Chapter 24: Edited ~

It was at the end of the party as he bid everyone farewell, when Kushina grabbed his hand and led him back inside the house. As the door closed, she activated the privacy wards, immediately making Naruto go into alert mode.

"M-mom?" Naruto asked, "Is everything all right?"

Kushina gave him a reassuring smile. "Everything's just fine, son. I just have something for you that is best kept private."

She went off to fetch something in her room.

When she came back she had in hand a small brush and an ink bottle. "I have something for you as your gift, but it has to be drawn on you first."

"You mean like the lust seal?" Naruto asked, curious.

Kushina only gave him a knowing smirk and responded. "Yes but it is for something else entirely. Now, would you sit down on the coach, son?"

"Yes, mother," Naruto replied to which she smiled warmly.

"This will be a small seal that's going to be drawn on the area behind your ears, down to parts of your neck," Kushina explained.

"What's it for?" Naruto queried.

"Oh you'll find out," Kushina responded, smirking.

A few minutes later, Naruto was facing his mother, complaining playfully on how cold the ink was on his skin. Kushina had used a bit of medical ninjutsu to permanently etch the fuinjutsu to the pigments on his skin.

Once it was done, his mother brought him to the bathroom mirror, taking off his blindfold in the meantime. It was a small seal that was only noticeable up close.

He glanced at his reflection. "Huh…looks kind of nice on me."

Kushina only grinned at him. "Channel some chakra into it."

Naruto gave her an arched eyebrow but did as he was told. He sent a small pulse into each of the seals, his control over his chakra exponentially better than it was over a year ago after training with the Rinnegan.

Then Naruto's jaw dropped as he caught sight of his reflection. His purple tinted, black ringed eyes filled with tomoe began to recede, slowly but surely, Then after five seconds, what peered back at him were his original baby blues. "What?! H–how is this possible?! This is…this is insane!"

After learning fuinjutsu from Kushina for a year, he knew just how hard it was to create an original seal and condense it to a small form factor for efficiency. This…this didn't seem like a regular genjutsu seal as his eyes could determine a genjutsu from a glance…it was as if he had his eyes back physically.

Kushina only chuckled at his surprise. "It took me a year for a reason. I wouldn't have even completed it in time had Mikoto not allowed me to study the effects of Shisui's sharingan a few days ago. She even helped me a lot in that regard, so this gift counts as hers as well."

Naruto smiled at that. "Thank you, Mom, I can't explain how much this means to me…and I'll be sure to give Mikoto-sama her proper thanks as well next time when I see her."

Kushina had a foxy smile as if knowing something Naruto didn't.

So he asked her. "What is it?"

"Oh nothing, nothing," Kushina waved him off. Then she went on to explain the seal. "That thing is an illusory masterpiece if I say so myself. It's a physical genjutsu I replicated from the effects of the Izanagi. It also blocks a doujutsu's see-through abilities much like your blindfold but doesn't affect your own doujutsu abilities. However, it only lasts for three hours before the physical illusion burns up and takes a day to recharge. This was unfortunately the furthest I can stretch Izanagi's effects, so you'll still have to wear your blindfold most of the time."

Naruto shook his head. "Three hours is more than enough. I just want to look my friends in the eye again in public again…"

Naruto turned back to the mirror and gaped at himself. Even though he'd moved on, and the purple eyes had become a part of him more than it ever was on Sasuke, it still bothered him sometimes. They…they just simply weren't his original ones and it was something that reminded him of his friend's death over a year ago. Now…now he could look at himself in the mirror and see the person he had been for the first 17 years of his life. He could go outside occasionally without looking like a blind person…though he was already used to it nowadays. Now, he finally had the option to just be fully…himself once more.

"How did you get my eye colour down so perfectly?" Naruto asked.

"Oh I remembered how your one eye looked when you first got here. It's a shade lighter than Minato's and had a slight tinge of violet in them that was so…memorable."

He turned to his mother and crushed her in a hug. "This is so much better than what I got for you on your birthday, mom."

Kushina giggled, her hand involuntary going to the Uzumaki symbol necklace on her neck. "Nonsense, I love the necklace you got me and I'll cherish it until the day I die. You even had the old Higurashi to teach you how to make it yourself."

"I told you not to speak of death so casually in front of me, mother," Naruto scolded. "You will never die on my watch…especially after what you've learnt from me."

Kushina only smiled into his chest. Oh how her son towered over her now. He was tall, but not overtly so to make it hard for her to tiptoe and kiss his cheek.

An action in which she did now. "Since you're already here, go take a bath, son. I'll wash your back."

Naruto's hair stood on end. Ever since placing the lust seal on him, Kushina had never taken a bath with him again, stating that it was best to limit female contact, especially half-naked women, when he was undergoing his year of abstinence.

She was even more radiant than last year, if that was at all possible. Naruto thought that back then she was already at her healthiest, rebounding back from depression so quickly. Yet now…now she was truly a goddess of this world.

Ever since a year ago, they'd gotten so incredibly close to each other. They spent all the time they could together, whether it was from individual training to teaching and learning from each other.
