliff looking down at the large forest. It was a beautiful view. 

I could see the rivers and small waterfall. 

"Why are we here?"

"I am here to teach you a few things."

"You sure have a lot of time in your hands eh!"

"I don't. You are just a special case."

Special huh. I felt happy and proud being labelled as 'special'.

"So, what are you going to teach me?"

"Well...First why don't you first start by sensing what's around you?"

What's around me? 

"Close your eyes."

I closed my eyes and started spreading my chakra around. 

"Stop."

Hm? I opened my eyes and looked at me. He was not looking at me. He had an impassive expression looking at the distant sky. 

"What?"

He stayed silent for two seconds before answering. "Do not sense by using your chakra. Feel what's around you."

"You mean I have to sense using Natural Energy?"

"Exactly. While sensing you should not be the painter, be the observer." 

The observer huh. 

"Close your eyes." 

I closed my eyes once again. I did not spread my chakra but instead tried to feel the natural energy. 

Meditating.

...

I kept on meditating. I did not hear a single word from Hiruzen. I closed my eyes and slowly I started to feel it. 

A foreign energy.

Maybe due to my previous life, I could feel all the differences in the energies circulating in the surrounding. 

As I slowly felt more of this energy, I sensed a vast chakra just right beside me. 

Hiruzen. 

My focus broke due to his vast chakra. 

I opened my eyes. 

Hiruzen was looking at me. "You did it huh. Good job!"

He ruffled my hair. 

"Why are we doing this?"

"It is due to peculiar traits the Senju have."

He stayed silent before continuing. "I am sure you already know of the higher chakra reserves and better vitality."

I nodded my head. 

"It is all because of the inherent Yang Release affinity all the Senju have." 

"I knew about that."

I commented. 

"Of course, you know but do you know what Yang Release's application is?"

I shook my head no.

"Yang Release has the ability to essentially give life." 

"What?"

He was making me confused. 

"The life I speak of is natural energy." 

"Natural energy huh."

"That was how Lord First used wood release. He gave 'life' to the woods and controlled the natural energy within it."

Okay. I was slowly getting the gist of it. 

"He was a natural born sage just like you."

Wait, What? I am a Sage?

"I am really confused right now."

"I don't mean as in you can using Senjutsu Chakra though it will be easier for you if you do practice it which I hope you will in the future."

"So...? What do you mean?"

"I mean you are a natural born sage due to your abilities to feel the natural energy and your ability to manipulate chakra when it starts to mix with the natural energy." 

"By your logic all sensor types must be 'natural born sage' then"

I stated the obvious. 

"No, of course not. Most sensors transmit their chakra in the area. It does not mix with the natural energy but you literally just 'sense' it. Heck you can even sense the intent of the person which not even I can sense it."

"What you are saying is going over my head."

"I will teach you in more detail when you get more experience. Since right now I am trying to make it as simple as possible for you to understand, It is a lot more complex than this."

"Sure, old man."

"Okay now let's resume your training."

I positioned myself to Lotus position. 

"Good."

Hiruzen commented. 

"Now. Close your eyes and let the world paint a thousand pictures."
